Strike is a legitimate part of the contract process as is lock out

The New Zealand National Party is for all intents and purposes the political wing of the Business Round Table.

Also Etu is not formally associated with the Labour party, and are very limited in what they can do in terms of advocating for a particular party.

Not at all. I was merely commenting on the gabble from the chook house.

Strikes are a legal and legitimate form of protest action enshrined in modern liberal democracies. The withdrawal of labour is one of the few pressure mechanisms available to workers seeking to improve their wages and working conditions. I'm not sure what you and the rest of the flock have against them. Workers fought long and hard bloody battles to win the right to strike.

As for striking, you say legitimate part of the process, I say a legalised way of blackmailing employers. Striking should be illegal, as should collective agreements and probably unions in general. They exist to protect the deadwood and nothing else.

Collective bargaining and unions are how the workers can address the power imbalance when dealing with an employer. Sometimes the withholding of labour is the only bargaining chip the workers have so they have to use it. It should be noted in the Etu and Premier Bacon dispute they aren't going on strike. But are refusing to do overtime beyond their contractual hours.

As for deadwood, I have seen just as much deadwood in non-unionised work places as unionised ones.

We all know where that leads...

Workers already have the right to down tools, and find work elsewhere if they not happy. I have never understood the logic behind workers unions. If you not happy where you are, move along and be done with it. There is your freedom. nobody is forcing you to work.

Strikes work in the short term only, strikes = higher wages. But in the long term, corporations will simply move production from higher wage countries, to lower wage countries. Plenty of examples of that in Aus/NZ.
