Sensational.

Also - if you have a spare 15-20 minutes - the 100 worst things Trump has done since announcing his presidential bid in 2015:

https://newrepublic.com/article/187252/trump-100-worst-things-list-2015-2024

With the benefit of hindsight, one could argue that this one foretold what he was really going to be like as president:

78. Winks at Gun Owners to Kill Hillary Clinton

It seems almost quaint, in retrospect. These days, Trump blatantly encourages violence against his opponents, or promises to commit it himself, if elected. But in 2016, he was slightly more subtle—by his gutter-low standards, anyway. At a rally that August, he mused about Hillary Clinton, “If she gets to pick her judges, nothing you can do, folks,” then added: “Although the Second Amendment people—maybe there is, I don’t know.”—R.K.

And on it goes (mostly downhill) from there. Seriously, some of these are so ridiculous they're actual laugh-out-loud material - and yet they actually happened.

Amen. Check out Bill Maher (1m.36s) when he notes that Trump's behavior has been so deranged for so long that there's almost nothing he can do now that surprises anyone. It's almost as if he'd planned this strategy years ago, which is odd, because this would seem to require intelligence. Maybe animal cunning? Or the bedside Hitler Playbook?

Judge Aileen Cannon, who tossed Trump's classified docs case, on list of proposed candidates for attorney general: ABC News

A proposed personnel roster circulating within Donald Trump's campaign and transition operation lists Aileen Cannon, the federal judge who threw out Trump's classified documents case, as a possible candidate for attorney general, multiple sources familiar with the matter have told ABC News.

Cannon's name appears on a document reviewed by ABC News titled "Transition Planning: Legal Principals," which lists potential staffing for the White House counsel's office, the Department of Justice, the FBI, and U.S. attorneys' offices, as well as proposed candidates for the top legal positions within multiple government agencies, should Trump be reelected.

The document was drafted by Trump's top advisers with input from Boris Epshteyn, who oversees Trump's legal team and is one of Trump's most trusted advisers, sources familiar with the matter said.

Regarding his critique of Kamala "Perfect is the enemy of good" (Voltaire)

Though it's pointless to raise this, as anyone with a brain has decided their vote already.

It's ironic that law-and-order conservatives argue for "The Broken Windows Theory": visible signs of disorder, such as broken windows, graffiti, and vandalism, can encourage further crime and anti-social behavior. Rephrased as maintaining order by addressing minor offenses can prevent more serious crimes from occurring.

Just like a serial killer probably started by abusing animals, but likely slipped through the cracks, Trump didn't start with insert long list of Trump's serious crimes here.

Or in this story when confronted the angry mother theft, and her two sons:
  • This is funny. Why don’t you just take them all. Here you go, liberals.
Stolen Harris campaign yard signs frustrate Springfield residents. One couple tracked theirs down

With two weeks until the general election, signs supporting candidates or urging Springfieldians to vote "yes" or "no" on certain amendments are as plentiful as an autumn harvest.

So are reports of campaign sign theft, according to Cris Swaters, public affairs officer for the Springfield Police Department.

"We have seen an increase of reports of theft of political signs" since August, Swaters wrote in an email. Data on whether specific campaign signs were stolen more often than others was not immediately available.

Those who consider stealing signs should be aware that there are legal consequences. According to MO 115.637, which outlines "class four election offenses," stealing or willfully defacing, mutilating or destroying a campaign yard sign on private property could result in a fine up to $2,500, up to a year of imprisonment or both. Class four election offenses, according to the law, are misdemeanors.

"I would like people to stop stealing signs. I think they think by stealing signs, they're harming the Harris-Walz campaign or the Democratic Party," Johnston said. In reality, the sign thefts are resulting in more donations. "It's thousands and thousands of dollars."
...
Laura McCaskill said her Kamala Harris/Tim Walz campaign sign was stolen multiple times, so she and her partner John Cardoza attached an Apple AirTag to it. The AirTag allows iPhone users to track the tag with an app
...
it led them to two cars at a local restaurant, but Cardoza couldn't tell which one had the tag. On Sunday, after the Kansas City Chiefs game, the AirTag led them to a residence in Nixa, where they confronted the alleged thief.

They weren't expecting to find 60 Harris/Walz signs in the trunk of the car.

The thing about ignorant loud-mouthed morons is they make really stupid assertions because they think they know about things they don’t and can’t be bothered to actually find out. An excellent example of this is Trump’s comment about the supposed loyalty of Hitler’s generals, and his wish to have more like them.

A quick sweep through Wikipedia reveals that there were no fewer than at least 42(!) documented attempts to put Germany out of Hitler’s misery. Many involved German military officers of higher ranks, though not all were generals. At least a dozen probably were, though. These include Hans Oster in 1938, General der Gebirgstruppe Hubert Lanz and Generals Hans Speidel, Hyacinth Graf Strachwitz, and Paul Loehning in 1943, Field Marshal Günther von Kluge, Generalmajor Gersdorff and Generals Friedrich Olbricht and Henning von Tresckow. Of course everyone (except Trump, apparently) is familiar with the Tom Cruise film about the German officers' plot to terminate Hitler in 1944. It wasn’t through want of trying that they didn’t succeed.

