I'm not that concerned about him.  One of the basic rules of a dictatorship is that you make sure that there's no-one even remotely capable of being a threat to you around, and that all the second bananas are kept in constant conflict with each other jockeying for power and trying to get your attention.  When the dictatorship collapses it goes completely to pieces.

True. But but without Lord Lardo they'll be as effective as headless chooks.

The NY Times - Trump Takes On the Pillars of the ‘Deep State’   [free unlocked link]

14 Nov 2024

President-elect Donald J. Trump is wasting little time in taking on the three governmental institutions that most frustrated his political ambitions during his first term and making clear he will not brook resistance in his second. ...

If confirmed, Mr. Gaetz, Mr. Hegseth and Ms. Gabbard would constitute the lead shock troops in Mr. Trump’s self-declared war on what he calls the “deep state.”

All three have echoed his conviction that government is seeded with career public servants who actively thwarted his priorities while he was in office and targeted him after he left.

None of them has the kind of experience relevant to these jobs comparable to predecessors of either party, but they can all be expected to take “a blowtorch” to the status quo, to use Stephen K. Bannon’s term for Mr. Gaetz. ...

Worth reading - hard to summarise.  🤨

They all need to be confirmed by the Senate though, don't they? What I'm reading (about Gaetz, at least) is that he very much has an uphill climb for that to happen.

Thank Christ Bannon isn't going to be a part of things this time around (I hope).

When a U.S. president selects a nominee for a Cabinet position, the nominee must be confirmed by the Senate. This is a constitutional requirement outlined in Article II, Section 2, which states that the President "shall nominate, and by and with the Advice and Consent of the Senate, shall appoint...all other Officers of the United States."

The Senate's confirmation process involves hearings, committee reviews, and a full Senate vote. This process ensures that the nominees are vetted and approved by a majority of the Senate before they can officially assume their roles.

Trump has not nominated a U.S. Secretary of the Treasury yet. I

'm betting it's going to be "MyPillow" CEO Mike Lindell. He's effectively bankrupt. He was ordered by a judge to pay $5 million to a computer programmer who disproved his outlandish accusations of voter fraud, had his commercial credit line cut by 90 percent, and continues to fight multibillion-dollar defamation suits by Dominion Voting Systems and Smartmatic, America’s largest voting machine companies, over his false allegations they aided and abetted massive electoral fraud. Last month, he was sued by a California vendor for allegedly skipping out on invoices in the mid-six-figures.

He recently files RICO (crime syndicate) lawsuit against lending companies to try and get out of allegedly ‘usurious’ $600K loan.

He seems over-qualified for a Trump cabinet position.

Query, with all these, uh, "out-there" picks for various cabinet roles, if the orange buffoon can't get some (or any) of them confirmed by the Senate, what happens? Does whoever is doing the role now (I presume someone Joe put in there) just carry on doing the role until they can sort it out? Or does the current person finish after inauguration day, and then Trump puts someone temporary in?

Another sign that democracy in the US is dying, and Trump may be correct when he states that this election was the last one anyone would need to vote in.

Various articles have come out that anything related to Musk is making huge financial gains.

This includes a huge number of advertisers returning to "X"/Twitter.

So I guess Coca-Cola is going back in history when their ads will inevitably appear on Nazi-ads.

In 1940, Coca-Cola was the undisputed soft drink king of Nazi Germany. According to legend, there's a photo in the Coke archives of military leader Hermann Göring chugging a bottle of Coca-Cola. Hitler was rumored to enjoy the caffeinated beverage while watching American movies like Gone with the Wind.
