Frustrated Washington Post reporters reveal how many subscribers have canceled

So we are now, in Jan, up to 300,000 subscription cancellations, which is up from 250,000 in October.

2.5m (current) x 29/yr (subscription fee) = $72.5m + 29/yr x 300,000 (lost Subs) = 8,700,000m loss (please correct my maths if needed)

You would think he would be welcoming the $115,000 for that advert.

Though the share price is still fairly good at 979.30. It has been rocky for him since then, but overall climb. So hard to say what the shareholders are thinking.

DOGE:
D'upe
O'n the hook,
G'ullible
E'asy mark

We finally know who’s legally running DOGE: The Verge

You are now better informed than a Department of Justice lawyer yesterday.

The White House has named Amy Gleason as the acting administrator of the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE). The news, delivered by an unnamed White House official to CNBC and other media outlets, follows days of obfuscation in courtrooms, the press, and the pseudo-department itself. It designates Gleason a likely target for the nigh-continuous legal challenges over DOGE’s access to sensitive data and freezing of government funds — while potentially shielding its high-level leader Elon Musk.
...

Earlier today, White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt refused to name a formal administrator for the group. “I am not going to reveal the name of that individual from this podium,” Leavitt said, telling reporters she would be “happy to follow up” later to provide it.
...
Little is known about her official role and said even employees weren’t sure who was supposed to be in charge.

The government has been cagey about who formally runs DOGE while leaving little doubt about who’s in charge. Leavitt and others have repeatedly identified Musk as overseeing DOGE’s overall operation. At the same time, they’ve denied that he has any formal association with it, saying he’s merely a special government employee serving as an advisor.
...
Numerous state attorneys general and private actors argue that DOGE is operating illegally, while the government seeks to insulate Musk and avoid naming anyone the challengers could sue. A February 17th court filing asserted that Musk had “no actual or formal authority” in DOGE. Later, in a hearing on February 24th, Department of Justice lawyer Bradley Humphreys told Judge Colleen Kollar-Kotelly that he didn’t know if anyone led the organization at all.

“Is there an administrator of DOGE at the present time?” Kollar-Kotelly asked.

“I don’t know the answer to that,” Humphreys replied.

Comparable to Abraham Lincoln’s Gettysburg Address, the dedication of the Soldiers' National Cemetery, is when Trump discovers 'groceries' on the campaign trail

From an unusual source: Fox news.

Word of the day: "apoplectic": overcome with anger; furious. "Elon Musk was apoplectic with rage at being called not funny."

congressman is among Republicans pushing for popular programs like Medicaid and Medicare to also go on the chopping block, despite opinion polls showing that the U.S. public wants the government to spend more on the programs and that cutting them would be deeply unpopular.

At town hall, Missouri congressman tells apoplectic crowd, ‘God has a plan’: Fox News

U.S. Representative Mark Alford of Missouri drew the ire of his constituents earlier this week while fielding questions about President Donald Trump and advisor Elon Musk’s plans to slash federal jobs.

Dozens of people attended Rep. Alford’s informal town hall on Monday at Random’s Coffee in Belton, Missouri; most had to stand outside. The meeting lasted approximately 90 minutes, according to a report.

Alford was peppered with questions from some who’ve lost their government jobs, while others expressed concern or contempt over cuts to federal agencies and potential tariffs.

The congressman defended the actions of the president and his hand-picked efficiency guru, Elon Musk, much to the chagrin of the assembled crowd, many of whom responded with jeers and boos.

He cautioned people who recently lost their federal job that it “doesn’t mean it’s a lifetime appointment like a Supreme Court [justice].” He attempted to mollify the crowd that “God has a plan and purpose for your life.”

Some more video from the event here. Some of these people are actually quite angry: https://www.nbcnews.com/video/overflow-crowd-confronts-missouri-rep-alford-over-trump-policies-232893509507

I wonder if this guy will win again at his next election? In fact, I wonder if a lot of Republicans who have had to defend the orange buffoon/Musk's random scattergun job cuts are going to vote for the Republicans next time?

Sure, Joe was an older guy - but hell, at least he didn't take your job away from you.

https://projects.fivethirtyeight.com/polls/approval/donald-trump/

Looks like the orange buffoon started out okay-ish, but those numbers are dropping off quite rapidly - and we're only in what? Week 4?

