Hammerer: As an uncommitted and undecided voter, I am looking for some cogent analysis of what's happening just before the election. There's not a lot. It's like the election day ban on political advertising has started a day early and not much is happening. Maybe the journalists and commentators are saving it up for the post-election analysis.

This morning the only thread on politics in the geekzone "recent" list is this one. I thought there would more happening than just this thread which is probably the nadir for recent discussions. It has got to 26 pages without much of any import that relates directly to the "Moment of Truth" and NZ - although some of the links to overseas events are very interesting.

I've read the links posted by the OP. It's all very underwhelming and hardly justifies the tags others have used (such as #dirtyPM or #dirtypolitics) and the obvious scaremongering in some of those linked webpages.

I am very unlikely to ever vote for John Key but It seems to me that he's come out of this looking better than he went into it.

[edits to remove repeated word and fix spelling mistake. It doesn't pay to type when I'm unwell.]

I've never really understood how anyone can arrive at the day before polling and still not have decided. You've had at least 3 years to think about it!!

It's not only you. It seems the John Key and National in general got even more votes after the "Moment of Truth" episode.

Just for the benefit of those who like to say "I've got nothing to hide" in relation to mass surveillance - have a read of this. Maybe some you are truly boring, maybe some you have particular idealogical leanings, maybe some of you proclaim against others in order to hide what you do yourselves. Maybe some of this could be used against you in the future. My point is, whether or not mass surveillance is occurring here or is being passed back here from overseas, don't take your privacy for granted.

Edit: grandma, cos sometimes my Englands not too good.

They definitely got mine. I was always leaning National, but I'm pretty apathetic when it comes to actually getting out and voting.

This BS pulled by KDC and his cohorts motivated me to get out and vote early. Already done.

Cheers - N

Everyone I've spoken to over that last few days is well over KDC and his "importing" of foreigners for his own "political" ends to to get revenge on John Key and wish he'd just disappear. Now some at least are voting to show their displeasure and the only way for this to be noticed is by supporting John Key and National with the exception of Te Tai Tokerau where I suspect they'll vote for Kelvin Davis to stop KDC's candidates coat tailing on Hone Harawira's seat.

I think KDC has over estimated his popularity with the New Zealand public.

Kiwis dont like being told what to do. (:

KDC did not help the discussion besides pursuing his own aganda. I wish the whole discussion would have started without him and outside of the election period.

Mass surveilance is an important issue and should be discussed properly, but now a lot of voters just feel attacked and wont even consider the consequences. Its a shame.

But on the other hand we had an exciting ride leading up to this election and hopefully this gets more people interested in politics.

The circus has probably turned people off politics.

I have no meeting of minds with any of the parties even the closest to what I prefer. Each has a major plank of their campaign that I don't want to support.

Not me! I enrolled for the first time since moving here. I could never be asked to get into NZ politics, so many new parties, policies. Who was I supposed to vote for without knowing what everyone is up to? I'd rather spend my time reading about new gadgets. I just trusted Kiwis to do the right thing.

I have always been a keen follower since a kid. I have been active party member on a number of occasions but this election has pushed my patience and tested my interest greatly
