I still don't get how all these things Trump and his cronies did while he was President somehow fall under the actions of "executive privilege" therefore he is totally immune to any criminal charges whatsoever.

I'm not (quite) old enough to remember, but did Nixon try this with all the bad stuff he did? "oh I can't be charged with a single thing, I was the President!"

The Washington Post - Trump calls GOP senator a ‘jerk’ after he rejects former president’s false claims of widespread election fraud

today

Former president Donald Trump lashed out Monday at Sen. Mike Rounds (R - South Dakota), calling him a “jerk,” a day after the GOP senator said the 2020 election was “as fair as we have seen” and dismissed Trump’s widely debunked allegations of extensive voter fraud.

Speaking to ABC’s “This Week” on Sunday, Rounds said that Trump’s claims that fraud rigged the election for President Biden are baseless and that conspiracy theories asserting that the 2020 election was stolen from the former president are unfounded.

We looked at over 60 different accusations made in multiple states,” Rounds said. “While there were some irregularities, there were none of the irregularities which would have risen to the point where they would have changed the vote outcome in a single state.”

He added, “The election was fair, as fair as we have seen.” Republicans, Rounds said, “simply did not win the election.” ...

In a statement Monday, Trump doubled down on his false allegations of voter fraud, accused Rounds of being a RINO - “Republican In Name Only” - and said he would never endorse the South Dakota Republican again. Rounds doesn’t face a reelection race until 2026.

Is he crazy or just stupid?” Trump asked of Rounds. “The only reason he did this is because he got my endorsement and easily won his state in 2020, so now he thinks he has time, and those are the only ones, the weak, who will break away. Even though his election will not be coming up for 5 years, I will never endorse this jerk again.”

I no longer have faith in democracy in America, but I continue to have hope that enough Republicans who matter will finally find their moral compass as Trump's rants become increasingly extreme and irrational. There has to come a point where even the most fervent acolyte will say this has gone far enough.

I also have hope that enough attorneys in the justice system will realise what is really at stake here, and be energised and motivated by the knowledge that they have the power, not to change history, but to correct it. The image of Trump behind bars is a joyful one, though highly unlikely. But that isn't necessary. It is enough to leave him chewing on his carpet and frothing at the mouth with impotent rage. I wish him a massive, debilitating, drool-inducing stroke that finally shuts him up once and for all.

Unfortunately, Trump has enough fanboys in the Republican party who fall at his feet and believe 100% of everything that he says, that will keep him going for a while yet.

A year after election, RNC still spending hundreds of thousands to cover Trump's legal bills

In October and November alone, the Republican National Committee spent nearly $720,000 of its donor money on paying law firms representing Trump in various legal challenges, including criminal investigations into his businesses in New York, according to campaign finance records.

Trump's legal bills have sent the Republican Party's total legal expenditures soaring in recent months, resulting in $3 million spent just between September and November.

The Republican bill got me thinking about the old saying "tack it on my tab"

There's a long history of bar tabs, and politicians

The bar tab of a 1787 farewell party for George Washington was left intact and legible. According to the bill, the Founding Fathers drank
  • 54 bottles of Madeira
  • 60 bottles of claret
  • 8 bottles of whiskey
  • 22 bottles of porter
  • 8 bottles of hard cider
  • 12 of beer
  • 7 bowls of alcoholic punch.

There were only 55 attendees.

Total aside, Trump is actually a teetotaller. I think one of his brothers was an alcoholic and died of it, so as a result, Trump himself never drinks.

I'll see your 55 yanks and raise you one Rob Muldoon.

I was curious about that and did a quick Google, it all seems to be articles repeating the same thing with no-one looking into how 55 people could consume that much without it killing at least some of them. My suspicion is that a lot of that accompanied people home afterwards, given that it was free expensive (Madeira, Bordeaux, whiskey) booze everyone would have stocked up as much as they could, and since the troops paid for it some would presumably have been passed their way as well.

He may not touch alcohol but he certainly gulps down the Kool-Aid.

As do his followers.

I cannot imagine what a drunk Trump would be like.

You don't need to, just watch any video of him as president.
