The NY Times - Trump Lawyer Told Justice Dept. That Classified Material Had Been Returned

breaking!

At least one lawyer for former President Donald J. Trump signed a written statement in June asserting that all material marked as classified and held in boxes in a storage area at Mr. Trump’s Mar-a-Lago residence and club had been returned to the government ...

The written declaration was made after a visit on June 3 to Mar-a-Lago by Jay I. Bratt, the top counterintelligence official in the Justice Department’s national security division.

The existence of the signed declaration, which has not previously been reported, is a possible indication that Mr. Trump or his team were not fully forthcoming with federal investigators about the material.

And it could help explain why a potential violation of a criminal statute related to obstruction was cited by the department as one basis for seeking the warrant used to carry out the daylong search of the former president’s home on Monday, an extraordinary step that generated political shock waves. ...

"not fully forthcoming" = understatement of the year  😉

In addition to obstruction charges several outlets are reporting possible charges under the Espionage Act with a max penalty of 10 years - per document.

Oh dear. But will he ever be charged though? And if found guilty would he actually end up going to prison? Because that would be very well-deserved, albeit long overdue.

From Mexican drug cartels and members of Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) want a little controlled fear and chaos.

However when there's too much anarchy, it affects the ability to make money and unchecked may even cause the groups collapse.

So I'm not surprised traditional Republicans are nervous over "defund the FBI" and attack against the DOJ

Here's tshirts for sale on Georgia Republican representative Marjorie Taylor Greene storefront

Axios: Marjorie Taylor Greene drafts articles of impeachment against attorney general Merrick Garland

...Greene's impeachment articles are another Republican response to the FBI's search of Mar-a-Lago, Axios' Andrew Solender writes.

Republican lawmakers and allies have largely thrown criticism at the Department of Justice and the FBI in response to the situation.

Greene, for example, called to "defund the FBI."

The New York Times reports Trump allies have asked Republicans to tone down their attacks "because it is possible that more damaging information related to the search will become public."

In a "Alex Jones" type move, Fox has guaranteed future search warrants approvals against Trump.

Fox Getting MASSIVE Fallout For Broadcasting This Photoshopped Image As A Joke

Fox News aired a photoshopped image of the judge handling Trump's raid with convicted sex trafficker Ghislaine Maxwell. They tried to say later that they were joking.

Oh but if someone did the same thing to Trump, holy Christ, the world would never hear the end of it from Fox and Fiends 🙄

Unfortunately for Trump, all the images of him with Jeffrey Epstein are actually genuine.

My favourite was a photo with Epstein/Maxwell and Trump/Melania.

From the photo Maxwell obviously idolised Epstein. Trump made Melania's skin crawl.

https://www.vox.com/policy-and-politics/2022/8/12/23302835/trump-fbi-mar-a-lago-search-warrant <<< a good, long read that walks through how he usually plays things whenever anything bad befalls him. I suspect we're going to see this playbook used a lot in the runup to the 2024 election.

Definitely worth the read:

"(Trump) is, as the political scientist Julia Azari puts it, a nationalist who has no concept of a nation;

a narcissist who abuses the language of patriotism without any commitment to the underlying idea

that he has some responsibility to preserve order and cohesion in the polity. In fact, he does the

opposite — sowing division and stoking violent distrust if it helps him."

The world is in big trouble and I feel great sorrow for the young people who will have to deal with it.

What possible use could documents about nuclear weapons be to Trump after he left office?

Umm his BFF Putin .. you know ... that dodgy guy that lives in a bunker ... might want to know

I'm more curious how did the FBI know Trump took secret documents ...

Did the secret agents tell on him?

They must have been spying on him !

If you read the reports posted here and elsewhere, you would know how silly that sounds.

Batman: I've decided that it's the secret agents who told on him

I (hope) you're joking about who told on them. I'm sure top secret documents have at least the same level of security as a public library; you know who has checked it out, and who hasn't returned them.

I'd guess any staff working at Mar-a-largo would also have gotten sick of unclogging toilet clogged with Trump's hand-written notes.

The FBI said it was someone close, so that rules out Melania.
