That guy is such a waste of oxygen IMO, but I guess there's no accounting for taste.

I wonder if he'll have a job in the orange buffoon's new cabinet? I remember he (briefly) had something last time. Maybe he'll just end up getting a pardon and not have to go to court instead 🙄

Just waiting until massive "compensation" payments get made to the "victims" like Bannon....and Trump himself ($1-2 Billion for the witch hunts...)
I am guessing YUGE space contracts will go to Musk.

Privatisation of many government tasks (efficiency ...) will I am sure have huge kickbacks.
Criminals will be running the US government and they will be lining their nests at every step.

If anyone thinks the mid terms will solve anything....ROTFLMAO, there is no way Republicans will allow that to happen.
Remember the words "This will be the last election you will need to vote in"...

I wish MAGA would stop trying to gather liberal tears, and smite all opposition, and make an attempt to govern.

It would make comedians jobs harder, but would help achieve the blessed American founding fathers ideals of life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.

The NY Times - Gaetz, Gabbard and Hegseth: Trump’s Picks Are a Show of Force   [free unlocked link]

13 Nov 2024

Read this article - it's hard to summarize.

excepts:

These are so appalling they’re a form of performance art,” Michael Waldman, the president of the Brennan Center for Justice, said in an interview, reflecting on Mr. Trump’s choices and their fitness for their jobs. ...

He’s going to pick people who are conservative, who are Republicans,” Mr. Waldman said. ... "But these choices seem designed to poke the Senate in the eye.

and

Timothy L. O’Brien, a longtime biographer of Mr. Trump, said that the selections are his way of ensuring loyalty to him above competence for the role.

He prizes loyalty above competence, atmospherics above expertise, and buffoonery above maturity. He values that at the expense of almost everything else, other than his own survival.

It just got worse:

The NY Times - Trump wants Kennedy to lead Health and Human Services Dept.

breaking

Here’s the latest on the next administration.

After saying that he would let Robert F. Kennedy Jr. “go wild on health,” President-elect Donald J. Trump said Thursday that he would nominate him to lead the Health and Human Services Department, positioning a vocal skeptic of vaccines to wield significant influence over public health policy.

Mr. Kennedy’s resistance to public health measures, embrace of alternative medicine and natural foods and dissemination of false information about vaccines - including that they cause autism - suggests he would openly clash with the agencies he would oversee.

EDIT :  Kennedy seems to have been chosen precisely for his hostility to the values of the organization he’s supposed to lead.

“Never interrupt your enemy when he is making a mistake” Napoleon Bonaparte

All Americans will notice rather quickly. All lower and middle class Americans, including young trailer trash to old retired conservatives, will feel the pain.

The damage from America's stupidity is inevitable.

In the long term, my greatest worry is Trump will die before his term ends, and JD Vance will become president. I believe Vance will bypass the landmines that Trump seems to actively seek. Thus doing deeper damage than Trump.

Imagine if Robert F. Kennedy Jr. had 'gone wild on health' during the COVID pandemic - another million Americans would have died - that's a lot of damage.  😦

It is actually quite scary imagining James as president - unlike Trump, he is vaguely competent, or at least he appears to be.

Vance will be far more easily contained/controlled by the Heritage Foundation than Trump.

They will throw Trump under the bus, make him the scapegoat for everything that people do not like.
It will be easy given his mental decline to section 25 him when it suits them best.

The NY Times - Trump picks Todd Blanche, his defense lawyer, to be deputy attorney general.

breaking

President-elect Donald J. Trump said on Thursday that he would name Todd Blanche, who oversaw his legal defense against multiple indictments, to become the No. 2 official at the Justice Department.

The selection of Mr. Blanche, a former supervising federal prosecutor in Manhattan, as the deputy attorney general at the Justice Department serves as a pointed rebuke to the criminal cases against him.

Good grief!  😏

You guys have got to watch 'Civil War'. And when the end credits roll you'll be feeling much better, I promise!

You've cracked the formula with that one.

I'm not that concerned about him.  One of the basic rules of a dictatorship is that you make sure that there's no-one even remotely capable of being a threat to you around, and that all the second bananas are kept in constant conflict with each other jockeying for power and trying to get your attention.  When the dictatorship collapses it goes completely to pieces.

The best-studied example is in 1945 but there have been many other dictatorships where El Jefe made sure that there was no-one who could pose any kind of threat to him around, which meant things dissolved into factionalism and backstabbing when he exited the scene.  In an organised political party when the leader goes the second banana takes over.  In the Trump toady circus that the Republicans have turned into I can't see Vance being able to control the other toadies, or in fact anyone being able to step up to run things in Trump's place.  By design.

Imagine what it must be like inside Trump's head. Something like Dante's Nine Circles of Hell - Limbo, Lust, Gluttony, Greed, Wrath, Heresy, Violence, Fraud, Treachery - combined in one.

Another sign of these Trump-induced times: My wife and I watch a lot of TV shows and over the least few years we've noticed a new factor that's being added to many scenarios - heroines have begun to lie. Two shows where this is especially obvious is 'Matlock' and the latest version of 'The Day Of The Jackal'. The lead in Matlock is Kathy Bates. She plays a 'sweet little old lady' retired lawyer who lies her way into a powerful law firm to investigate the death of her daughter. Justified lies? Maybe, but they wouldn't have been so blatant and frequent in TV shows ten years ago. The female lead in 'Jackal', supposedly one of the good guys pursuing Jackal, is an even worse liar, with one collection of her untruths leading to the death of an innocent young woman.

The younger among you might be saying, 'So effing what?' And that's precisely my point. Trump has normalized lying. What's next?
