kingdragonfly: "There Is A Sucker Born Every Minute"

Quote Investigator

P. T. Barnum put it pretty bluntly when he opined that "there’s a sucker born every minute".

H. L. Mencken framed it another way in observing that "nobody ever went broke underestimating the intelligence of the North American public".

There might be a silver lining to this NFT scam and some Republicans seeing the light over Trump's "major announcement"

President Trump pressured Georgia’s Republican secretary of state: “So look. All I want to do is this. I just want to find 11,780 votes, which is one more than we have.” I wonder how much he would have paid to buy those votes?

In 2024, it would be just punishment if he lost by one vote either the GOP nomination OR presidential victory. That would finally end any further threat of presidential, or presidential candidate, immunity.

Another positive outcome is with Trump or family involving in a huge number of civil cases, and their legal defeats stacking up, all ill gotten gains likely to go to the plaintiffs.

freitasm: And the NFT sold out, proving once again MAGA are idiots.

There's an interesting hypothesis by a couple of linguists in the US that 419 scam emails are deliberately written in a not-very-credible manner in order to self-select for people stupid enough to fall for it. In other words to be gullible enough to fall for the overall scam you need to be gullible enough to believe the initial email so that the scammers don't wasting their time on people who won't fall for the entire con.

This could be a similar thing, if you're dumb enough to fall for the MAGA stuff you've self-selected for being a purchaser of Trump NFTs.

This is all giving Trump way too much credit. He has established beyond any possible doubt that he does not possess the slightest vestige of subtlety or cleverness. He is an obsessive/compulsive vanity-driven egomaniac. There are no hidden depths to him. What you see is what you get. He really does think he can impress people by dressing up in tacky superhero costumes. He does not see the self-parody. He does not understand self-parody. He does not comprehend irony. He really does believe that people will value cheap iconic images of him. Quit trying to make him out to be more than he is. He is a sad, pathetic, self-deluded loser on the way out.

Oh sure, I didn't think it was deliberate, in the same way that I have serious doubts that the 419 hypothesis is correct. More pointing out that if you're dumb enough to be a MAGA-hatter, you're also dumb enough to buy his superhero NFTs.

BBC News - Capitol riot: Committee to seek charges for Trump

today

The congressional inquiry into last year's Capitol riot will reportedly recommend three criminal charges against former President Donald Trump.

The House of Representatives select committee will seek an unprecedented charge of insurrection against a former US president, according to US media. ...

The select committee is scheduled to hold its final meeting on Monday when any charging recommendations would be unveiled.

☺️☺️☺️☺️

but ...

This referral would not carry any legal weight or compel the Justice Department to take any action against former President Donald J. Trump. [ref Washington Post]

When you look at 45,000 NFT'S then think about the population of the US 45,000 is 0.01%. Selling 45,000 isn't all that big a deal especially when I suspect there would have been sales overseas as well.

To be honest I'm not surprised at all by the number sold. They're a curiosity item, which if there were never any more produced might end up worth more than face value. People collect comic books, some people just collect comic memorabilia, should that be memorabilia of comics. Then again some people just collect junk.

Or just 1000 people needed to buy 45 items each. Not a large number. You only need to convince a few idiots.

Perfect money laundering. Even though their FAQ says they need to process KYC, are you sure the platform was correctly configured for that?

I suspect the artist will be dinged for copyright infringement, but as usual I suspect Trump will walk away scot-free.

Daily Kos: Bwahaha! Trump's trading card images appear to have been lifted from catalogs and stock collections

Hmm, what could possibly make the mortal embarrassment surrounding Donald Trump’s recent MAJOR ANNOUNCEMENT even worse? Oh, Satan, please send him more tribulation! Exactly how many albino goats does one have to sacrifice to get you to do one’s bidding? Because the goat viscera is really piling up in the garage, and you can’t put it in the city compost for some reason. Just saying.

So you no doubt saw that Trump’s big reveal was yet another grift—this time in the form of NFTs (nonfungible tokens) that are worth … hmm, I guess whatever Trump says they’re worth. But in reality ... hahahaha! ... nothing. And not only are they worth nothing, apparently any slackjawed yob with Photoshop and an Amazon account could have made their own versions.

This just HILARIOUS !!! 🤣

Reading the above article I clicked on the Twitter feed link and smiled through the whole read

Now some people can not access their purchased cards.

NFT = Non Findable Tokens

The images apparently are not protected so "right click" > "Save Image" 🤣

And once again the "Darwin Awards" go to ....................
