This is not correct, in Auckland anyway. Most state houses in Auckland were a long way under 100 square meters. The house my father grew up in is now 90 square meters but it had a 20 square meter addition in the late 60s. This was a house that raised a family of 5. They did normally have large sections.

My first house, built in the 60s, was a 3 bedroom 89 square meter house. This was a nice, compact house. There isn't a ton of room but it is a functional 3 bedroom 1 bathroom house. If you had a young family it would work fine.

There is a ton of articles about the rise of the large suburban house. The expectation of a 4 bedroom 200 square metre house is a fairly recent phenomenon.

Her comments on immigration, and Australia's proposed policies on NZ students are some of the most reactionary ones I have heard in a while.

Maybe this woman is going to be good after all!

On another note. I am starting to soften up to her just a bit. If labour goes ahead and starts to fund uni fees I may end up saving a bit on my kids education. I could put that money into other things, maybe even a new bach. Or just use it towards a new rental.

The average house size in NZ may be 150sqm but that doesn't mean that state houses were that big. They were modest sized, most sources that I can find say the average state house was 80-100sqm in 1930-1949 and I don't see any evidence they got to being a large modern style house. The classical state houses were modest in size, very basic in fit out but well built. They have never been anything like large houses that are built in modern subdivisions. They were budget houses for the working class.

Privately built houses are a different story but in my opinion state housing should be about basic houses to give people a start.

There are different eras of state houses. However my point was they they came with large parcels of land to allow the house to grow. Labours 100 sqm houses will likely not have that ability, due to them likely to be Terranced or high density. . So won't have the same potential in them for increasing their value.

No nobody is likening it to Trumps Muslim ban. But I can see why you jumped so quickly to that conclusion (you read the stuff article). Perhaps go read the original Washington Posts article, then look again at the Tweet by the Washington post. Where does a Muslim ban fit into this? Why on earth will you base something as fact from a website like stuff.co.nz which is just writing a news piece about another news piece/tweet. (+ adding biased opinions). You have fallen into the fake news trap!

Stay away from NZ news sources about US/overseas politics. They all mostly polluted with all sorts of opinions/propaganda etc. If you want the real information, always try to get it from as close to the source as possible. News pieces about news pieces will never be accurate.

Trumps ban is a moslem ban, thats his immigration policy, so yes, likening it to that.

But thats not what the tweet, or the original article is about. You missed it, you read the local biased/opinionated news source, and you were fooled. It explains a lot actually about how the NZ media influences our opinions.

This is part of the reason as to why I did not post a link in my original post about this topic. Stuff news is useless.

What the hell are you talking about? There is no Washington Post article. You are linking to a Wall Street Journal article which is behind a paywall. I think you are just blowing smoke to try to make an impression. The same article (not behind a paywall) can also be found here. It has nothing to do with any Muslim ban.
