The NY Times -  Even Biden supporters say he is ‘just too old’

today

Based on a New York Times / Siena College poll of 980 registered voters conducted Feb. 25 to 28, 2024

A New York Times / Siena College poll [OF ALL REGISTERED VOTERS] revealed how much even his supporters worry about his age, intensifying what has become a grave threat to his re-election bid. ...

Nineteen percent of those who voted for Mr. Biden in 2020, and 13 percent of those who said they would back him in November, said the 81-year-old president’s age was such a problem that he was no longer capable of handling the job.

Sad.   πŸ™

[Disclosure: I am older than Trump and younger than Biden]

The NY Times -  Supreme Court Poised to Rule on Monday on Trump’s Eligibility to Hold Office

breaking

The Supreme Court announced on Sunday that it would issue at least one decision on Monday, a strong signal that it would rule then on former President Donald J. Trump’s eligibility for Colorado’s primary ballot. ...

The ruling is likely to resolve not only whether Mr. Trump may appear on the Colorado primary ballot but also whether he is eligible to run in the general election.

Indeed, the decision will almost certainly apply to any other state where Mr. Trump’s eligibility to run has been challenged.

I know, but I guess I'm vaguely optimistic that enough people will not vote Trump this time that he will lose again.

Yes Biden has faults - a tonne of them - but he's a reasonably decent man who wants to try and bring together everyone, not just the morons that make up the MAGA base, and to hell with everyone else.

If Trump suffers a narrow loss, his supporters will probably stage a violent insurrection. If he suffers a big loss, they may still try. This is a battle for the soul of America and these people have made very clear that they won't take no for an answer. Democrats and others who believe in the rule of law still do not understand that. They are dealing with people who will twist things any way they can to serve their interests. They think they are on some kind of holy crusade and their end justifies any means. They do not play by the rules. They will do anything to win.

On that one I think yes and no - yes some idiots will try it on, but I think a sizeable portion of them will grumble and be unhappy but won't do anything. My logic behind this is after he got the thugs to do his bidding on January 6 failed as the election was still formalised for Biden winning, the orange buffoon just walked away and washed his hands of them. He didn't pay for any of their lawyers and didn't do anything to try and stop any of them from going to jail - all to satisfy his bruised ego because he lost.

I remember when Biden was inaugurated, a rather pathetic number of people showed up to protest but the majority realised Trump's reign as President was over. I'm banking on a similar outcome if he loses - most people (I hope) won't be stupid enough to put their lives and careers on the line for him.

I really don't see anyone who survived January 6 (and by "survived" I mean was there but wasn't arrested) rolling the dice a second time to go back and protest if Trump loses again. I think more people noticed that he essentially walked away and washed his hands of the losers, leaving them to take the fall for him. Moreso if they lost jobs/family relationships over the whole thing.

I think you're grossly underestimating the idiocy of Trumpettes.

I probably am, but I'm also somewhat optimistic. My optimism may be misplaced, however.

Loss or win it's likely to be a close run in either case. That could lead to all kinds of scenarios. Pressure on vote counting in individual states could be intense. If there are nuts this time we can expect them to be extra-extra super-nuts.

Trump will use that result to claim that the Washington swamp needs emptying.

Woah ... ok, let's not get too excited, but if they ruled on Monday that Trump was ineligible to be on the ballot, then they would have all the time in the world to examine the other issues. Such as immunity ... which they have put off till nearly the end of next month. Could that be why they're feeling so leisurely with the immunity issue? Nonono mustn't get hopes up.

One thing's for sure: if SCOTUS screws this up and Trump gets elected, it could be the end of SCOTUS itself. Dictator Donny won't want rival decision makers.
