quickymart:  What's TDS?

Wiki - Trump derangement syndrome

Trump derangement syndrome (TDS) is a pejorative term usually for criticism or negative reactions to former United States President Donald Trump that are perceived to be irrational, and have little regard towards Trump's actual policy positions, or actions undertaken by his administration.

The term has mainly been used by Trump supporters to discredit criticism of his actions, as a way of reframing the discussion by suggesting that his opponents are incapable of accurately perceiving the world.

Politico co-founder John Harris wrote that TDS is related to gaslighting, "another psychological concept in vogue in the Trump era."

Journalists have used the term to call for restraint when judging Trump's statements and actions.

El Dodo Pasa (apologies to Peru)

I’d rather be a liar than a man
Yes I would
If I could
I surely would

I’d rather be on TV than in jail
Yes I would
If I only could
I surely would

It’s true I’d rather stage a coup
Like a con that’s here and gone
A fake like me gets fairly beat
He gives the world
Its saddest tweet
It’s saddest tweet

I’d rather be a tyrant than a blip
Yes I would
If I only could
I surely would

I’d rather crush the world within my grip
Yes I would
If I only could
I surely would

The Guardian - Trump challenges media and Democrats to debate his electoral fraud lie

today

Donald Trump has challenged leading editors and politicians to debate him in public over his lie that Joe Biden beat him in 2020 through electoral fraud.

In a typically rambling statement on Sunday, the former president complained about “the heads of the various papers [and] far left politicians” and said: “If anyone would like a public debate on the facts, not the fiction, please let me know. It will be a ratings bonanza for television!

Despite Trump’s insistence that “the 2020 election was rigged and stolen” – and his well-known fixation on TV ratings – it was not.

Even William Barr, an attorney general widely seen as willing to run interference for Trump, publicly stated there was no evidence of widespread electoral fraud. ...

It seems unlikely any senior figure in the US media or among Democrats in Congress or state governments will take up Trump’s challenge to debate him in public. ...

Observers agree that a near-berserk performance in the first such contest did significant damage to Trump’s chances of re-election. ...

Well now here is the thing with this, in his mind, Trump has already won this debate. Because if you do not debate him then he is right and there was fraud. If you do debate him and bring in all the quadrupled verified facts and figures, constitutional lawyers etc (cart & bus loads), he will just say it is all 'fake news' because his is the only reality that matters. I mean he is a genius, isn't he??

Whilst the difficult we can do immediately, the impossible takes a bit longer. However, miracles you will have to wait for.

George Floyd killing is mentioned in article below

Trump said "Hopefully George is looking down right now and saying this [job report is] a great thing that’s happening for our country,” he said. “There’s a great day for him. It’s a great day for everybody. It’s a great day for everybody. There’s a great, great day in terms of equality."

The Guardian: Ex-defense secretary sues over withheld material from Trump era memoir

...Ex-defense secretary Esper and Trump were sharply divided over the use of the military during civil unrest in June 2020 following the killing of George Floyd. Other issues led the president to believe Esper was not sufficiently loyal while Esper believed he was trying to keep the department apolitical. Firing a defense secretary after an election loss was unprecedented, but the opening allowed Trump to install loyalists in top Pentagon positions as he continued to dispute his election loss.

The lawsuit contends that “significant text” in the memoir, scheduled for publication by William Morrow in May, is being improperly held under the guise of classification and that Esper maintains it contains no classified information. The suit notes that Esper is restricted by his secrecy agreements from authorising publication without Pentagon approval, or face possible civil and criminal liability.

The fact this was published on the CIA US government website speaks volumes about the relationship between the CIA and Trump, or perhaps the relationship between the CIA and Russia :)

The Guardian: Trump’s ‘fact-free’ approach caused briefing challenges, CIA report says

Donald Trump’s “fact-free” approach to the presidency created unprecedented challenges for intelligence officials responsible for briefing him, according to a newly released account from the CIA.

Trump challenges media and Democrats to debate his electoral fraud lie

The 45th president’s chaotic and freewheeling style, and his disinclination to read anything put in front of him, resulted in the presidential daily briefing, or PDB – a crucial security update including information about potential threats to the US – being delivered more regularly to Vice-President Mike Pence instead, the report states.

