Rikkitic:

According to TV1 just now, the LOO (Leader Of the Opposition) scored a massive 24,000 (!) mostly critical responses when he posted yet another whinge about government Covid 19 policy. I don't like him as a politician and I probably wouldn't like him as a person, but that aside his massive inability to 'read' the public mood must already completely disqualify him for any kind of leadership role in this country.

I swear Simon Bridges couldn't read a room if he were the only person in it.

Here is a crazy notion, lets give peace a chance.

In that context he will happily tell you that his fart smells great.

A recent news agency survey, Newshub I think, has Judith Collins as the preferred choice for leader of the National Party. What an horrific thought. I guess National supporters really are between a rock and a hard place.

Not a surprise, maybe an inevitability. Who else have they got?

And you could ask the same question of Labour, NZ First, The Greens and ACT. The talent pool is pretty shallow. Labour are lucky to have the master communicator that they do at the moment.

I wouldn't all G Robertson shallow on talent. Look up Paul Goldsmiths rise to shadow Finance Minister. Nothing there. He is a PR man

If needed Grant Robertson and Andrew Little could take the helm. NZ Green Marama Davidson could do like wise. As for NZ First, no one and ACT who?

An outsider for National could be Chris Bishop he has done some great work in the Hutt Valley.

Really! Roll your memory back to 12 months before the last election, before Jacinda Ardern. I’m talking about leadership, not “filling in”.

Judith is smarter than that. She would know that anyone taking over from Simon is just a place holder until they can get Luxton in.

The only way she would do this is if John Key is pulling the strings and has promised her she would be deputy PM

This was meant to be Simons roll, be there until they lost the election, take the blame and leave parliament with the promise of a cushy job as an ambassador when the Nats came to power. Problem is he is self destructing early and taking everyone else with him.

If nothing else, Andrew Little deserves heaps of praise for having the sense and humility to bow out in favour of Jacinda Ardern. If he had done the usual male ego thing, Labour would still be in the wilderness.

Grant Robertson is a serious contender for PM and has been seen as such for a long time. He definitely would not be 'filling in'. The only thing against him, which is not his fault at all, is that he lacks a little in the charisma department and doesn't have JA's charm. But he would be an outstanding leader.

Judith is a shark who, with some others, has been circling patiently as she awaits her turn. She would not take kindly to being usurped by an upstart.

I am not saying I want them at the helm I am saying if needed they could take the helm. Very unlikely as I feel Jacinda Ardern could be a three term PM

If National were sane and interested in appealing to the socially progressive to moderate, Nikki Kaye would be a great choice. But they won't do it.

I agree I had forgotten about Nikki Kaye she would be a very good choice. I am probably wrong but I kind of recall that she has said that she does not want the leadership role because of health concerns.
