I'm not surprised, I would have snubbed them too, although I have slightly more tolerance for McConnell than McCarthy - the former did actually recognise Joe as the President-elect, and hasn't spoken to Trump since the election. Seeing him transform his hand into a wave when he realised no one was going to shake it was quite funny.

McCarthy on the other hand is a cowardly ass-kisser, who almost fell over himself to race back to Maralago in order to get back into Trump's good graces. See also: Lindsey Graham.

I certainly would like to do something with his ring, but it wouldn't be kissing.

neb: This is as much one for the Whiskey Tango Foxtrot thread as here, but: Georgia Senate Runoff Hits Final Stretch With GOP Looking for Turnout... How unelectable does someone actually have to be for Republicans not to vote for them?

Politizoom: Herschel Walkers “I Rented a Kid” Flex May Not Help Him Tomorrow

Although wearing a Tee-shirt with Muhammad Ali‘s slave name emblazoned on it might help Walker hold onto his MAGA base voters, it will only hurt him with the voters he really needs tomorrow
...
Case in point was Saturday’s weird pronouncement by Herschel that although he has fathered more than several children with multiple women, not a single one of them is available when he wants to go to his local Metroplex and watch a kid’s movie… so rather than embarrass himself (!) by going alone – he rented a child from his neighbor.

The NY Times - Warnock Defeats Walker in Georgia’s Senate Runoff

breaking !

ATLANTA - Senator Raphael Warnock defeated his Republican challenger, Herschel Walker, in a runoff election on Tuesday that capped a grueling and costly campaign, secured a 51-seat Democratic majority and gave the first Black senator from Georgia a full six-year term.

Mr. Warnock’s victory, called by The Associated Press, ended a marathon midterm election cycle in which Democrats defied history, as they limited the loss of House seats that typically greets the party that holds the White House and now gain a seat in the Senate. ...

Warnock’s margin of victory comes from the heavily Black, Democratic areas around Metro Atlanta.

YAY! And Herschel conceded. At least he didn't bang on with the stupid "election fraud" line like most of the MAGA world clings onto.

Yay for the outcome but still deeply disturbing that very nearly half of voters chose the lying, hypocritical, incompetent, dishonest, two-faced scumbag. There is still something seriously wrong here.

Couldn't have said it better. A single vote is not NEARLY enough.

I would add, though, what party would think putting a bloody lunatic up as a candidate was OK? You have to despair for America.

Walker's failings should be blindingly obvious to the most casual observer - he advertises his corruption and incompetence every time he opens his mouth.

EDIT: Even his own son is critical of him :

The NY Times - Christian Walker lashed out at his father, and the G.O.P., after the Senate race was called.

Christian Walker, the estranged son of Herschel Walker, unleashed a string of fiery tweets late Tuesday after his father, a Republican, was defeated in Georgia’s Senate race.

He lashed out at both his father and Republican leadership, accusing them of betraying him and the party.

A right-wing influencer with half a million followers on Instagram and another 250,000 on TikTok, Mr. Walker called his father a “backstabber” and claimed the Republican Party cynically made him their candidate mainly “because he was the same skin color as his opponent.”

He also wrote that former President Donald J. Trump courted the elder Mr. Walker for months, “DEMANDING that he run.”

Like I said, most Republicans probably couldn't stand Walker at all, but would either blindly (or grudgingly) vote for him, just to stop the Democrat getting in there.

The Hill - Four ways Warnock’s win helps Biden

07 Dec 2022  (condensed +++)

1. Biden’s path for nominees eased

Having 51 seats rather than a 50-50 split with Republicans will enable Democrats to take control of Senate committees, likely making it easier for Biden’s nominees to get approval from those panels without procedural holdups.

2. Biden less reliant on single senators like Manchin

Warnock’s seat provides a bit of additional breathing room should legislation come down to just one or two votes for passage.

3. Biden’s case against MAGA Republicans validated

Biden spent the closing weeks of the midterm campaign making the case that voters should reject what he dubbed “ultra-MAGA Republicans” who were closely associated with former President Trump.
For the most part, Biden’s message appeared to resonate.

4. Harris’s tiebreaking role no longer as vital

Vice President Harris has cast 29 tiebreaking votes in the Senate during her first two years as second in command ...
But with Warnock’s win, her role as the party’s trump card in the event of ties will no longer be as vital.

An opinion piece from Miles Taylor, a former official in the Department of Homeland Security, is the author of “A Warning,” a book about his time in the Trump administration.

More power to him. We need the Republicans to split their votes among two conservative candidates.

Boston Globe: The midterms and Trump’s return show why we need a third party

I was a lifelong Republican, but I see now that the GOP can’t be saved. So I am helping to start a new party.
