I have family in the US and I honestly hope that Trump doesn't win again, as the majority of the family I have there are Democrats, who absolutely can't stand the guy.

I think we all honestly hope Trump doesn't win again, US family or not. But I sympathise - it's going to be a rough 4 years ... and who the hell knows what will happen at the end of it. If the Supreme Court decide he has absolute criminal immunity, they've declared him King of the USA.

Still hard to reconcile if the SCOTUS decide a President has criminal immunity.
He, like all fascists, will simply continue the discourse of persecuting the opposition, knowing too well the opposition won't use the same - because that's how fascists work. They know the other side won't use the same shit they use.

It really looks like they are leaning that way.
In 2000 they decided the Gore v. Bush Florida issue in 3 days. If they wanted to declare that presidents do not have criminal immunity they could just do so. They could simply decline to take the case. They could positively affirm the DC appellate court decision which all the lawyers seem to agree is bullet-proof. They could take oral arguments next week and then affirm the DC appellate court decision the week after, adding in a couple of ideas of their own which if they haven't been thinking about it for the last 6 months already they're frankly not doing their jobs.
The timing they have set forth does not make sense in any way other than that they have already decided they're letting Trump get away with everything. Because by that point it's too late for the trials to all go ahead even if the decision is that he is not immune. Once he's in he can have the DoJ instructed to drop the cases still pending and pardon himself for others. It's naked corruption but the Supreme Court will have already proven they're OK with it.
And the last step will be to announce that he will be running again for President in 2028, if indeed by that point the country isn't yet ripe for him to simply declare himself President for life.
The one thing I don't understand is how can the Democrat-leaning justices be so loyal to the system that they won't say a damn thing about it? They're not fools, they can read the situation as well as anyone else can. They know what will happen if Trump is allowed to get away with everything.

USA could become a North Korea, forever the ruling family, with extended Trump family.
Its Trumps all the way down, maybe why Kim fascinated him so.
We got an inkling of what might happen.
A Trump Postmaster who destroys mail sorting machines to make postal votes difficult.
Trump did not get strong enough loyalists in other departments like Security and Defense.
Though Justice Department was just a hair away.
Trump second time around and the people closest to him cooking up new strategy to cleanse Government departments.
Rapidly inserting full on MAGA, absolute loyalists.
This is the 1 day a dictator plan, (He's already said it), though if a day is not enough.
Peter Navaro an his ilk have no problem enabling trashing of democracy.
Orban may also be handing on some lessons and instructions from Putin when he make a personal visit to Trump.

Shall I be honest?
Hope alone will not help. This whole situation is very reminiscent of the Weimar Republic in 1930, when the young democracy (after the emporer‘s times) in Germany had just begun and there was so much toing and froing that splinter parties ended up deciding majorities. Then came the big, strong man in 1933, who abruptly put an end to it all. With the consequences that we all know.
The German people have deeply regretted having followed the Pied Piper back then (US citizens, be aware!). But I fear that we in Europe do NOT have the military capabilities to restore freedom and remove a totalitarian regime, as the USA (and others) enabled us to do after WW II.

I know, but I guess I'm vaguely optimistic that enough people will not vote Trump this time that he will lose again.
Yes Biden has faults - a tonne of them - but he's a reasonably decent man who wants to try and bring together everyone, not just the morons that make up the MAGA base, and to hell with everyone else.

Who is flawless? If you had the choice, who would you vote for?
Candidate 1: He works with bribed politicians, consults astrologers
and has two lovers on the side. He also chain smokes
and drinks about ten glasses of martini every day.
Candidate 2: He was fired from two jobs, always sleeps until half past
eleven, smoked opium during his youth at university and drinks
a whole bottle of whiskey every day.
Candidate 3: He has been honoured as a hero by his country. Is
vegetarian, doesn't smoke, doesn't drink and has no scandals in his past.
Which of these candidates will you vote for?
Ah, you want the names behind?
Candidate 1: Franklin D. Roosevelt
Candidate 2: Sir Winston Churchill
Candidate 3: Adolf Hitler

Oh I agree with you, no one is perfect. Hell, even once upon a time I imagine that Trump himself was a decent man - remember he used to be a Democrat. But somewhere along the way he's changed into the God-awful person he is today (just ask his niece Mary).
Like I said Joe has faults, but I guess my point is at least he tries to govern for everyone in America, not just the base that voted him in (a la the orange buffoon).

If Trump suffers a narrow loss, his supporters will probably stage a violent insurrection. If he suffers a big loss, they may still try. This is a battle for the soul of America and these people have made very clear that they won't take no for an answer. Democrats and others who believe in the rule of law still do not understand that. They are dealing with people who will twist things any way they can to serve their interests. They think they are on some kind of holy crusade and their end justifies any means. They do not play by the rules. They will do anything to win.

Absolutely, I just wanted to show you that you have to detach yourself from people and as a citizen you have to look very closely, but really very closely, at what these people are up to (some things they say, some things they don't say).
Everything that is decided against or eliminates the personal freedom of the individual and the human dignity of others reveals the true enemy of the sovereign citizen. If he is asleep or doesn't care or simply shouts populist slogans out of political laziness or stupidity, then things look bad for everyone. Unfortunately, this will only be realised when it is already too late.
What you call MAGA-base is damn similar to the SA thugs of the Nazis. The masses of them were also stupid and were controlled by "intelligent" manipulators. The only thing that mattered to the book-burning thugs was that their members rose from economic and social nobodies to "respected" feared individuals, who could really show the more intelligent, educated, socially higher-ranking people what they were made of.
