LONDON, March 1 (Reuters) - British Prime Minister Keir Starmer greeted President Volodymyr Zelenskiy with a warm embrace on Saturday after the Ukrainian leader flew to London for talks following his clash at the White House with U.S. President Donald Trump.

 

In an extraordinary Oval Office meeting on Friday, Trump threatened to withdraw support for Ukraine, three years after Russia invaded its smaller neighbour.

 

In London, a crowd cheered as Zelenskiy arrived for talks with Starmer at his Downing Street office before a summit of European leaders that the Ukrainian president will attend on Sunday to discuss a peace plan for Ukraine.

 

 

Note that Reuters was barred from the preceding White House Trump show.  🙄

The Securities and Exchange Commission pauses court proceedings against the Trump billionaire associate Justin Sun:

 

Gizmodo:, Sun “invested” $30 million into WLF [World Liberty Financial]. It pushed the coin into the threshold it needed to release cash into Trump’s pocket and netted the President around $18 million. Sun came on to WLF as an advisor. Then he dumped another $45 million into the company. According to Bloomberg, that means Trump has received around $56 million in total “fees” from Sun related to WLF"

 

The SEC and Justin Sun and are negotiating a settlement and dropping charges is usually some part of that negotiation. The Gizmodo article is based on a paywalled Bloomberg article. The SEC filing states it is pausing prosecution in "the interests of both sides and the public". Donald Trump, Donald Trump Jr, Eric Trump and Barron Trump all have roles in the company.

But what prompted the final blowup was, precisely, a reasonable question from Zelensky about an essential part of any peace deal: security guarantees. After Vance pompously declared that “what makes America a good country is America engaging in diplomacy” rather than Joe Biden-style chest-thumping, Zelensky asked for permission to respond (so much for his supposed rudeness!) and then described all the previous agreements Russia had signed and broken between 2014 and 2022. Finally, he asked, “What kind of diplomacy, JD, you are speaking about?” Vance, who obviously had no good answer to these points, snippily replied that it was “the kind of diplomacy that’s going to end the destruction of your country.” Vance then chided Zelensky for being “disrespectful.” Things went downhill from there, with Vance berating Zelensky for forcibly conscripting soldiers and—in response to Zelensky’s invitation to visit Ukraine and see its fight with his own eyes—for conducting “propaganda tours.”

 

Maybe James just shouldn't have been in the room 🤔

 

Also, I don't think Zelensky should be apologising for anything - he didn't start the fire!

Thats exactly it.

 

Security, nah not important, thats 2%, do it later

 

Trump is firing left right and centre, nationally and globally. (USAID etc) UKR is a cost, so lets do a deal, the greatest deal so that I am a winner, Putin gets to keep his new territory. Sell UKR out so we get the $, i.de minerals deal. As I made a deal ,Putin will agree, it wont go sour (as it always has) and if it does its someone else's fault, so not his fault, and no support from the US, which aligns with his many saving ideas, and his money making ideas (tariffs which move money from US citizens to the US Treasury, i.e. a new tax) and many other cuts

 

EU needs to step up as I mentioned when this hit. And they are. Trump will tell you that the uS was far more financially involved that EU. Fact is, last 3 years USA put in 150B. EU nations put in 180B. While its a huge loss if USA pulls out, its hopefully a workable loss. Trump has said the US will still support UKR but thats based on his deal which sells UKR to Putin and Trump. Deal done, Im great, Im Art of the Deal. Putins attacks and gains yet more illegal territory. No reparations. China free to chime in in Taiwan.

 

In past wars many nations stepped up, feet on the ground and in the air. Why not now?

Agree, no one is. The world order is changing. Good vs Evil doesnt matter now. We need to fight Evil. Its about lives or its about a deal that gives a very very clear precedent that bullys win

Yeah the day one is hyperbole, no one took that seriously, but it does mean "soon". Soon could be a week, a month , 3 months, all good. But when you seal the art of the deal with a cut throat deal that cuts down the victim, thats an issue. It failed in the Oval Office. EU will take it on.They need to use EU air power IMHO

Zelensky would have been better off if he just spoke in Russian then any confusion could be blamed on the interpreter.

 

Trump would have been absolutely swept off his feet hearing Russian, more so than Macron's French accent.
