Politico: Parnell suspends Pennsylvania Senate campaign

Pennsylvania Republican Sean Parnell is suspending his campaign for Senate after losing a fight for custody of his children Monday to his estranged wife, who had accused him of abuse in court testimony.

Parnell had been endorsed in the race by former President Donald Trump and has been the frontrunner in the Republican primary. Parnell called Trump to inform him of the decision to suspend his campaign, according to a person told about the call.

Trump had recently expressed disappointment in how his endorsement of Parnell has panned out, including blaming his son Don Jr., a friend of Parnell’s who pushed for the endorsement. According to a person familiar with Trump’s frequent commentary on Parnell, he has been fixated on the situation — both upset at being tied to it, via his support for Parnell, and incredulous about what was going on with his preferred candidate.

But Trump didn’t rescind his support of Parnell earlier this month, despite Snell's allegations of abuse. The Trump team was planning to move forward with a January fundraiser scheduled for Parnell at Mar-a-Lago.

The Independent: Trump complained that son Barron wouldn’t say he loved him and compared him to unimpressed reporter

Veteran ABC News correspondent Jonathan Karl says that Donald Trump once compared him to his son Barron, whom he said would not say out loud that he loved his father.

Mr Karl told the bizarre anecdote in an appearance on CNN’s New Day to promote his book Betrayal: The Final Act of the Trump Show.

...The conversation occurred at the beginning of March 2020, when Mr Karl and Mr Miller were summoned to the Oval Office in the week before the US and much of the world shut down because of the rising tide of the coronavirus pandemic.

The pair were called in to discuss the dinner, which Mr Trump had skipped in previous years as president and famously been roasted at by former President Barack Obama in 2011.

Having been left alone waiting for the president while he was fetched by staff only added to the strangeness of the situation, he said.

Eventually, Mr Trump appeared and met with them for an hour to discuss whether or not he would attend the annual event.

It makes perfect sense, telling the media how brilliant he is always takes precedence over everything else. If nuclear war was breaking out he'd leave the bunker to hold a press conference bragging about how well he was handling it, better than any other president before him handled a nuclear war, even better than Lincoln.

In it, a freshly ratified, anthropomorphic amendment to the Constitution that makes it “legal for policemen to beat … those liberal freaks” is held atop the Capitol Hill steps.

“Doors open, boys,” the amendment calls as a horde of gun-shooting, bomb-throwing amendments holler and run up the steps.

Mr. Vance’s prosecutors have issued new subpoenas for records about Mr. Trump’s hotels, golf clubs and office buildings. 

 

They recently interviewed a banker employed by Deutsche Bank, Mr. Trump’s top lender. ...

 

The prosecutors are zeroing in on whether Mr. Trump or his company inflated the value of some of his properties while trying to secure financing from potential lenders. 

 

If Mr. Vance’s office concludes that Mr. Trump intentionally submitted false values to potential lenders, prosecutors could argue that he engaged in a pattern of fraud. ...

 

Mr. Vance, who did not seek re-election for a fourth term this year, originally signaled that he wanted to decide whether to charge Mr. Trump before departing.

Random comment, based on both his name and his job I always expected Cyrus Vance to look something like Steve Ballmer, chair-throwing optional. Just googled him and he looks like some school friend's dad when you were a kid. Completely not what I was expecting.

Donald Trump has challenged leading editors and politicians to debate him in public over his lie that Joe Biden beat him in 2020 through electoral fraud.

 

In a typically rambling statement on Sunday, the former president complained about “the heads of the various papers [and] far left politicians” and said: “If anyone would like a public debate on the facts, not the fiction, please let me know. It will be a ratings bonanza for television!”

 

Despite Trump’s insistence that “the 2020 election was rigged and stolen” – and his well-known fixation on TV ratings – it was not.

 

Even William Barr, an attorney general widely seen as willing to run interference for Trump, publicly stated there was no evidence of widespread electoral fraud. ...

 

It seems unlikely any senior figure in the US media or among Democrats in Congress or state governments will take up Trump’s challenge to debate him in public. ...

The problem is the death threats and other nonsense that would follow from his rabid fans if anybody dares to question/challenge Dear Orange Leader on anything he says or does.
