Not even 1,000 votes in it now. Am I right in saying a margin this close triggers an automatic recount?

It's a primary, not an election. It decides which Republican runs (same for the Democrats).

Each party decides which candidates that want to front. There is no laws about how a party selects their candidates, I believe.

If they wanted to use a magic eight ball, they could.

I think in close primary races, the person with the largest bag of money wins :)

In USA primaries are governed by all kind of laws varying state by state as most things do. One of the main motivators for these laws was numerous blackadder type shenanigans in the early days. Here's just a sample of the variations:

This was particularly bad with Hillary (it may still be the case now, I just heard about it a lot when Hillary was arranging to become president), a majority of Democrats would vote for their preferred candidate and they'd get Hillary's candidate instead.

Edited to add: For comparison I've been told the process in NZ is "With Labour/National they have an electorate organisation. They in turn create a selection board. The Selection Board has members picked by the local organisation and some from the central party. Usually Labour will have a majority for the central party and National has a majority picked locally. They will open up the selection, people apply, various interviews etc and one gets picked".

It looks like it will be close enough to trigger a recount, apparently due to the margin being so small: https://deadline.com/2022/05/dr-oz-senate-race-pennsylvania-vote-tally-1235026710/

Of course he lost. No matter what Trump might think or feel, he lost the election. Now even his longtime adviser (the "alternate facts" one) is saying the same thing.

The Washington Post - Georgia Gov. Kemp wins nomination despite Trump’s crusade against him

breaking

Today, Georgia Gov. Brian Kemp won the GOP primary, handily defeating former senator David Perdue (R) who was recruited and backed by former president Donald Trump, still furious over Kemp’s unwillingness to overturn Joe Biden’s 2020 victory in the state.

Kemp faces a November rematch against Stacey Abrams (D), whom he edged out in 2018.  ...

Also in Georgia, Trump is backing Rep. Jody Hice (R) in a bid to knock off Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger (R), who stood up to Trump’s false election claims in 2020. ...

EDIT   The BBC version:  Georgia primaries: Trump-backed Perdue trounced by Pence's chosen

"Mr Perdue was so far behind that he was defeated before half the votes were in."

Tiny steps ...  🙂

Citizens For Ethics: The Secret Service spent nearly $2 million at Trump properties

The Secret Service has spent nearly $2 million of taxpayer money at Trump properties, literally paying Donald Trump for the right to protect him and his family, according to government records obtained and analyzed by CREW. Newly acquired records show roughly $1.75 million being paid to Trump’s businesses; however, these records appear to be incomplete. Previously published records, by CREW and others, which do not appear to be included in the documents, account for thousands more in Secret Service spending at Trump properties, bringing the likely grand total closer to $2 million.

One of the biggest sources of expenses was Mar-a-Lago, the so-called Winter White House. The documents, obtained by CREW through the Freedom of Information Act, show the Secret Service paying Trump’s private club more than $300,000 to protect him and his family there. Over his presidency, Trump made an astounding 146 visits to the Palm Beach club, which makes sense in the context of his inability to bill the government when he was staying at the actual White House. The records do not show any spending at Mar-a-Lago until 2018, despite the fact Trump visited that property many times the year before, and those visits are known to have resulted in tens of thousands of dollars of Secret Service spending.

/Politizoom: MyPillow Mike Lindell Has Lost It. He’s Daring People To Sue Him On Fake Website That May Have Been Bought By Enemies

...Lindell has turned a corner. He was sanctioned by a judge and he’s going to have to pay Smartmatic some money back. A figure was not mentioned in the article. When I see it, I’ll share it.

Things are looking up!   🙂

The NY Times -
Primary Elections Live Updates:

breaking

Donald J. Trump barreled into Georgia vowing to marshal voters against his enemies and punish Republicans who crossed him in 2020.

Instead, Georgia voters punished him for meddling in their state.

Mr. Trump picked losers up and down the ballot, most strikingly missing the mark on a third governor’s race in three weeks.

The dismal record, particularly for chief executives, illustrates the shortcomings of Mr. Trump’s revenge tour.

Tuesday was a booming repudiation of former President Donald J. Trump’s relentless preoccupation with the 2020 election.

In Georgia, his voter-fraud-focused choices for governor and attorney general were roundly defeated, while his pick for secretary of state lost to a man who stood up to those false claims two years ago.

In the Republican primary for Georgia secretary of state, Brad Raffensperger won an outright victory over Representative Jody Hice, whose wholesale embrace of Mr. Trump’s conspiracy-mongering about the 2020 election was not enough to force a runoff.

The NY Times - Trump Said to Have Reacted Approvingly to Jan. 6 Chants About Hanging Pence

today

Shortly after hundreds of rioters at the Capitol started chanting “Hang Mike Pence!” on Jan. 6, 2021, the White House chief of staff, Mark Meadows, told colleagues that President Donald J. Trump was complaining that the vice president was being whisked to safety.

Mr. Meadows, according to an account provided to the House committee investigating Jan. 6, then told his colleagues that Mr. Trump had said something to the effect that maybe Mr. Pence should be hanged.

It is not clear what tone Mr. Trump was said to have used.

But the reported remark was further evidence of how extreme the rupture between the president and his vice president had become, and of how Mr. Trump not only failed to take action to call off the rioters, but appeared to identify with their sentiments about Mr. Pence ...

from the CNN article above:

  • Kemp is currently leading former Sen. David Perdue by 52 - not a typo - points in the gubernatorial primary.

  • Raffensperger is ahead of Rep. Jody Hice 52% to 33% in the secretary of state primary, avoiding an expected June runoff.

  • And in Georgia's Republican primary for attorney general, the Trump-endorsed candidate lost with just 26% of the vote.
