A court on Thursday released portions of a report by a special grand jury investigating whether Donald J. Trump and his allies interfered in the presidential election in Georgia in an attempt to overturn the 2020 result.

The released portions do not delve into the grand jury’s conclusions or say whether they recommended indictments related to election interference.

But the jurors said they believed that “one or more” unnamed witnesses who testified in the inquiry may have committed perjury and should face indictment.

They also found “that no widespread fraud took place in the Georgia 2020 presidential election that could result in overturning that election,” rejecting arguments made by Mr. Trump and his supporters. ...

Rudy Giuliani and others* are among the targets of the investigation. ...

The major question remains whether Mr. Trump himself could face criminal charges.

* "others" include David Shafer, the Georgia Republican Party chair, and John Eastman, the lawyer who developed strategies to block the certification of the 2020 election.

Perjury is rare in the US. I believe the thinking is anyone saying "I didn't do it" and found guilty would be guilty of perjury; the sentencing by a judge handles the perjury.

Obviously I'd like to see justice done, for those that deliberately lied under oath, and ultimately weren't sentenced to anything.

I really, really hope that Fox and the a$$holes behind it get nailed into the ground by this. They deserve every bit of what is coming to them. I hope they end up in jail for seditious behaviour and are bankrupted by billion dollar fines for the rest of their miserable worthless parasitic lying existence. I hope Murdoch has his American citizenship revoked on character grounds. I hope Tucker Carlson ends up with his big fat loud mouth full of something unmentionable. I hope Dominion gets a place in Heaven. Payback is way overdue.

Rupert Murdoch - who is totally amoral - dumped Trump, very publicly, two days after the midterm elections.

The lawyers are hoping to elicit testimony from Mr. Trump that could persuade the jury that he, rather than their clients, instigated the crowd that stormed the Capitol on Jan. 6.

I don't fancy their chances. 🙄

Trump won't do anything whatsoever to help them. He didn't get to stay in the White House, even with their "assistance", so no, I don't see him racing into any court to help them out. They're of no use to him (in his view) so he doesn't need them, basically.

The legal system assumes people have free will.

If you commit a crime, even at the direction of someone else, you can be held responsible for your actions.

That does not mean that the person directing you to do it is not also guilty- they very likely are.

It just means that “he told me to do it” is not a particularly strong criminal defense.

Trump has already played the "protected speech" card. (However it's clear he incited imminent lawless action and "fighting words", which are not protected. )

Also he's played the "fifth amendment" card so much, that the ink is being worn out: not answering because Trump knows answering the question will be self-incriminatory.
