Marathon Bible Reading Event to celebrate America's 250th birthday

Hang on, shouldn't they celebrate the 250th by reading the constitution 250 times?

After all it's only Christian to remind some people of their obligations to their fellows. I don't have any objection to reading the bible it just seems like they chose the wrong document for the anniversary.

By the way the thing isn't a marathon. It runs from 9am to 9pm over seven days. Uh wait.. shouldn't it be six days with rest on the seventh?

You bet me to it. Veeeeeery interesting article. As they say “where there is smoke”. But as the article stated it is very hard to prove.

At least until one of them invites an NYT journalist to the "Trump Announcements Trade Heads-Up" Signal chat group for a week.

I know it's suspicious that Florida anacondas are often seen near people's pet carcasses, but it's just being adept at anticipations of the pets non violent deaths.

This week's episode of Last Week's Tonight (John Oliver) looks at those betting marketplaces and how people with interest in an active bet can act to change the outcome, because the bets are public.

Like the Coinbase CEO who, during the earnings call, added something that would result in a positive outcome for a bet on "will the Coinbase CEO use these words in the earnings call" to be true - the words bitcoin, ethereum. Talk about manipulation.

50/50 whether this belongs better here or in the Luxon thread, but Shane Jones is directing officials to sign the US critical minerals deal. I can't believe we're contemplating signing anything with MAGA America. They can't lie in bed straight.

After the news flurry around Waitangi Day, Jones was directed by Cabinet to seek further advice on the framework, and directed officials to pause work on the talks. The move came amidst a wave of public outcry against the deal and the idea of supplying the Trump administration the minerals it needed for warfare.

The ‘Trump deal’ narrative was dominating headlines, questions were being raised in Parliament, and Luxon’s electorate office was graffitied by Greenpeace in protest. A sign was put up out front reading “Trump War Minerals HQ”, the office was draped in American flags, and Trump’s portrait was installed next to that of Luxon.

Aramiac

Then various religions got hold of it and redacted and rewrote it to suit the politics of the the times.

https://www.vpm.org/elections/2026-04-21/redistricting-referendum-gerrymandering-trump-central-va-voters

Virginia residents go to the polls to vote on redrawn maps, in response to the orange buffoon's gerrymandering in Republican states. Of course, he's not happy about it (no surprises there).

May be an image of map and text that says "Let e me get this straight: Trump pushed Texas to redraw its maps for five extra Republican seats, Missouri and North Carolina piled on but today, when Virginia voters get to weigh in on their own redistricting referendum, suddenly it's an outrage? SA You don't get to start a gerrymandering war and then complain when the other side shows up."

Living la vida taco (apologies to Ricky Martin)

He’s into greasy burgers
Big Macs and lots of fries
I feel a premonition
He’s going to tell me lies

He’s into new deceptions
New grifts are in his sight
He’s got a new fake hustle
For every day and night

He'll make you take your savings
And go buy his tacky merch
He’ll make you vote for crazy things
Then leave you in the lurch
While on the way to church (you’ll croak)

Upside, inside out
He's livin' la vida taco
He'll push and pull you down
Livin' la vida taco
His hands are very small
And his skin's the color purple
He will pull you down
Livin' la vida taco (croak)
Livin' la vida taco (croak)
He's livin' la vida taco

Woke up in DC downtown
In a ballroom being built
He stole my faith, and he stole my money
He didn’t show the slightest guilt

He never drinks the water, makes you order diet coke
Once you've had a taste of him, you'll know it’s not a joke
Yeah, he'll make you gag and choke (you’ll croak)

Upside, inside out
He's livin' la vida taco
He'll push and pull you down
Livin' la vida taco
His hands are very small
And his skin's the color purple
He will pull you down
Livin' la vida taco (croak)
Livin' la vida taco (croak)
He's livin' la vida taco

New Zealand critical minerals seems like, mining subsidy BS.
Given that Australia has a much easier geography and replete with minerals.
Even odd mine mothballed as world price is too low.
Australia already sends stuff to China for processing as its not economic in Aussie or USA.

No way USA is signing up its companies to pay more, or that 'they' USA are subsidizing costs.
More expensive non China processing, unless some magic makes its lower cost than China to process.

So more political theatre and a lever for us to subsidise the costs of establishing these mines in much less than ideal conditions than other countries. Giving companies a pass on standards for environment and tailing dams that will become our problem later.
Subsidies for mine establishment, and easing regulations around tailing dams that become our problem for generations

If economics works, then no need for special deal with the 'Buy American first and only crowd'.

So I smell dead rats we will end up eating to make it work economically.
