Draft-Dodging ‘Peace President’ to Register Boys for Military Draft at 18
DOUBLE STANDARDS
Trump is looking to sign teenagers up for the same national duty he wriggled out of five times.

So, we can automatically register all 18 year old citizens for the draft, but registering to vote requires proof of citizenship, photo ID, appearing in person, etc?  Why aren't all citizens automatically registered to vote at 18?  They've just admitted they know who is who.

USA already has that draft system. USA male citizens between 18 and 25 are already required to register. In practice it is kind of loose. Registration is required as a prerequisite for a lot of other things and people do tend to register, eventually. The article might already explain that already but it's behind a wall for me.

The new thing is definitely a step backwards.

Here's a news source I never thought I'd post, but shows how far removed Trump and the Defense War department's have moved into insanity.

In the blood-thirsty War department's defense, there's is a denial from the Pentagon. The article is also based on anonymous sourcing. But given the Pope's recent cancelling of American events, it rings true. Again the cancellation is based on anonymous Vatican sources.

However multiple outlets all report the same core claim, the threat from Under Secretary of War Colby

Here's some translation from your friendly atheist.

As a background the "Avignon papacy" is a medieval period when popes held papal court in France. Once in France, the papacy became wealthy, corrupt, and politically entangled by the French rulers.

The first sentence of the article below is confusing:

In the article: "Today, we view the papacy as a pastoral, not a princely role. Yet questions about boundaries between ecclesial and temporal power remain."

in English: "Today, people expect the pope to be a spiritual leader, not a political ruler. But there are still debates about where the church’s religious authority ends and where political authority begins."

In the article: “Behind closed doors, Under Secretary of War Colby threatened the pope's ambassador, reminding him of the power of the U.S. army, and telling him that the church ‘had better take its side.’ As part of his threat, he invoked the Avignon papacy.”

in English: “Under Secretary of War Colby said 'The U.S. military is powerful. You should support the U.S. government. If you don’t, remember what happened when the church got too cozy with political powers in the past like during the Avignon Papacy.'”

What was the Avignon papacy?: U.S. Catholic

Pope Leo XIV has been speaking forcefully and persistently against the United States’ military actions in Iran, addressing not just war in the abstract, but the specific actions of the Donald Trump administration. And now a report from The Free Press has revealed that in January, Under Secretary of War for Policy Elbridge Colby summoned Cardinal Christophe Pierre, then the Vatican’s ambassador to the United States, to the Pentagon. Behind closed doors, Colby threatened the ambassador, reminding him of the power of the U.S. army, and telling him that the church “had better take its side.” As part of his threat, he invoked the Avignon papacy.

The tale of the Avignon popes of the fourteenth century is instructive for this moment—though not, perhaps, for the reasons Colby had in mind. If anything, referencing that epoch in the church’s history highlights Pope Leo’s integrity and pastoral leadership [acting like a spiritual guide].

Apparently Journalists often overhear Trump totally losing it in the oval office:

A background on JD Vance's truth telling abilities

Vance claimed an ICE agent involved in a shooting was “protected by absolute immunity” but the later denied ever making that claim, despite it being publicly documented.

He Asserted that the government was investigating the shooting of Renee Good, though reporting indicated no such criminal investigation was underway.

He claimed ICE agents were not entering homes without warrants, which critics said was untrue.

So take this story with the same skepticism as Putin reporting accidental deaths of political opponents

Before someone points it out, and because it is inevitably mentioned by the media, Vance had a loosely Christian upbringing and then a period of atheism Vance formally converted to Catholicism at age 35.

JD Vance Reacts to Report US Official Issued Threat to Vatican Ambassador: Newsweek

U.S. Vice President JD Vance said Wednesday he would look into reports that senior Pentagon officials lectured the Vatican's ambassador, leading to the cancellation of a planned visit by Pope Leo XIV.

Vance, speaking in Hungary, was asked about reports first shared by The Free Press that claimed Cardinal Christophe Pierre was told in January that the Vatican and the Catholic Church should get on board with the Trump administration's military tactics.

"I would actually like to talk to Cardinal Cristophe Pierre and, frankly, to our people, to figure out what actually happened," Vance said. "I think it's always a bad idea to offer an opinion on stories that are unconfirmed and uncorroborated, so I'm not going to do that."

Melania Trump releases official White House statement saying in detail that she had no relationship with Epstein or Maxwell:

https://www.whitehouse.gov/briefings-statements/2026/04/first-lady-melania-trump-statement/

Lastly Melania Trump calls on Congress to: "provide the women who have been victimized by Epstein with a public hearing specifically centered around the survivors. Give these victims their opportunity to testify under oath in front of Congress, with the power of sworn testimony. Each and every woman should have her day to tell her story in public, if she wishes, and then her testimony should be permanently entered into the Congressional Record. Then, and only then, will we have the truth."

Former Trump advisor and financier Anthony Scaramucci announces Republican presidential run. Probably almost zero chance but could be influential if purchased by another candidate as a spoiler.

Trump's 'movie star' praise for Melania sparks social media storm: MSN

At the April 6 White House Easter Egg Roll, Donald Trump responded to a child's repeated question about Melania by calling her a 'movie star' and later repeating the phrase to the crowd.

He tied the comment to her self-titled Amazon documentary, 'Melania,' which premiered in January.

While the in-person audience reacted with smiles and laughter, social media users pounced on the remark, mocking both the description and the film's reception.
...
December 2025 YouGov polling found only 36% of Americans viewed her favorably, making her the least popular modern first lady. The Easter event, meant to showcase approachability, instead reignited debate over her image and public reception.

I prefer classless, climber, fraud, tacky.

In a contest of New York street hustlers, carnival barkers, or snake‑oil salesmen, Anthony Scaramucci may be slightly less sleazy than Trump.

I get a "nod and a wink" / "in on the joke" vibe more with Scaramucci than Trump

The NY Times - Opinion - The Trump Administration Is in a Psychotic State  (unlocked link)

April 10, 2026

It has been clear for a long time that President Trump is a person with a disorganized mind and a disordered personality.

What the past few months and especially the past few weeks have brought into focus is how his pathologies have cascaded downward and outward through his administration. They have become institutionalized.

The reason the administration so often does not act coherently is that it cannot. The world faces something new and baffling and frightening in Mr. Trump’s second term: a psychotic state.

This does not mean that every individual in the government is emotionally or psychologically unstable. Nor is it a clinical diagnosis of the president.

The issue is that the administration as a whole lacks a consistent attachment to reality and the ability to organize its thinking coherently. Mr. Trump’s grandiosity, impulsivity, inconsistency and outright breaks with reality have become state policy. ...

Well, Trump started a war to distract from the Epstein files, and now he has Melania use the Epstein files to distract from the war.

Full circle.

Black military service members question their career choices after Hegseth's cancellation of earned promotions and the environment that Hegseth's influence is encouraging:

"“We have this saying: We don’t see color — we see Army green. I really believed that. I felt that, because the military used to be a hotbed of white nationalism,” Tavorise Marks, who served in the Army for 15 years, told Capital B in December. “But I think that we’re going back in that direction now.” He also noted that at his barbershop, which is across the street from the Fort Lee/Fort Gregg-Adams Army base, about 30 miles from the Virginia capital of Richmond, he has heard Black soldiers mull over whether to retire in the next year or just decide not to reenlist"
