https://sports.yahoo.com/desantis-tells-allies-stay-mum-012548713.html (dunno why this would be in the Sports section, but anyway...) Ron is playing his cards quite close to his chest re 2024.

Also: https://www.yahoo.com/entertainment/trump-team-ramping-security-doesn-154546379.html << that's probably a good idea, given that "security" around Trump was quite obviously non-existent previously.

I have no hesitation in thinking that Trump will burn everything down if he doesn't get his way.

The NY Times - Appeals Court Scraps Special Master Review in Trump Documents Case

breaking !

A federal appeals court on Thursday removed a major obstacle to the Justice Department’s investigation into former President Donald J. Trump’s handling of sensitive government documents by ending an outside review of the records.

In a strongly worded ruling, the three-member panel of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 11th Circuit shut down an independent review of thousands of documents seized this summer from Mr. Trump’s private club and residence in Florida. ...

The unanimous but unsigned 21-page ruling was sharply critical of Judge Aileen M. Cannon’s decision in September to intervene in the case, saying she never had jurisdiction to do so. ...

For more than two months, the review had hindered the criminal inquiry into Mr. Trump’s handling of more than 11,000 documents and photographs - some of them highly classified - that were hauled away from Mar-a-Lago by the F.B.I. in August.

Sensational.

For my money (pardon the pun), I reckon that Trump gave that judge of his a little extra cash to make the court case go his way.

The NY Times - Trump Embraces Extremism as He Seeks to Reclaim Office

01 Dec 2022

WASHINGTON - Former President Donald J. Trump once again made clear on Thursday night exactly where he stands in the conflict between the American justice system and the mob that ransacked the Capitol to stop the peaceful transfer of power nearly two years ago.

He stands with the mob.

Mr. Trump sent a video statement of support to a fund-raiser hosted by a group calling itself the Patriot Freedom Project on behalf of families of those charged with attacking the Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021.

People have been treated unconstitutionally, in my opinion, and very, very unfairly, and we’re going to get to the bottom of it,” he said.

The country, he warned, “is going communist.”  ...

After "The country is going communistโ€ he added Hessians infiltrated the ranks by dressing as trusted Confederate veterans.

Trump's probably-not-such-a-favourite-anymore judge gets a (fairly negative) write-up in Slate.

Edit: also: HA HA, "Trump in a dress" candidate Kari Lake loses her election. Great news indeed: https://apnews.com/article/2022-midterm-elections-arizona-phoenix-government-and-politics-938a920c848d28ca23435a6d2cb61f98

Kanye West has completely gone off the rails the last few years. I used to think that - while strange or odd - he was a reasonably talented musician. Now I have no idea what the hell he's trying to do with his career - I don't really think he does either. I think he's just at the point where he's saying any random crap to get attention (a la Trump) and if it provokes a reaction he carries on with it.

Jewish conspiracy stuff is something West returns to over and over. There's no other way to look at it. He's in the nutjob anti-semite bag with Fuentes and the rest of the nutjobs.

What a pity Lake and Finchem aren't both being held personally liable, just their lawyers.

I figure if these election-denying liars are hit where it hurts most (in their pockets) maybe sooner or later they'll learn to shut their big, loud election-denying mouths for once.

While idly watching US political news today, I had a very naughty thought. It is well-known that Kevin McCarthy, a politician with no integrity whatsoever,  desperately wants to be Speaker of the House and will do anything to achieve that. Because he gladly leans whichever way the wind blows, some representatives in his own party do not want him anywhere near the Speaker’s gavel. Maybe enough to deny him the 218 votes he needs.

So what if the Democrats did a clever end run and agreed to support McCarthy in exchange for certain major concessions? He only needs a majority of representatives, not necessarily a republican majority. Since he has no integrity, he shouldn’t have a problem abandoning his principles again in exchange for the baubles of office.
