This is the funniest statement I've read for a while. Facts are optional when talking politics now?

Maybe he is referring to alternative facts, a la Kellyanne Conway.

I prefer Jacinda's style... GDP figures are looking good.

rjt123:

Duh! How many facts in your post? Zero.

Not every post needs a statistic. If every single post was a fact there would be no discussion. Honestly, you have the reasoning and the sense of humour of a five year old.

This is just insulting. Ease up on the personal attacks.

So it would seem. But equally, I'm not sure how that's materially any different from other comments over the past week. What am I missing?

Rikkitic: Talking to you is like talking to my cat, except my cat makes more sense and I can pet her.

Rikkitic: Jeezusgodalmighty is that ever patronising! both of you! Yuck. Retch. Heave.

You think nothing of someone calling me a five year old?

I’m certainly not defending that!
But I’m trying to understand - it seems very very similar to some other comments that have been made. Cat, 5yo, what’s the difference?

If you can't see that as a FUG breach I suggest you stop and rethink your participation on Geekzone.

Again, I can see why it is a breach.
My question is why one, but not the other?

Am I being unreasonable asking?

No, not unreasonable. We have thousands of posts a day. If a moderator sees something then it is dealt with. Sometimes things are not seen or reported.

As a police officer once told someone I know - "Why didn't you fine the other guy who was going faster?" and the reply "Because I stopped you".

Things are dealt with as they come and we won't be 100% all the time but we will be some times.

I had nothing to do with that user being banned and I was not the one being called a five year-old, but since you are citing my comments as examples I will try to reply.

The first comment was made tongue in cheek, and I think most reasonable people would see it as such. It was a humorous expression of exasperation, not meant literally. It was not expressed or intended as an insult, but as a comment on a circular dialogue that was going nowhere.

The second remark was a simple statement of fact. The two posters I was responding to were being patronising and I was expressing my disgust about it. They were referring to the Prime Minster of this country as if she was a little girl who had done something clever and deserved a pat on the head. My response was completely justified and proportional. It is time we moved beyond this kind of thing.

The third item you are quoting out of context. I also said the poster was trolling, which he was, and that he was being silly, which he was. That comment came at the end of a series in which the poster kept repeating something I had already responded to. In any case, that remark was also tongue in cheek, as most people would recognise.

Thanks for clearing that up for me.

Here's the rule in question:

  • the post contains abuse towards any person, Geekzone user or not

Saying that someone has the reasoning and sense of humour of a five year old is pretty tame stuff compared to other posts, surely a warning would have sufficed if it wasn't acceptable? It seems that if you disagree with the majority opinion here you have a much higher chance of getting banned.

Some recent posts in the trump thread:

Trump's minions - Don't piss me off, I'm running out of places to hide the bodes

Best kind of scumbag befitting the best scumbag President ever!

I'd say he's a cock.

Trump seems to have a lot of trouble pronouncing polysyllabic words. We laugh at his stumbles because he is such a self-important moron, but I can't help wondering if there may also be something else going on. This could be a sign of dementia or a mini-stroke.

I'm hoping to see him serve ~5 years in PMITA prison followed by a good decade or so of remaining relatively healthy life forced to flip burgers at McDonalds for minimum wage to survive. The rest of the Trump clan can join him after 15-20 years.

That's just on the last couple of 600 odd pages.

These trumps comments don't offend me at all, neither does the rjt123 post. Either the FUG rules need to be updated to allow for 'abuse' just towards certain politicians, or the comments above should not be allowed.

I don't think I need people telling me how the FUG applies. It is not how you want it to be but how we see happening.

Again if anyone disagrees they can find another playground.

Surely the application of the FUG is based on the contents of the FUG. I'm just saying that there's clear inconsistencies, it's not a personal attack...
