Bowling Green, Atlanta and now... Sweden?

“What has he been smoking?” pondered Carl Bildt (former Swedish PM).

He's playing everyone. He's desensitizing the public to the degree that people will start ignoring him, and then he will be allowed do things. Terrible things. Big things that are terrible.

Trouble is, his supporters will think he's done marvelous things! Great things! And start worshiping him. *sigh

best sign seen carried by one of his supporters at his florida rally. "Make American airports great again" not sure if the supporter was a plant.

Tonight, for the first time, I actually heard someone on the news use the word 'dictator'. I didn't catch it all, but he was an official of some kind, not a member of the public. He wasn't saying Trump was a dictator, rather that was where he was headed.

Politicians are not and haven't been the bastions of truth add to that a press that is also not the bastions of truth it leaves one with a huge amount of clouds to navigate through. By the the time one has struggled through the lies, half truths, mistakes, showmanship, self promotion, revenue seeking, fiction writing and just plain garbage one is left with what may well be the truth of the time if you are lucky.

The scale of Trump's lying is hugely unprecedented by any leader in any contemporary western/liberal first-world democracy.

From time to time (including in NZ) politicians get upset about how things are reported in the media. My impression is that while sometimes the mainstream media get it wrong, they more than often get it right.

The Washington Post, New York times etc are being demonised by the authoritarian Trumpists for telling the truth.  One of the most satisfying things happening is that the more Trump attacks with lies saying they're "failing" with falling subscriptions etc, the more their readership and subscriptions are growing.

There is no denying that Mr Trump has taken it to the level of an art form but the optimist in me also wonders if he is being manipulated and fed BS from advisors with covert agendas and others with similar agendas. He is a canny business operator but he is a novice to Washington and and absolute novice on the international scene, there are many that are far more canny than he is and know how to get their way.

I get that. You can't fool a tradesmen plumber, but put him on a building site with tradesmen builders, it has to be easy. And in his case, feed the monkey, his ego is so rich its over his head

Which is kind of bizarre when you know that the POTUS TFR (no-fly zone) around his holiday home in Florida is playing havoc with the local availation scene.

Some might say you are being a drama merchant. I am sorry to say that I agree with you.

I actually don't agree. Well, I won't expand on his persona, we all know that.

He has no experience.

His ego outweighs his brain

Now what has he done wrong that affects the globe? His ban affected many, but only a handful, and thats been squished by the legal system. The wall has gone quiet. Where are the trade issues??? Quiet also. When he took power, Wall St rose, now its come back, no crisis. What has he done that affects us us all? Bugger all, if not nothing. Lies, rants, tweets etc etc etc don't run the US or affect the globe, they just undermine himself and his country. he is becoming valueless. ineffective, a news item and no more. Where are the trade deals (apart from other countries looking elsewhere, China and Mexico being a key example), nor looking at South China Sea to see whose got the most ships and arms. Instead we read the world leaders and Govt members putting him down, his own peers putting him down. The brits petitioning against a state visit, etc, etc. he actually isn't doing anything. So the world is safe, no GFC, no wars, its a show. Its probably safer now than if he wasn't in power.

Dont worry about his lies and gaffes and faults, those factors are helping. I read here that if he was impeached thats a global crisis, cant recall who said that. He is in power being a dick, no crisis. If he was removed, no crisis. I feel the globe is better off with him in as that makes the US weak, which offers opportunities for the non US. Either to slowly distance themselves, or work together.

Lets make the globe great again .
