Stephen Colbert most impassioned monologue I've ever seen. Though no matter how bad the optics, the Supreme Court doesn't care justice among the mere mortals.

Stephen declares Supreme Court of the United States, SCOTUS, unconstitutional

The NY Times - Judge Considers Timing of Trump Classified Documents Trial

01 March 2024

A federal judge in Florida is holding a hearing on Friday to pick a new date for former President Donald J. Trump’s trial on charges of mishandling classified documents, a move that is likely to have major consequences for his legal and political future.

The judge, Aileen M. Cannon, has previously said she is inclined to make some “reasonable adjustments” to the timing of the trial, which for the moment, at least, is set to start on May 20 in Federal District Court in Fort Pierce, Fla.

Several decisions Judge Cannon has reached in recent months about the pacing of the case have made it all but impossible for the trial to start as scheduled.

What remains to be seen is just how long of a delay Judge Cannon ends up imposing. ...

Delay, delay, delay ...   😡

How Trump, suddenly strapped for cash, could raise more than half a billion dollars to satisfy judgments against him.

Whilst the difficult we can do immediately, the impossible takes a bit longer. However, miracles you will have to wait for.

The Washington Post - The 5-Minute Fix: When will Trump go to trial this year?

today

Possibly only once, on what is widely believed to be the smallest and perhaps least consequential of Donald Trump’s four criminal cases: whether he illegally transferred money to pay off an adult-film actress from alleging an affair during his 2016 presidential run. That will happen this month.

The rest he has successfully delayed until close to the November election, or after it.

On the most consequential trial, his conduct leading up to the Jan. 6, 2021, attack on the U.S. Capitol, the Supreme Court has effectively sided with the former president. This week, the justices said they will hear his case about presidential immunity - even though lower courts have unequivocally said he does not have immunity.

But even if the Supreme Court says Trump can be prosecuted for actions he took while president, he may not go to trial until right up to, or even after, the 2024 election.

This trial was originally scheduled to start next week.

Delay, delay, delay ...   😡

Where does each criminal case stand?

So in the wake him being convicted over lying about how much money he has, they believe him when he says he's got enough money to cover it?

The stupid. It hurts.

https://www.rawstory.com/alina-habba-s-billionaire-boast-bites-her-as-she-admits-trump-can-t-pay-cash-bond/ >> more info here.

"Yes," the attorney replied. "I mean, he does, of course he has money. You know, he's a billionaire. We know that."

"So he'll just write a check, Alina?" the host pressed.

"I'm not gonna get into privileged information, but there will be a bond, and there will be no issues with that," she added. "So that's all I'll say on that."

Habba made a similar claim to Fox News.

"What they're trying to do between this case between my last case is put [Trump] out of business," she argued. "It's not gonna work, number one. Number two, what they're doing is a scare tactic. Unfortunately, they picked the wrong guy to pick on, in my opinion, because he's strong, he's resilient and he happens to have a lot of cash."

Seriously, if he really just has all this money lying around doing nothing (like the Newsmax guy - rightfully - asked her), what's the issue? Should be no problem for Trump just to write a cheque to get his appeal underway, right? 😃

What "privileged information" is she referring to? Doesn't the entire world know that Trump is (supposedly) a billionaire? How is that "privileged information"? I think she dug herself into a hole with that response and doesn't know how to find her way out of it.

Side note, who is the bloke interviewing her above? Looks a bit like Anthony Scaramucci?

Ouch!

Based on a New York Times / Siena College poll of 980 registered voters conducted Feb. 25 to 28, 2024.

I find this astonishing ... but I'm not a registered American voter.   😕

That isn't too bad for a lead, outside the margin of error eh?

I'm still awaiting Allan Lichtman but I think he's going to make his prediction around July/August.

RawStory - 'Venezwheregullah': Trump's most ridiculed 'short circuits' from North Carolina rally

02 March 24

Donald Trump had several verbal slip-ups at his rally in North Carolina on Saturday  ...

Two short circuits:

"Migrant kime" = migrant crime

"Venezwheregullah" = Venezuela

If you look at the post @kingdragonfly made on the W.T.F. thread, this isn't astonishing at all. Intelligence, judgement, and taste are not requirements to participate in American elections.

The Washington Post - Trump deflects anti-democracy criticism; accuses Biden, without evidence, of conspiring against U.S.

02 March 2024

GREENSBORO, N.C. - Donald Trump made a renewed attempt to turn criticism that he is a threat to democracy on its head, accusing President Biden without evidence of conspiring against the United States with his policies at the southern border.

Biden’s conduct on our border is by any definition a conspiracy to overthrow the United States of America,” Trump told the crowd. “He talks about democracy. He is a danger to democracy.”

Trump’s remarks come as he faces 91 charges across four criminal cases. ...

Trump’s statement Saturday is the latest in a long pattern of responding to attacks by leveling the same accusations against his opponents. ...

A Biden campaign spokesman responded: “Once again Trump is projecting in an attempt to distract the American people from the fact he killed the fairest and toughest border security bill in decades because he believed it would help his campaign.”

... and more than 50% of Americans claim to believe Trump.

I'm very afraid that they will get the President that they deserve.   😡
