I suspect that a main problem for NK would be a cashflow issue - they don't have a buoyant economy,

Don't think it'd be a major issue putting together a deal through a Chinese trader - in this case the (NZ) supplier probably had no idea what was going on.

Fighter jets and other armaments - perhaps not. OTOH they seem to be doing okay in their DIY fashion But they will be needing to import materials and components. They even have a DIY satellite in orbit.

Probably. Just like KJ* has played everyone all along. Its an impasse, a stalemate, and IMO thats a sound solution right now.

Im not sure what serious solution is available. If you were the negotiator, what would you ask NK and USA to concede on, if anything, and what would you ask them to offer?

The US won't do what they need to do - scale back and plan to eventually get out of the Korean Peninsula.

Are you really being 'played' when you know exactly what's going on? Everyone has tried to settle the issue peacefully since the end of the Korean War. It hasn't worked so far, and the time may well be coming soon when there are no other options left. But that time isn't here yet.

And for the record, my personal opinion is that the NK government and the Kim family in particular are evil and - despite it being wrong to feel that way - I'd be lying if I said I wouldn't be quietly cheering if a bunker buster happened to fall on his head. The only reason not to do that right now is that it would unleash hell. But if he chooses to take the first step then by all means we - the whole world - should step in and flatten him.

Ok, that's all I needed to know. Too many just say we need diplomacy, no one says any more.

You feel the US should move out, thats fine, a good idea. Thats all that needs to happen? I guess, as NK is permanently nuclear armed now.

We need to remove all sanctions as well?

Played as in sought a peaceful resolution, then got backed out on. Rinsed and repeated that a few times

When they are saying stuff like this I think we are OK it will be when they go quiet that we should really worry as probably decisions have been made.

They have just announced they are going to launch more missiles....and they will. Sure they wont kill people unless it all goes wrong, but they are making insane decisions with no regard for anyone else. They will launch to kill when they have they capability if someone pisses them off.

NK has won the stupid oral fight with Trump....Trump is all wind and NK proved it.

This is very bad. The USA should move towards concluding the Korean armistice with a peace agreement with a pathway to unification built in for the long term. Both NK and SK have done significant work on that pathway and there is far more to that possibility than most people would think given what is happening at the moment. It is a very long term proposition but an established path with many agreed signposts.

To be fair the same goes for every POTUS since this started in the 1950's at the end of the war, they all failed. Trump just happens to be the person in the chair right now

Under the proposed federal structure that NK and SK have worked on in the past no-one gives up anything for a long long time, but it begins the process of a shared relationship and travel being more common and things like that. At present it is illegal. South Koreans cannot go there if they wish to for any purpose, cannot invest in the north etc. A better relationship means the common ground increases and a shared destiny will develop out of that as intended.

At the same time the the Trump team is playing Iran: (opinion from former US diplomat)

CNN: Last week, the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) once again reported that all parties to the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) -- including Iran -- are in full compliance with the agreement. This marks the 8th time the agency, in its regular reports mandated by the JCPOA, has confirmed that the nuclear deal is working -- and it must be noted that since the implementation of the JCPOA, not once has the agency found Iran to be out of compliance.

The deal took the threat of a nuclear Iran off the table, but President Donald Trump seems ready to ignore the evidence and declare Iran out of compliance in defiance of all the experts. US Ambassador to the UN Nikki Haley even made the case for the withdrawal from the Iran deal on Tuesday.

IMO NK never responds, they start something so others respond

If they took a period and just kept quiet, no launches, and see what happens. Then it becomes a lot easier for the west to look at talks.
