Kyanar:

We, as New Zealanders, did, too. The NACT government got up and did—actually, what? I'm pretty sure it's nothing. Given their platform, I'm just saying I'm OK with them doing nothing.

Not nothing, they've repealed virtually everything the previous two governments managed to achieve, and they are revelling in it. They have also openly made or are making decisions 100% in favour of industries that have donated to them such as mining, fishing and tobacco. I'm shocked they even bothered to slow down the Fast Track bill enough to put in a tissue-paper fig leaf of separation between their political directions and the outcomes of the process by taking the ministers out as the final deciders. They shat on the poor kids, (though to be fair they gave the landlord underclass a big tax cut), and have now begun the attack on Te Tiriti in earnest.

I don't think anyone can credibly accuse them of doing nothing. If this handbasket had an engine, it would red-lining.

How is Trump not pulling lowers percentages in the US? Look at the comedian that spoke first to warm up the crowd at Trump's New York rally.

Referring to Puerto Rico as "Puerto Rica" is a disrespectful and dismissive dog whistle. In Spanish, the linguistic term for assigning gender to nouns is grammatical gender. "Rico" is the correct masculine noun. "Rica" is intentionally using the wrong feminine form. (masculine peso means money, feminine pesa means weight)

On a different subject If "black buddies" and "watermelons" joke below seems peculiar, then you've led a good life.

This trope emerged shortly after the civil war and the emancipation of slaves. Freed African Americans farmers began to be loosely associated with selling watermelons.

However, white Southerner racists combined watermelons and black farmers as a dog whistle.

The trope of white people in black face with watermelons (and chickens) became popular in minstrel shows, postcards, and advertisements.

It still persists with AI generated thumbnails like this

As Trump courts their vote, comedian at his rally makes racist jokes about Latinos and Puerto Rico: NBC News

As former President Donald Trump courts the community’s vote, comedian Tony Hinchcliffe crudely mocked Latinos — a key constituency for any winning campaign in 2024 — during preprogramming for the former president’s Madison Square Garden rally.
...
Hinchcliffe, taking the first slot among nearly 30 warmup speakers, launched into a crude and disparaging set of jokes about the conflict in the Middle East, Black voters and Latinos.

“These Latinos, they love making babies, too. Just know that they do,” Hinchcliffe said, setting up his joke: “There’s no pulling out. They don’t do that. They come inside, just like they did to our country.”

A few moments later, the comedian took a second swing at a key voting bloc within the community: Puerto Ricans.

“There’s a lot going on. I don’t know if you guys know this, but there’s literally a floating island of garbage in the middle of the ocean right now. I think it’s called Puerto Rica,” sic he said to a scattering of claps and jeers.
...
Hinchcliffe also told a joke about one of his Black “buddies” and how they “carved watermelons” together.

A number of the opening speakers at the Madison Square Garden rally threw around vulgarities and demeaning comments about Vice President Kamala Harris and other Democratic politicians. Radio host Sid Rosenberg called Hillary Clinton "a sick son of a b----" and David Rem, a Trump backer in New York City, said Harris was the "Antichrist."

Backlash from Puerto Rican voters over Trump's rally jokes about Puerto Ricans.

There are more U.S. citizens of Puerto Rican origin living in the United States than there are people living in Puerto Rico.

As of 2021, there were approximately 5.8 million people of Puerto Rican origin in the United States, compared to around 3.3 million people living in Puerto Rico

Has there been any update by the DOJ on possible prosecution for the far right extremists on YT etc who have been found to have been funded by Rus.

It seems convenient Trump has been leaning into these podcasters.

If you can't stomach watching his horrific, hate-soaked rally (I know I definitely couldn't) here's a high-level overview:

https://whowhatwhy.org/opinion/did-trump-supporters-not-realize-there-were-cameras-at-hate-filled-nyc-rally/

Longer summary here:

https://www.msn.com/en-us/news/politics/trump-s-new-york-homecoming-sparks-backlash-over-racist-and-vulgar-remarks/ar-AA1t1RgH?cvid=0936ed61ad584a83e43cbaab2b36d5f4&ei=9

What appalls me is so many Americans now think this disgusting hate speech is now acceptable and even encourage it.

When and how (and even why) did they get this way? It's shocking.

Is anyone else struck by Trump's apparent weight? He has always been over but now he looks really fat to me, especially side-on views at his New York rally.

Take a step backwards to see the most shocking aspect: It's a human condition. All these millions of Trump supporters are just ordinary people. Sure, a few might be genuinely mentally deranged, but the bulk are ordinary folk. The only way they differ from us is that they've allowed Trump to get into their heads. Oddly, they could easily turn on the guy. And probably will if he gets into power and his actions wreck their lives. Regardless, Trump won't survive this election if he wins. Too many powerful Republicans want a leader they can control. Like Vance, or any of several others.

Agreed. And long may he continue to ingest. Every 1 pound of fat requires 1 mile of capillaries. (Or 720 metres of capillaries per kilogram)
