I'm starting to get a nasty feeling that he is going to win in 2024.

I see this as a good thing. The more irrational Trump becomes, the harder for his lawyers to spin it. Total public mental disintegration is where this is headed.

The Guardian - ‘Full fascist’ Trump condemned after ‘treason’ rant against NBC and MSNBC

25 Sep 2023

The US media was “almost all dishonest and corrupt”, Trump wrote on his Truth Social platform on Sunday, “but Comcast, with its one-side and vicious coverage by NBC News, and in particular MSNBC … should be investigated for its ‘Country Threatening Treason’.”

Trump added: “I say up front, openly, and proudly, that when I win the presidency of the United States, they and others of the lamestream media will be thoroughly scrutinized for their knowingly dishonest and corrupt coverage of people, things, and events.”

Trump also used familiar terms of abuse for the press: “the enemy of the people” and “the fake news media”.

In response, Occupy Democrats, a progressive advocacy group, said Trump had gone “full fascist” with an “unhinged Sunday-night rant”.

The Biden White House said Trump threatened “an outrageous attack on our democracy and the rule of law”.

I worry about this too - but there's little I can do about it (sadly) 😕

I don't understand how the Dems can't see that they only have to field a half decent candidate against Trump and middle America will vote for them in droves.

And that candidate is not Biden.

Who would you suggest then? I think Gavin Newsom would be good but he's not interested in running (at the moment).

Newsom would be my pick.

He won't throw his hat in the ring while Biden is the party choice.

That's right, he has categorically stated he is behind Biden 100%. If Joe wasn't running again though, I think Newsom would probably put his hand up for the job.

I think this character represents Trump well, such as when he said "I could stand in the middle of 5th Avenue and shoot somebody and I wouldn’t lose voters" in 2016.

https://projects.fivethirtyeight.com/polls/president-primary-r/2024/national/?ex_cid=abcpromo >> somehow, astonishingly, Trump is still leading the (Republican primary) polls. De Santis almost seems to have fallen off a cliff!

Some of the world's toughest and best prosecutors versus a biased, shameless Florida judge appointed by Trump (and Trump's rag-tag shoddy defense lawyers)

But at least any war crimes prosecutors will be calm in any crisis, be unflappable.

If the judge is given any wiggle room, this case will be lost, or Trump could be found guilty, and given a $1 fine.

Politico: Jack Smith adds war crimes prosecutor — his deputy from the Hague — to special counsel team

Special counsel Jack Smith has added a veteran war crimes prosecutor — who served as Smith’s deputy during his stint at the Hague — to his team as it prepares to put former President Donald Trump on trial in Washington and Florida.

Alex Whiting worked alongside Smith for three years, helping prosecute crimes against humanity that occurred in Kosovo in the late 1990s. The Yale-educated attorney also worked as a prosecutor with the International Criminal Court from 2010 to 2013. He has taught law classes at Harvard since 2007 as well, hired as an assistant professor by then-Dean Elena Kagan — now a Supreme Court justice — and rising to a visiting professorship in 2013.

You assume that the world remains halfway rational. I have my doubts about that.
