Too soon to tell but in my view she has inadequate experience to lead a nation at this time.

She is far more qualified than most MP's I'd suggest, and

She attended the University of Waikato, where she earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Communications. She joined the Labour Party at a young age, and became a senior figure in the Young Labour branch of the party. After graduating from Waikato University, she spent time working in the offices of Phil Goffand of Helen Clark as a researcher. She later spent time in London, working as a senior policy advisor to Tony Blair.[5] In early 2008 she won election as the President of the International Union of Socialist Youth. After a high placement on Labour's party list for the 2008 election (her ranking at number 20 virtually guaranteed a seat in Parliament) Ardern returned from London to campaign full-time. She also became the Party's candidate for the Waikato electorate.

So, precisely no real world economic or business experience at all then?

Just many years spent in a socialist echo chamber?

To be a Leader she does not need it, that is what she has a Finance Minister for and other Ministers. She also has a stack of advisors and Department heads etc

I disagree. She is potentially the PM, not a sock puppet. She must understand what is being discussed, she must be able to form an opinion on what her ministers are proposing not simply nod and say in effect "whatever - you're the finance minister so we'll just go with what you say.".

Real world experience of how the nation makes it's money is extremely useful.

Old boys who want to keep young ladies out of the club usually start rabbiting on about things like old boy expertise. I am more than happy to let Jacinda play with my marbles.

You have totally lost me. How can what Mike said mean she is a sock puppet? She is the CEO of the potential  Labour Govt. The Ministers are CEO of their Ministry. Under that are the professionals who have all the knowledge and data. Thats what national has now, its standard.

To suggest that she may not understand, may not be able to form an opinion, and may just nod and agree is slightly bizarre.

Maybe you're right. She's young and a female, so clearly not up to it. I thought it was 2017 not 1917.

If she were a "Good Leader" she would have come out with a bold move. Like cut the greens/labour agreement. That agreement is a disaster for Labour.

She would dig her heels in, and modify some policies to show that she is a different choice from labour mess that Twittle, Cunliffe, Shearer and created. Start whipping that engine into shape. Unfortunately she didn't want the job, and may pick up a few youth votes possibly from the greens. She has not created any reason for me to consider voting Labour. Shes in a honeymoon phase, and I see more of the same from the labour party with just a pretty face as the leader.

Fortune favours the bold.

How many days has it been?  Based on the few days you see that meaning more of the same from the Labour party. Well, ok.

Maybe a week,

And all I have seen from her so far is:

1) She had a golden opportunity about 4 or 5 days ago to cut the Greens when Metiria Turei refused to resign. And she failed to do so.

2) She is also proposing a 10c regional fuel tax to build light rail out to the airport. Do you really think that the people in Auckland will benefit from a regional tax they have to pay for a service they will never use? One that will be used by Tourists (people flying into Auckland mainly from the other regions, or other countries)?

I don't even know what else she has changed, perhaps there are a few more minor things that I missed that were lightly reported in the media.

Fair enough, thats the point of the thread, to comment on her

In short, she is not a good leader, failing to oust MOU is a disaster, nothing has changed for Labour, so she is just another ineffective leader

Her interview with Stuff was very non-committal and PC. Any other face from Labour/National would have given the exact same answers. She's just a new face with the same ol' labour policies which hasn't resonated with the majority over the last 9 years.

I'm expecting the votes that Greens lose due to Turei will be gained by Labour.

Why do believe she does not have the ability to understand ?

So based on your theory a PM must be the following...

A defence expert

Diplomacy specialist

A doctor

A scientist specialising in Biology, Physics, Astro Physics, Chemistry

An Anthropologist

An economist

An Accountant

A lawyer

And the list goes on and on and on and on .......

Here is a crazy notion, lets give peace a chance.

The PM should at least have had some work experience, not just sat around playing politics at the expense of the public purse. As, indeed, should all MPs.

IMHO, and my take, is that if she is in the "other" party, she needs to be opposed. The purpose of this thread was to talk about her and what may happen, and not about Blue vs Red

She is a leader, she has proven that already. Is she a PM? who knows and if she gets the chance I believe she will do a good job of it. I do not believe at this time in the election that she is enough for me to vote Labour, that may of course change over the campaign time depending on their policy package.

My opinion is that she's demonstrated precisely zero capability to lead a country.

She's never been in a caucus meeting - let alone lead one

She's never won a seat in a General Election - despite standing numerous times

She's has no private-sector experience whatsoever.  (I don't consider after school jobs to meet the qualifying standard here)

She hasn't advanced any meaningful policy

She can't point to a single achievement that has lead to the improvement in circumstances for her voter base

She's merely the 5th person to take their turn sitting in the #1 seat of a party that's been declining steadily in numbers for the past decade.

She is a media darling.  Perfect in scripted/manufactured encounters but out of her depth in a free-form debate or contest of ideas. That is all I've seen so far.
