Sadly, this story was too good to be true ...

yahoo! news -  Misleading Photo Suggests Trump Would Face an All-Black, All-Female Panel of Judges on Appeal

31 May 2024

In a post on X (formerly Twitter) with more than 1.4 million views, Elijah Schaffer of Gateway Pundit asked, “Do you think Trump has a chance with the Manhattan appeals court?” and included this photo [above].

Schaffer’s post is misleading.

While the women pictured are all members of the court that could hear an appeal to Trump’s case, they are only five of the 21 justices who could be selected to sit for the case. ...

While all five of these justices should be available to sit for an appeal to Trump’s guilty conviction, the actual five would be chosen from the department’s full roster of 21 justices.

That's because these voices focus on headlines because they know the base don't read past that.

BBC News -  Biden: 'Reckless' for Trump to call trial rigged

today

US President Joe Biden has said it was "reckless" for his predecessor, Donald Trump, to call his trial rigged, a day after the historic conviction.

"The American principle that no-one is above the law was reaffirmed," said Mr Biden of Thursday's outcome.

Earlier on Friday, Trump delivered a fiery news conference at Trump Tower in Manhattan, calling the judge "crooked", the trial a "sham" and Democrats "thugs".

Mr Biden said his Republican opponent in November's presidential election had been given "every opportunity" to defend himself and be heard by a jury of 12 American citizens, and has no right to complain that the process was not fair.

"It's reckless. It's dangerous. It's irresponsible for anyone to say this was rigged just because they don't like the verdict," he said, adding that Trump is welcome to file an appeal.

Interesting point in this article. But remember that the US (federal) Supreme Court almost never gets involved in cases that have reached the State's Supreme Court. Moreover it typically takes at least a year, usually multiple years before an appeals makes it to the State Supreme Court.

However there's almost no bounds to the Supreme Court's power, and misuse of its powers.

All the Supreme court can do is to render decisions and issue orders. The courts themselves do not have any means of enforcing their judgments. For this they must rely on the executive branch of government, ultimately the President.

If the executive branch refuses to enforce a court order or judgment the court is powerless to do anything about it. This is where both Congress, voting for the president, and public opinion play role.

Colorado Sun: Littwin opinion piece: Jurors said Trump is guilty 34 times over. Now it’s up to voters to say it just one more time.
...
When he is judged, by the Colorado Supreme Court no less, That Trump was an official insurrectionist and therefore kicked off the Colorado ballot, you knew that wouldn’t matter.

The U.S. Supreme Court not only overturned the Colorado Supreme Court, but never even broached the subject of whether Trump was an insurrectionist. The opinion basically said Trump’s behavior was, as it always seems to be, irrelevant to the case, just like Samuel Alito’s flags are irrelevant to his ability to judge fairly.

Compared to Conway's usual calm demeanor, it was a melt-down.

Think what you like of Michael Cohen but his perfect description of Trump's latest rant deserves a medal:

'A crazy avalanche of broken brain word manure'.

That belongs right up there with some of Muhammad Ali's best quips.

I'd rather they become broke than armed and violent.

Given the target demographics, basically the stupid, in the long term, it means the GOP, and mega-churches goes unfunded. Oh and grandparents blowing it in a Las Vegas casino.

Also in the long term, it allows the FBI to track domestic terrorist organizations, and radicalized cultist. I bet the FBI agents are thinking "man, I wish we could go back to the days of 'Black Lives Matter' instead of all these heavily armed and armored rednecks. They're a lower class of people."

The Atlantic: The MAGA Internet Calls for War

After a jury found Donald Trump guilty of 34 felony charges yesterday, Bronze Age Pervert, the alter ego of the edgelord influencer Costin Alamariu, retweeted one of his own posts from March. It is a movie clip depicting a scene of armed men storming buildings and gunning people down. In the text accompanying the post, Bronze Age Pervert jokes that the clip is real footage of a “well-planned neutralization operation” that will take place after Trump wins his reelection campaign.

The MAGA faithful are once again on the internet threatening violence.

As nice as it might to think this might happen, the orange buffoon isn't going to go anywhere, no matter how good or bad it might be for the Republican Party. He would see dropping out as a sign of "weakness".

Right up there with wearing a mask or dying of coronavirus (something else he also thought was "weak") 🙄

The NY Times - Opinion - Six of Trump’s Dumbest Trial Mistakes

31 May 2024  (headings only)

  • Trump disrespected the judge.

  • Trump dozed for much of the trial.

  • The defense blew its cross-examination of Stormy Daniels.

  • The defense dropped its best anti-Michael Cohen argument.

  • The defense insisted on calling a witness [the thuggish Robert Costello].

  • The defense lied about the “Access Hollywood” tape.
