neb:

Did anyone actually listen to the whole thing? I stopped when it started sounding like a Fox segment.

Nope, I did try really hard though. But by the time it hit Alex Jones' levels of "pedophile democrats and FBI are protecting pedophile former Twitter management who encouraged pedophilia and radical Muslim terrorist content on Twitter at the expense of right-wing satire" it lost the entertainment factor and started being annoying, so I quit.

The Hill: Musk fires back after criticism of gender pronouns tweet about Fauci

Twitter CEO Elon Musk fired back on Sunday night after facing backlash for tweeting that his pronouns are “Prosecute/Fauci” earlier in the day, a reference to chief White House adviser Anthony Fauci.

“Elon, please don’t mock and promote hate toward already marginalized and at-risk-of-violence members of the #LGBTQ+ community,” astronaut Scott Kelly, the twin brother of Sen. Mark Kelly (D-Ariz.), responded to Musk’s tweet. “They are real people with real feelings. Furthermore, Dr Fauci is a dedicated public servant whose sole motivation was saving lives.”
..
Multiple Republicans, including Sen. Rand Paul (Ky.) and Rep. Jim Jordan (Ohio), have pressed Fauci on whether the National Institutes of Health has ever funded gain-of-function research at the Wuhan Institute of Virology, a claim Fauci has said is “entirely and completely incorrect,” as part of the Republicans’ claims that the COVID-19 virus escaped from a lab in Wuhan, China.
...
Musk’s Sunday evening tweet is the latest attack against the nation’s top infectious diseases doctor, who plans to step down from his government roles later this month.

the Daily Beast: Jimmy Kimmel Schools Elon Musk on Comedy After ‘Terrible’ Fauci Joke

Jimmy Kimmel decided to stay away from Elon Musk’s embarrassing cameo at Dave Chappelle’s stand-up show over the weekend, but he did have a lot to say about what the Twitter CEO had posted earlier that morning.

“He seems to be intent on filling the troll hole vacated by Donald Trump,” the late-night host said before sharing Musk’s tweet that read “My pronouns are Prosecute/Fauci.”

Which, on top of being small-minded, lowest common denominator garbage and spreading false and dangerous conspiracy theories against a doctor who works for our good,” Kimmel shot back, “is also just a terrible joke.”

Kimmel compared the tweet to a joke created by artificial intelligence, saying, “it doesn’t make any sense, the structure’s wrong, it doesn’t rhyme with anything relevant, there are too many syllables, it’s exactly the kind of joke you’d expect from a guy who named his son X Æ A-12 after the bottom row of an eye chart.”

From there, he told a story about a guy who came up to him over the weekend and asked, “You got no love for Elon, bro?”—presumably after watching one of his previous monologues on the billionaire.

“I said, ‘no, I don’t, but it’s not just Elon specifically,’” he explained. “I have a problem with any richest man in the world who comes to this country to casually slander a doctor who devoted his entire life to protecting our children from HIV and COVID and Zika and swine flu and Ebola while you’re off playing grab-ass with Trump and firing rockets into space to prove your penis works.”

“So the answer is, as long as he’s attacking and spreading lies about decent Americans who have been doing his best to protect the world since before this vomit casserole was born, I got no love for Elon, bro.”

CYaBro: And for the other side of the coin, some praise for Elon in the MSM.

Rob Wiesenthal will soon be looking for a job.

His Blade startup lost 2/3 of its value since IPO back in May, hitting about $13 right after launch and gradually dropping to below $5 just a year and a half later. I think I can see a new Twitter CEO in the making. Just let Blade run out of funds first.

The New York Times has some more detail on how he's doing that - Twitter has stopped paying rent to its office lessors, employees have been directed to stop paying vendors entirely, HR has discussed reneging on paying severance packages to employees they've laid off, and they've also refused to pay the fees for use of the corporate jet.

Strangely enough if he can buy time Musk can win eventually, the tide might come in.

Marketing studies will emphasise the strength of 'Brand', 'Brand Recognition' etc.
The number of old consumer brands that are effectively renting out the name and such.

Internet does seem to end up in focusing services onto few vendors.
So you end up with a few browsers, a few search engines, etc.

