The NY Times - Trump-Carroll Defamation Trial <<< unlocked gift link

The jury has determined that E. Jean Carroll suffered more than nominal damages from Trump’s 2019 statements and awards her $18.3 million in compensatory damages.
The jury awards Carroll $65 million in punitive damages.
Overall, Carroll has been awarded $83.3 million in damages, a massive loss for Trump.
Trump left the courthouse about 20 minutes before word came down that there was a verdict.
EDIT
Jury orders Trump to pay Carroll damages for defamation. Here’s the latest.
A Manhattan jury on Friday ordered former President Donald J. Trump to pay $83.3 million to the writer E. Jean Carroll for defaming her in social media posts, news conferences and even on the campaign trail ever since she first accused him in 2019 of raping her in a department store dressing room decades earlier.
The award included $65 million in punitive damages, which the nine-member jury assessed after finding Mr. Trump, 77, had acted maliciously after Ms. Carroll’s lawyers pointed to Mr. Trump’s persisting in attacks on her, both from the White House and after leaving office. ...
Judge Kaplan tells the jurors that they are free of his order to maintain their anonymity. But, he said, “my advice to you is that you never disclose you were on this jury.”

The Washington Post - Trump ordered to pay E. Jean Carroll $83.3M in defamation damages trial
Today’s ruling may not be the end of the story, according to Andy McCarthy, a former assistant U.S. attorney in the Southern District.
“In theory, if [Donald Trump] continues to repeat what he said, she can continue to sue him, and seek more millions [in] damages.”
Trump has already stated that he will appeal the verdict - the catch: he will have to pay the damages first! 🙃

Don't forget the $350 million possible fine from the fraud trial.
He will definitely appeal a judgement like that, probably for as long has he can.
Sometimes I wish there was just a way to make these judgements against him final - as in, he can't appeal it, and that's the end of that chapter. Otherwise I can imagine him probably continuing to appeal this for the rest of his life, anything to get out of paying a cent for his wrongdoing 😠

How much does that amount to? And I imagine that's after he's paid his lawyers the $0 they were probably not expecting to get.
Saw this on CNN:
Former President Donald Trump on Friday blasted the verdict reached by a jury ordering him to pay E. Jean Carroll $83.3 million in defamation damages and said he would appeal the decision.
Trump posted this on Truth Social:
"Absolutely ridiculous! I fully disagree with both verdicts, and will be appealing this whole Biden Directed Witch Hunt focused on me and the Republican Party. Our Legal System is out of control, and being used as a Political Weapon. They have taken away all First Amendment Rights. THIS IS NOT AMERICA!"
But I thought Biden had absolutely nothing to do with this case? Joe didn't personally file it, did he? So I dunno where he's getting this information from?
In hindsight that Nixon seems a more decent human being than Donald Trump.
There is also an echo in that Nixon's campaign was potentially involved in delaying the Vietnam peace process.
To increase Nixons 1968 election chances.
Additionally deny his opponent a victory before 1968 election and then of course he gets chance to wrap it all up.
Now we have Trump desperately pushing GOP to not support funding for border or any resolutions to keep it as a campaign issue for his campaign.
The NY Times - Trump will not have to pay the full $83.3 million until all his appeals are exhausted. <<< unlocked gift link

Donald J. Trump might one day have to pay E. Jean Carroll the $83.3 million she was awarded, but that day is not today.
Mr. Trump [has] vowed to appeal the verdict, a process that could take months or more.
And while he is waiting for an appellate court to rule, Mr. Trump need not cut Ms. Carroll a check.
Yet the former president is still on the hook to pay something - possibly a sizable sum - while he waits.
Mr. Trump can pay the $83.3 million to the court, which will hold the money while the appeal is pending. This is what he did last year when a jury ordered him to pay Ms. Carroll $5.5 million in a related case.
Or, Mr. Trump can try to secure a bond, which will save him from having to pay the full amount up front.
A bond might require him to pay a deposit and offer collateral, and would come with interest and fees.
It would also require Mr. Trump to find a financial institution willing to lend him a large sum of money at a time when he is in significant legal jeopardy. ...
$83.3 million eclipses the amount in his political accounts. The verdict on Friday will require Mr. Trump to reach into his own pocket.
EDIT
According to New York-based Pedersen & Sons Surety Bond Agency Inc., a civil appeal doesn't delay a judgment from being paid.
In fact, filing an appeal requires a bond that includes additional statutory interest that, in Trump's case, would amount to an additional $7.5 million to the court.
"The requested bond is generally an amount greater than the judgment sum - [New York civil law] requires that post-judgment interest and cost are included in the amount. New York State has a 9% statutory interest running on any judgment entered," the bond agency's website reads.

It's nothing to do with the case directly. He's linking Biden with persecution subconsciously in the minds of his supporters.
Ah yes, the old deflection thing which he's actually moderately good at. Well, at least to his supporters, anyway.