This looks even worse ( https://abcnews.go.com/538/americans-voted-trump-support-agenda/story?id=119136603 )

Take a look at those DOGE approval numbers - if I was him, I'd be starting to get a little concerned, at least; midterms aren't that far away now.

kingdragonfly: Here's the 'Fire Elon Musk' Ad the Washington Post Refuses to Run: Common Dreams

The linked full wrapper ad is definitely not subtle:

I'm not at all sure that the ad dept under the previous owner would have accepted something of that nature for publication.

He certainly does, except he forgot to specify which god it was.  The one he was probably referring to is currently asleep in R'lyeh, but will no doubt return soon when the stars are right.

I now know why people are in such a hurry with MAGA. They are probably expecting a rapid mental decline of the presidential puppet and they want to establish everything in the USA beforehand so that the successor doesn't have to make himself unpopular with the people. 😈

The NY Times - Trump Administration Live Updates: Trump and Vance Loudly Rebuke Zelensky in Oval Office

breaking

Tempers flare and voices are raised in a remarkably fractious meeting.

President Trump and Vice President JD Vance loudly berated President Volodymyr Zelensky of Ukraine on Friday in an explosive televised shouting match unlike any seen in the Oval Office between an American president and foreign leader in modern times.

Mr. Trump and Mr. Vance castigated Mr. Zelensky for not being grateful enough for U.S. support in its war with Russia and sought to strong-arm him into making a peace deal on whatever terms the Americans dictate. With voices raised and tempers flaring, Mr. Trump threatened to abandon Ukraine altogether if Mr. Zelensky did not go along.

Talking over the Ukrainian leader, Mr. Vance told Mr. Zelensky that it was “disrespectful” for him to come to the Oval Office and make his case in front of the American news media and demanded that he thank Mr. Trump for his leadership. Mr. Trump jumped in and told the Ukrainian leader, “You’re not really in a good position right now” and that “you’re gambling with World War III.”

“You’re either going to make a deal or we’re out,” Mr. Trump added. “And if we’re out, you’ll fight it out and I don’t think it’s going to be pretty.”

Putin will be very pleased with Mad King Donald.  😟

In the Washington Post, during a southern gubernatorial race, Republican candidate Ed Gillespie ran advertisements linking his opponent to violent gangs like MS-13.

It was much, much worse the "Fire Elon Musk", considering that Elon Musk is unelected.

The print ad has more or less disappeared from everywhere, for good reason, but a screen snapshot from the video still remains.

I think a little humour may not go astray this morning - no doubt next week we'll see the cartoons on the Trump/Zelensky/James, uh, "discussions" this morning. But for now:

The MAGA voting regret I was referring to earlier:

This one is harsh/accurate (moreso after overnight conversations):

(With this last one, I actually had some MAGA fanboy send me something similar during the orange buffoon's first term - obviously a self-written list - to try and justify what a great president he thought he was):

Just a reminder of Trump's campaign promises

"They’re dying, Russians and Ukrainians. I want them to stop dying. And I’ll have that done — I’ll have that done in 24 hours.”

“If we had a real president, a president that knew — that was respected by Putin ... he would have never invaded Ukraine.”

Trump loves dictators, and even called Zelenskyy a dictator, but his temper tantrum would never happen with a dictator.

He never yelled down Kim Jong Un about conceivably staring world war 3, even though Kim actively pursues nuclear tipped ICBM's.

Trump on Kim "We fell in love. No really. He wrote me beautiful letters, and they’re great letters. We fell in love."

"I like him. He likes me. We get along. He’s a smart guy, he’s a tough guy, he’s a great negotiator."

"We have developed a very special bond."

Trump's ambush on Zelenskyy goes horribly wrong

That was a political mugging on national television.  It barely escaped being an actual mugging. They took turns at holding him down and stabbing him.

Zelensky showed an incredible level of control, even as someone who knows his choices are extremely limited.

I hope I don't live long enough to see something like that ever again.

It is all about money and prestige for Trump. NOT about the suffering of Ukrainians and Russians. Nor is it about the political and environmental stability of this planet.

Just the money and prestige for Trump ‼️

😡🤬😖