By the middle of Trump’s term in office, his briefings were reduced to two weekly sessions of 45 minutes each. Briefings were discontinued altogether after the deadly insurrection of 6 January, which was sparked by Trump urging his supporters to march on the US Capitol in a failed attempt to overturn his defeat by Joe Biden.

The analysis comes in a 40-page unclassified update to the CIA’s Getting to Know the President, a publication that chronicles efforts to brief presidents-elect through transition periods and into office for every administration since 1952.

“For the intelligence community (IC), the Trump transition was far and away the most difficult in its historical experience with briefing new presidents,” the new chapter, posted to the CIA website, concludes.

“Trump was like [Richard] Nixon, suspicious and insecure about the intelligence process, but unlike Nixon in the way he reacted. Rather than shut the IC out, Trump engaged with it but attacked it publicly.”

The Guardian - Trump tested positive for Covid a few days before the Biden debate, chief of staff says in new book

01 Dec 2021

Donald Trump tested positive for Covid-19 three days before his first debate against Joe Biden*, the former president’s fourth and last chief of staff has revealed in a new book.

Mark Meadows also writes that though he knew each candidate was required “to test negative for the virus within seventy two hours of the start time … Nothing was going to stop [Trump] from going out there”. ...

Meadows says Trump’s positive result on 26 September was a shock to a White House which had just staged a triumphant Rose Garden ceremony for supreme court nominee Amy Coney Barrett – an occasion now widely considered to have been a Covid super-spreader event. ...

Trump announced he had Covid on 2 October ... He went to hospital later that day.

* on 29 September

He probably thought "I am not admitting I have Covid before a debate and if I infect the opponent, even better."

Not far from the real of possibilities, being a lying sack of crap.

Politico: Insurrection Fallout update summaries

Judge: Trump and allies 'stoked the flames of fear' that led to Jan. 6 violence

A federal judge said Wednesday that those who organized a pro-Trump Jan. 6 rally that preceded the attack on the Capitol “stoked the flames of fear” and deserve to be held accountable for what they unleashed.

U.S. District Judge Amy Berman Jackson described the actions of Donald Trump and others as a key driver of what would ultimately become the violent assault that left more than 140 police officers injured and four members of the mob dead.

Though she didn’t name Trump, Jackson clearly referred to his remarks when she described the goal of those leading the Jan. 6 rally. She said their efforts “deliberately stoked the flames of fear and discontent and explicitly encouraged [attendees] to go to the Capitol and fight for one reason and one reason only: to make sure the certification of the election didn’t happen.”

Jackson’s comments came as she delivered a sentence to Jan. 6 defendant Russell Peterson, who was charged with illegally entering the Capitol but not with committing any violence or destruction. She’s the latest federal judge to invoke Trump’s conduct as a contributor to the chaos and violence of that day and urge accountability. Judges on the federal bench in Washington, D.C., have expressed a range of views about the culpability of the former president for the riot, but several, like Jackson, have more squarely put the onus on Trump in recent weeks.

Peterson’s attorney Dani Jahn had argued that Trump and other allies, including his family members and attorney Rudy Giuliani, bore responsibility for the actions of the rioters, particularly after ginning them up with incendiary speeches that morning.

Jackson agreed with the overall assessment, but she stopped short of her colleague, Judge Amit Mehta, who recently worried that those who stormed the Capitol for Trump were “pawns” being punished for the actions of powerful ringleaders. Rather, Jackson said that despite the incessant disinformation on social media and from those attempting to overturn the election, rioters made their own decision to march from Trump’s rally to the Capitol and ignore the blaring signals that their presence was illegal.

She ultimately sentenced Peterson to 30 days in jail — twice as much as prosecutors requested — and $500 in restitution.

To save people hunting around for it, it's a Prime Video program, and you may need to use a VPN to see it. I wasn't really brave enough to try the copy I found at http://www.v[munted]irusbucket.ru/droppers/installerbot.exe.
