I can only imagine what the Police would do if I left my loaded Glock in a toilet...

I didn't realise they carried loaded guns around parliment! When did that happen. Mistakes happen though as we are only human.
Police are also armed at airports - which is a legal requirement.
I can understand airports due to the whole terror thing, but didn't know about Parliament. Although after what has happened in the UK today, it doesn't surprise me.
has there *ever* been a terror thing at an airport in NZ?
You would be surprised how often police are actually armed, a lot more frequently than people think!
Rest assured, there will be one day.

hmmmm, It said when they became aware of it being there was it then a case of right everybody line up, Now come on check to see if you are missing something lol
Ding Ding Ding Ding Ding : Ice cream man , Ice cream man

Meanwhile, more than twice as many people died in car crashes in New Zealand last year as were killed by terrorists in France and Belgium combined. WHERE'S THE MORAL PANIC!?
iPad Pro 11" + iPhone 15 Pro Max + 2degrees 4tw!
These comments are my own and do not represent the opinions of 2degrees.

Doh , Somebody is going to loose their job over this I would say.
How could you forget your gun would it not be in a holster or something.
Perhaps they left it there for Paula Bennett so she could use it to reduce the number of homeless in NZ.
Yeah there has. A number of years ago, some crazy woman from Somalia tried to hijack a small plane in Blenheim. Not aware of any others.

Oh good grief are you serious?! You understand cars are USEFUL! Are terrorists? /me SMH
I am sorry the terror attacks don't kill more people so you can feel anti-terrorism is "useful"

I know there isn't much of a difference between a terrorist and a crazy woman, but I don't think she was a terrorist

I am all for banning guns in NZ altogether (except for sport or farming), as gun incidents in NZ are now a daily problem. We don't want to become like the USA, as it is only a matter of time.
Daily Problem?! I'd like to see some evidence of this?
Probably should have read 'becoming a daily problem'. Don't know if there are any stats out there, but this article quoting the police says that barely a week goes by when there isn't a gun related incident in NZ. Also 1.5% of incidents that police are called to involve guns, which sounds high. So I would be interested in seeing the official stats too if they exist, of gun related incidents. I suppose not all incidents are reported crimes either. I presume the increase in gun related incidents is why police want to be armed now. http://www.nzherald.co.nz/nz/news/article.cfm?c_id=1&objectid=11523742 Just a week or so ago, a baby was shot. Also not all incidents get reported.
Just in Wellington there have been several high profile gun related incidents that have made national headlines over the last year. Infact I was within a street of two different incidents when they occurred. They do seem to becoming a lot more frequent.

According to this page, http://www.crime.co.nz/c-files.aspx?ID=10751 there are 4000 firearm offenses a year in New Zealand. That is between 9-10 a day! That looks like it was done back in 1996, so wonder what it is now.

"Mistakes happen though as we are only human. "
Not according to some people, everything is preventable.

Well, this certainly was, don't you think!? At best it was careless, at worst it was criminally negligent. They are very lucky nothing bad happened as a result.

And what do you think the Police would do to a member of the public who left their legally held pistol in a toilet somewhere?
1) FAC revoked
2) Firearms seized
3) Prosecution
I see no reason why the person who left it in a toilet should not suffer exactly the same penalties: the fact that they are in the Blue Gang should make no difference at all.

I don't , but my interest is piqued.
How would you have prevented this?

I'm sorry, what?! You think this was UNAVOIDABLE?
If so, stop wasting my time.
