Pence won't be Trumps running mate given his answers to questions about Trump standing trial etc.

 

The rest of them seem to have left the door open for Trump and their potential to go on Trump ticket.

 

American Politics is very much about Power.
The other candidates seem to be willing to do what it takes to get a leg up on a later Presidential campaign on being Trump chosen one if he makes it.

 

Vivek Ramaswamy seems to have put himself top of the Trump running partner list.
He has support of Peter Thiel, and a shout out to Peter Thiels mate Elon Musk.
Heavyweight GOP donor Leonard Leo who has been behind funding of GOP's campaigns on Judge selections has tossed in cash too.

 

Leo has been instrumental in building a network of influential conservative legal groups funded mostly by anonymous donors, including The 85 Fund and Concord Fund, which serve as funding hubs for affiliated political nonprofits.

 

He assisted Clarence Thomas in his Supreme Court confirmation hearings and led campaigns to support the nominations of John Roberts, Samuel Alito, Neil Gorsuch, Brett Kavanaugh, and Amy Coney Barrett.

Is that Mitch McConnell in the cartoon?

He pretty much single-handily corrupted the supreme court, so the US is screwed for at least a couple of decades.

Speaking of people who should have retired before they died, former supreme court justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg, aged 87, died during Trump's term. If she retired in 2009 that would have given Obama an opportunity to appoint a supreme court justice.

Granted Mitch McConnell would have tried the same dirty trick he used against Obama: blocking a vote for supreme court justice on liberal Merrick Garland about nine months before the 2016 election, saying it was too soon to the election, allow the next guy to do it.

This allowed conservative Judge Amy Coney Barrett in. Though not as sleazy as Clarence Thomas, she is described as shady and corrupt. For example she sold a home to a religious freedom group that has filed numerous briefs in cases before the court.

Of course, the number of supreme court justice is not defined in the constitution, so maybe the next liberal president could increase that to 11.

Seems to me that even Nikki Haley is prevaricating on Trump.
In campaign, yes, they will say opponents are weak, its expected as part of the game at this stage.
However you are not getting the statements that would really hurt Trump.

Virtually no candidate on stage seemed to realize they are in an uphill battle against Donald Trump. - this part is quite appropriate. Trump is doing absolutely no damage to his polling by not attending the debates. Alternatively, he may also not want to give his rivals the opportunity to take digs at his record during his time as President.

He says that because his parents migrated legally, then even though they were not citizens when he was born, that's ok. It's only bad for illegal immigrants.

NEW YORK (The Borowitz Report)—Graduates of Trump University are incensed they were never taught that defrauding banks was a crucial strategy to building a real-estate empire.

 

In interviews with Trump U. alumni, the former students expressed shock and dismay that such an important entrepreneurial skill was somehow omitted from the school’s curriculum.

 

“If I had learned to defraud banks, my career would have played out very differently,” Tracy Klugian, class of 2006, said. “As it is, I’ve gone bankrupt four times.”

Washington Post: First Trump co-defendant pleads guilty in Georgia election case

A defendant in the sweeping election-interference case against former president Donald Trump and 18 others in Fulton County, Ga., became the first to plead guilty on Friday. He also agreed to testify against others.

Scott Hall, a 59-year-old bail bondsman who prosecutors alleged played a wide-ranging role in efforts to overturn Trump’s loss in Georgia, pleaded guilty to five counts of conspiracy to commit intentional interference with the performance of election duties. The felony charges were reduced to misdemeanors because of Hall’s status as a first-time offender.

Hall agreed to serve five years of probation and, importantly for the prosecution’s case, to testify “truthfully in this case and all further proceedings.” That could affect the fortunes of those with whom he is alleged to have interacted, including pro-Trump lawyer Sidney Powell, whose own trial in the case is set to begin Oct. 23, as well as former Justice Department lawyer Jeffrey Clark.

One looming question in the case is how high into the Trump campaign’s hierarchy Hall’s reach extended — and whether the former president or Rudy Giuliani, another co-defendant who led efforts to prove that election fraud had tainted the race, ever interacted with him.

According to an email written by then-state GOP Chairman David Shafer, Hall was acting at the request of David Bossie, the Republican operative, onetime deputy Trump campaign manager, chairman of the conservative activist group Citizens United — and a relative of Hall’s.