Even Ukraine news despite how Musk has been, seems to often point to Twitter links.
There have also been warnings about security of Twitter and TicTok.

So moving to an alternative seems to be hard even if there is incentive to do so.
There seems to be considerable value in a service that you can't drop when it craps on you.

I suppose the Twitter brand has potential to rescue Musk from any damage he does.
It is cutting costs, even if it is in the worst most chaotic way.
Given time to rebuild, suitable management to do real work under Musk while he goes off to grandstand other things later.

Providing the investors are willing to wait while its deconstructed and reconstructed.
Depending on his deals with 'bonesaw people', 'Thiel-lites?' and others who have spare liquid wealth and patience.

They may have their own endgame, if that investment is secured by Musks share of other companies?
Is that enough to buy enough time?

Theranos, and SBF(FTX) seem to show that you can acquire billions to 'play with' .
If you are a great busker and tell a story people 'want to believe' , and keep it up hoping the 'ship comes in'.

From my perspective the alternate is nothing.  I used to have a twitter membership.  I eventually decided that it was toxic and served no useful purpose in my life.  So id deleted it.  I never had facebook because at one stage I got an impression of them having an unending sequence of widely reported security gaffs, and that impression never left me.

I haven't heard the term "bonesaw people" before. I assume it's a reference the assassination of Jamal Khashoggi?

I'm confused. Elon views on fusion are constantly changing.

Recently he said "Fusion would be expensive energy, given difficulty of obtaining and transporting source fuel, plus maintaining the reactor"

Then retracted that statement by saying "Fusion is the future"

Are you referring to the fusion breakthrough today at Livermore? Musk wasn't involved

Youtube: Bill Nye explains why nuclear fusion breakthrough is a big deal

For the first time in history, US scientists at the National Ignition Facility at the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory in California successfully produced a nuclear fusion reaction resulting in a net energy gain. Science educator Bill Nye explains why this is such a big breakthrough

New York Times: Scientists Achieve Nuclear Fusion Breakthrough With Blast of 192 Lasers

Scientists studying fusion energy at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory in California announced on Tuesday that they had crossed a long-awaited milestone in reproducing the power of the sun in a laboratory.

That sparked public excitement as scientists have for decades talked about how fusion, the nuclear reaction that makes stars shine, could provide a future source of bountiful energy.

The result announced on Tuesday is the first fusion reaction in a laboratory setting that actually produced more energy than it took to start the reaction.

Yeh, 'bonesaw people' was that reference.

Key backers for the Twitter deal.
https://www.forbes.com/sites/mattdurot/2022/10/31/saudi-prince-alwaleed-becomes-twitters-second-largest-shareholder/?sh=298a26d5523a

Prince Alwaleed once a staunch opponent to Musk buying Twitter, then quickly changed his mind.
Rumour was maybe MBS had a role? 'Your Leverage is My Leverage'.

Sequoia Capital is one of Peter Thiel's, apparently, he has collected more citizenships.
VyCapital is an odd one, big positions in Boring Company and Neuralink :-0

Some of the Banks backing the deal are already booking losses.
Maybe there is some tax advantage to be had.

Musk achieving Fusion, could be the sheer power of his Brillance.
Just a bit of residual radiation where he 'was' standing.

Once you account for the energy that goes into the lasers you still have a problem.
Megajoule lasers seem to be terribly inefficient.
""
In the latest experiment, researchers pumped in 2.05 megajoules of laser energy and got about 3.15MJ out – a roughly 50% gain
""
the calculation does not include the 300 or so megajoules needed to power up the lasers
""
ITER has a crack in it so further delays.

Hey ho only another 25 years ?

Humour is lost on some people.

Poe's law: without a clear indicator of the author's intent, any parody of extreme views can be mistaken by some readers for a sincere expression of the views being parodied.

The reply by Nathan Poe read:

"Without a winking smiley or other blatant display of humor, it is utterly impossible to parody a Creationist in such a way that someone won't mistake for the genuine article."

I have always felt that if something has to be tagged as 'humorous', it probably isn't. Humour explained is humour gutted.
