Depressingly, yes. Remember, almost every poll in the world said in 2016 that Hillary was going to win (some by some fairly significant margins), but we all know what happened next.

And she would have made it, had it not been for James Comey's bad judgement call.

This assassin was a bit more serious. His gun was at its maximum sniper range, based on his experience, it would have likely been a kill shot.

Luck for Trump he wasn't using carrying a ghillie suit and binoculars, or Trump would have been dead.

Assassin in the US seems to be used assault rifles and scopes these days. Gone are the days of hunting rifles.

BBC: Trump shooting attempt suspect was near golf course for 12 hours, FBI says

The FBI, Secret Service and local sheriff are giving an update on the apparent assassination attempt of former US President Donald Trump

The suspected gunman has appeared before a court in Florida

Ryan Wesley Routh, 58, is charged with federal gun crimes - possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and possession of a firearm with an obstructed serial number

Routh was hiding on the edge of Trump's Florida golf course for nearly 12 hours, court documents show

Trump was unharmed after a gunman was spotted ahead of where the former president was playing golf on Sunday - it is the second apparent attempt on his life in two months

It has led to questions about the safety of US presidential candidates - with some lawmakers calling for candidates to have additional security

^ this last one really makes my blood boil. Republicans are claiming "oh it's rhetoric from the left, saying Trump would be like Hitler, blah blah blah..."

Problem is, when you have him saying things like "I'll be a dictator for a day", what do you expect the other side to say? Have you tried asking your own guy to tone it down a bit??? No, because it's far, far easier to try and find a scapegoat on the other side!

😠

It's been on the cards for a couple of months. Why do you think hes been talking up cryptocurrencies lately, meeting with "leaders" in this area, etc - when he used to say crypto is bad?

The grift never stops.

From the article:

He has sold $399 golden sneakers and recently advertised to supporters “fifty all new stunning digital trading cards” for purchase at a cost of $99 each. Buy 75 and get access to a dinner gala with Trump, plus pieces of a suit he wore in his debate against President Joe Biden.

“These cards show me dancing and even holding some bitcoins,” Trump said in a video posted to Truth Social.

Crypto currencies are for drug cartels, scammers and idiots.

Trump doesn't run a drug cartel (AFAIK).

This story does a much better job than I could of explaining Trump's hypocrisy of blaming the Democrats and "their rhetoric" for him being shot at when he has a BIG hand in it happening in the first place.

Re Barron, it's pointless to expect anyone raised by, or living in close proximity to Donald Trump, to behave sensibly. Anyone else reading 'All In The Family - The Trumps and How We Got This way' by Fred Trump? Author Fred is the third 'Frederick *Crist Trump' and is the brother of Mary Trump - the feisty lady who's frequently seen shredding DJT on YouTube. It's chilling reading but the feces really hit the fan in the second half of the book, when he explains how he, his wife and three kids, plus his sister Mary, were cut out of the Trump family trust when Donald, frantic for money to prop up his failing 'empire', pressures his father, the ailing and demented Fred 1, to alter his will. There's much more and much worse, but I won't spoil your read.

*BTW: When the patriarch Frederick Christ Trump began dealing with wealthy Jewish businessmen early in his career, he decided it would be expedient to drop the 'h' from his middle name Christ, so he, and subsequently Fred 2 and Fred 3, all became Frederick "Crist" Trump I,II and III.

PS: The author's deceased father - Fred 2 and also Donald's older brother - was expected to take over the Trump business empire but opted out, became an airline pilot and later died from alcoholism. Which is how Donny got his start.

Donald Trump is a hero, he personally went to Springfield to save the cats and managed to grab 100 pussies while he was there.

Donald Trump claimed without evidence Monday that President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris’ comments that he is a threat to democracy had inspired the latest apparent attempt on his life, despite his own long history of inflammatory campaign rhetoric and advocacy for jailing or prosecuting his political enemies.
...

The assassin's reasons Trump's perceived pro-Russian anti-Ukraine stance. In Ukraine recruiting, the assassin went from good intentions to bat-sh*t obsessed

It comes down to letting people with mental health problem getting hold of AK-47 style assault rifles.

So if Republicans are sticking with "you'll get my gun when you pry it from my cold dead fingers" maybe be a bit more relaxed toward "socialism" and fund low-cost mental health care.

The lives you're saving could be your own.
