kingdragonfly: The Republican lawmaker said in a statement: “Let’s move on and celebrate the independence of this nation,” reported The Daily Beast.
He then went on to say "What could be more American than celebrating the nation's birthday with a mass shooting?".
Updated to add: There were actually 13 mass shootings on the Independence Day weekend, not just that one.
The Washington Post - Opinion - Trump has every reason to panic about Cipollone testifying
07 July 2022
Former White House counsel Pat Cipollone has been the missing man at the hearings for the House select committee investigating the Jan. 6 insurrection.
Although present at the most critical moments in the coup attempt, until now he has refused to testify formally.
That now will change with his agreement to give a videotaped, transcribed interview.
While not under oath, lying to Congress is still a crime, so he has every reason to stick to the truth. ...
Cipollone has no attorney client privilege with Trump, since his client was the U.S. government (a concept Trump never could grasp).

Oh things could get quite interesting now.
Of course Trump thinks he did absolutely nothing wrong calling Brad in Georgia asking him to find more votes. Oh no. It was the officials who were corrupt. Not him. Not at all 🙄
Republicans in America could learn a thing or two from the UK Conservative Party!
Love it 😋
Seriously, though. I've always wondered if Johnson would have been elected if it hadn't been for Trump's apparent successes. Like, "Well, if he can lie, cheat and steal his way into the top job, why not me?"
EDIT PS: Wow, a modern day parody of the Wizard of Oz would go well. Let's see...a Cowardly Eagle? A Plastic Man? Who could be Dorothy? LOL, the permutations are endless!
'Those who can make you believe absurdities can make you commit atrocities.' Voltaire
'A patriot must always be ready to defend his country against his government.' Edward Abbey
It's a bit disingenuous to compare Trump to Johnson.
Johnson was an MP before he became a pretty popularly elected Mayor of London. He then returned as an MP before hanging his hat on Brexit as a way of reaching the top job. Trump was never a politician.
And I don't believe Johnson cheated or stole his way to the top job. Lied yes but then don't all politicians have a tenuous relationship with the truth.
SJB: It's a bit disingenuous to compare Trump to Johnson. ...
Boris and Donald are both textbook Narcissists.
Both had "privileged" backgrounds.
Boris is smarter and went to a better school.

An interesting look (from an upcoming book) at why Lindsey Graham and Kevin McCarthy keep hanging on to Trumpism for dear life.
Brilliant article.
Trump said and did obviously awful and dangerous things—racist and cruel and achingly dumb and downright evil things. But on top of that, he is a uniquely tiresome individual, easily the sorest loser, the most prodigious liar, and the most interminable victim ever to occupy the White House. He is, quite possibly, the biggest crybaby ever to toddle across history’s stage, from his inaugural-crowd hemorrhage on day one right down to his bitter, ketchup-flinging end. Seriously, what public figure in the history of the world comes close? I’m genuinely asking.
Bottom line, Trump is an extremely tedious dude to have had in our face for seven years and running. My former New York Times colleague David Brooks wrote it best: “We’ve got this perverse situation in which the vast analytic powers of the entire world are being spent trying to understand a guy whose thoughts are often just six fireflies beeping randomly in a jar.”

I'm looking forward to the book coming out too 👍

The Washington Post - Trump considers waiving claim of executive privilege for Steve Bannon
08 July 2022
Former President Donald Trump is considering sending a letter to Stephen K. Bannon saying that he is waiving his claim of executive privilege, potentially clearing the way for his former chief strategist to testify before the House select committee investigating the pro-Trump riot at the Capitol.
The letter would reiterate that Trump invoked executive privilege in September 2021, when Bannon was first subpoenaed by the House committee.
But it would say that the former president is now willing to give up that claim - the validity of which has been disputed - if Bannon can reach an agreement on the terms of an appearance before the panel. ...
Bannon was charged with contempt of Congress in November 2021 for refusing to comply with the subpoena. A trial on those charges is scheduled to begin July 18 ...
Note the key word: "considering". Meanwhile, more time is being wasted (deliberately?). Watch this space.