If Trump does get in again (god forbid!), I fervently hope he does surround himself with generals as loyal as Hitler’s. He won’t last a day.

From the shocking revelations by The Atlantic about Donald Trump:
---------------
"Trump asked John Kelly, his chief of staff at the time, “Why can’t you be like the German generals?” Trump, at various points, had grown frustrated with military officials he deemed disloyal and disobedient.
...
"Trump told me that when Trump raised the subject of “German generals,” Kelly responded by asking, “‘Do you mean Bismarck’s generals?’

He went on: “I mean, I knew he didn’t know who Bismarck was, or about the Franco-Prussian War. I said, ‘Do you mean the kaiser’s generals? Surely you can’t mean Hitler’s generals? And he said, ‘Yeah, yeah, Hitler’s generals.’
---------------
On Fox News, host Brian Kilmeade spinning the story: “I can absolutely see him go, ‘You know what? It'd be great to have German generals that actually do what we ask them to do,

Maybe Trump's not fully being cognizant of the third rail of German generals who were Nazis or whatever.”
---------------
The phrase "third rail" is a US informal phrase meaning a subject considered by politicians to be too controversial to discuss.

So Fox News host Brian Kilmeade is saying perhaps Trump didn't realize it was controversial to want US generals who were like Nazi generals"

And interestingly, the Trump minions attacking Kelly (and anyone else who worked in Trump's last administration) make themselves look petty and pathetic by going on the attack:

https://www.thebulwark.com/p/the-sad-pathetic-spectacle-of-john

Should we add them to the roster of people who are speaking out against the orange buffoon, therefore (in his eyes) they're "them" or "the enemy"?

Are we supposed to believe that this is all about some personal tiff between Kelly and Trump when so many others have so many similar accounts?

When Trump’s former vice president, Mike Pence, told us that “the American people deserve to know that President Trump asked me to put him over my oath to the Constitution” on January 6th?

When James Mattis said Trump’s “use of the presidency to destroy trust in our election and to poison our respect for fellow citizens has been enabled by pseudo political leaders whose names will live in infamy as profiles in cowardice”?

When Mark Esper said Trump was “unfit for office,” and put “himself before country”?

When John Bolton warned that “this will be a retribution presidency”?

When Ty Cobb said Trump’s “conduct and mere existence have hastened the demise of democracy and of the nation”?

When Mark Milley called Trump “fascist to the core” and “the most dangerous person to this country”?

When Bill Barr said Trump “shouldn’t be anywhere near the Oval Office”?

Tha's insane. These people are crazy. From The Washington Post:

Trump, who avoided combat, accepts gift of Purple Heart from veteran
The gift came as Trump’s former chief of staff, John F. Kelly, confirmed reports that the former president had disparaged members of the military who died in combat, despite Trump’s denials.

A veteran gave his Purple Heart medal to Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump, who avoided the Vietnam War due to a medical exemption for bone spurs.

In a video shared on X by the former president, the veteran — who is identified by a campaign staffer as John Ford — tells Trump that he’s giving him the Purple Heart that he earned after being injured as thanks for the “great job you’ve done for our country” and for the “injuries” that Trump has received. The latter was likely a reference to the July assassination attempt against the former president, in which a bullet grazed his ear.

The Purple Heart, the military’s oldest award, is given to those wounded or posthumously to those killed. Ford presented the award to Trump backstage at his rally in Duluth, Georgia, on Wednesday, according to the video.

This is not the first time the former president received a veteran’s Purple Heart. Earlier this month, a Vietnam War veteran joined Trump on stage during a campaign event in Fayetteville, North Carolina, and presented him with his award.

The veteran — identified only as Dwight by the campaign — said he “couldn’t think of anybody more deserving to have a Purple Heart” following the assassination attempt against the former president.

freitasm: Trump, who avoided combat, accepts gift of Purple Heart from veteran

Purple Heart: a United States military decoration those wounded or killed while serving.

In a 2016 campaign rally Trump was given a soldier's awarded Purple Heart by a retired soldier.

Trump accepted the medal, stating to the crowd, "I always wanted to get the Purple Heart. This was much easier."

Back in October this year here's how he described US soldiers injured with traumatic brain injuries by missiles fired by Iran striking a US fort.

"What does 'injured' mean? Injured means because they had a headache because the bombs never hit the fort," Trump replied.

The NY Times - Trump Says He’ll Fire Jack Smith, Special Counsel Who Indicted Him, if He Wins Again

24 Oct 2024

Former President Donald J. Trump said on Thursday that if elected again he would in “two seconds” fire the special counsel Jack Smith, who has brought two federal indictments against him in the past 18 months.

Mr. Trump, who has been charged by Mr. Smith with plotting to overturn his 2020 election loss and illegally holding on to classified material after leaving office, made the comments in an interview with the conservative radio host Hugh Hewitt less than two weeks before Election Day.

No surprises there, then.

I'm still backing Smith.  ☺️
