The NY Times - Liz Cheney Is Defeated by Trump-Backed Harriet Hageman in Wyoming

16 August 2022

Ms. Hageman, a lawyer in Cheyenne with little political following before she was lifted by Mr. Trump’s endorsement, trounced Ms. Cheney, the daughter of a former vice president, by more than 30 percentage points, with more than 90 percent of the vote counted.

Ms. Cheney’s loss was as anticipated as it was consequential. ...

The repudiation of Ms. Cheney made clear Republican primary voters’ appetite for retribution against officeholders who openly and aggressively confront Mr. Trump, even as the former president remains embroiled in multiple investigations. ...

Her loss represents the full and perhaps final transition of the G.O.P. from the traditional conservatism of the Bush-Cheney era to the grievance-oriented populism of Mr. Trump.

Captain Kool-Aid strikes again.

EDIT

The Washington Post - The 5-Minute Fix: Will Liz Cheney run for president?

today

Running for president is a distinct possibility, says Rep. Liz Cheney. “It is something I’m thinking about, and I’ll make a decision in the coming months”.

If she took that leap, Cheney wouldn’t be expecting to win. ...

Cheney and her crowd want a candidate who would serve merely as a political kamikaze, blowing up his or her candidacy but also taking down Trump.

To Cheney, that means keeping Trump out of the White House - and trying to steer the Republican Party back toward more democratic values.

She knows it may be a futile cause, but it’s one she may feel she has to take on, if only for the history books.

quickymart: I bet he is! Good luck to any lawyer who decides to represent him - also, don't expect to get paid for any work you do for him. Ever.

Love it! The orange content needs to be doubled, otherwise it's most excellently appropriate.

EDIT: I especially admire the bravery of the blue character, who risked being showered with semi-digested hamberders.

Trump crowned? No faux King way!

As anticipated ...

The NY Times -
Allen Weisselberg, a Top Trump Executive, Pleads Guilty in Tax Scheme

18 August 2022

One of Donald J. Trump’s most trusted executives pleaded guilty on Thursday to conspiring with Mr. Trump’s company to carry out a long-running tax scheme, an admission that painted a damning picture of the former president’s family business ...

As part of the plea deal with the Manhattan district attorney’s office, the executive, Allen H. Weisselberg, is required to testify at the company’s trial if prosecutors choose to call on him, and to admit his role in conspiring with Mr. Trump’s company to carry out the tax scheme.

That testimony could tilt the scales against the company, the Trump Organization, as it prepares for an October trial related to the same accusations. ...

Under the terms of the plea deal, if Mr. Weisselberg testifies truthfully at the upcoming trial, he will receive a five-month sentence and likely serve as little as 100 days with time credited for good behavior.

Mr. Weisselberg, who was facing up to 15 years in prison, must also pay nearly $2 million in taxes, penalties and interest after accepting lavish tax-free perks ...

This is good news. Weisselberg knows more about Trump's businesses that Trump does.   😏

Trump can always claim he didn't know what the people on his company were doing. Lies, lies and statistics.

Or better still, "I barely know him", despite Weisselberg working for him for decades. He might not try that one on though.

A narcissistic injury is the worst thing you can inflict on someone with Narcissistic Personality Disorder. One of Trump's ideological predecessors famously had people who had done this to him hung from wire ropes attached to meat hooks in Plötzensee prison.

Stuff: New Zealand city Wellington mayoral hopeful claimed Covid vaccine dangerous, backed Trump rioters

New Zealand city Wellington mayoral candidate Barbara McKenzie has claimed children cannot spread Covid-19 and that the Covid vaccination is “very unsafe” – and has spoken out in favour of the occupation of Parliament grounds.

McKenzie, one of nine running for the capital’s top job, is also a critic of Significant Natural Area regulations, which enable councils to protect areas with indigenous biodiversity.

But her online footprint shows she has called for Covid vaccinations to be stopped and has defended the Trump-inspired rioters who stormed the US Capitol building on January 6 last year.

I seriously don't know who to hate most, Trump or Putin.

I fear for democracy.
