joker97: Kim dotcom is evil! But I can't explain why ... let's see what this one plays out to be

I think quite a few people feel the same way about John Key :-P

I'm a geek, a gamer, a dad, a Quic user, and an IT Professional. I have a full rack home lab, size 15 feet, an epic beard and Asperger's. I'm a bit of a Cypherpunk, who believes information wants to be free and the Net interprets censorship as damage and routes around it. If you use my Quic signup you can also use the code R570394EKGIZ8 for free setup. Opinions are my own and not the views of my employer.

but wouldn't think that way if he was leader of the Labour party, disliking people based on their political leaning is fine but inferring they are evil is going to another level and usually based on perception rather than reality.

I still cannot figure out why a percentage, be it a small percentage of the populous is continuing to be suckered Kim Dotcom and his BS.

Here is a crazy notion, lets give peace a chance.

I hope they also warn all those listening to watch what they say via their Gmail or the search terms they use on Google. I don't see why a private company should be trusted any more than a government agency.

So there is a chance (albeit small) that tonight's meeting could be the catalyst for the unzipping and collapse of the Five Eyes agreement and the world-wide US surveillance state, starting with dirty John, and you guys (with honourable exceptions: thank you, turnin) can only say it's boring and Dotcom is dodgy?

Guess it is time I stopped looking to Geekzone for thought leadership...

I don't have a problem with spying. IF, the intended purpose is to protect peace.

Otherwise there will be anarchy! [note the bad guys are always spying ... the good guys need to spy back!]

You mean like calling someone a henchman???

Rather unbecoming of a PM if you ask me.

And let's not talk about any of the serious issues raised by dirty politics. That's just a distraction.

I would feel the same no matter who was leading the government. Since these are the people we voted for to run our country.

Those who would sacrifice privacy for security receive neither.

Having experienced Bryan Gould as a UK Labour MP before he moved here to be a lefty academic, I would personally go outside and check myself if he told me it was raining....

I have no problem with spying on any other country - regardless of our relationship with them.

Anyone who thinks they do not spy on us is just indulging in wishful thinking. All governments do it to find out what their opposite numbers are REALLY thinking when it comes to matters of negotiation and so on.

It's a bit like people who think that the fact that we have a law saying no nuclear powered vessels in NZ waters would in fact prevent nuclear vessels if their owners wished them to sail through our waters.  A nuclear sub is so stealthy these days they could probably sail one into Auckland harbour at night and no one would actually know - I doubt our navy spends very much on top grade sub hunting kit and in any case it is so small that they would be so spread out it would be PDL if they actually located one!

The world may appear to be a nice cosy place where we all play by the rules but anyone who has worked in the security services in any country will tell you it ain't.

BarTender: Anyone planning to go to the Moment of Truth event tomorrow at the Auckland Town Hall.

...snip...

I particularly like how a Pulitzer prize winning journalist is being called a "henchman" four times if my count is right.

Where's the info about Glenn Greenwald being a Pulitzer prize winning journalist coming from? Unless my search criteria is way off, I can't find him listed at http://www.pulitzer.org

How does winning a journalism prize (if he did) preclude you from being a henchman?!
