JayADee: As long as Mexico paid for it.
Looks like the health care bill might not pass.

Trump does have a little bit of a problem here...

According to Quinnipiac polling, only 17% of Americans support the AHCA (aka Trumpcare).

The ACA/AHCA doesn't matter particularly to us in NZ or the rest of the world, but the division in the GOP it's signalling may also mean that Trump's anti-trade and anti-global America First promises are likely to be opposed by the same factions in his own party, as well as possibly paving the way to impeachment before 2018.

Wishful thinking that may be,  I'm hoping to celebrate wildly when Trump gets taken down - however that happens.

The good thing is he isn't actually doing anything. So I'm happy with his antics. Harms him and nobody else

But that's the amazing thing, it really isn't harming his approval ratings. He's sitting pretty consistently at about 40%, all the fluctuations are within a reasonable margin of error.

This was true right through the primaries and the election campaign, nothing he says or does has any real impact on his ratings.

But consider that Bannon may be happy for Trump to say and do anything he wants as he knows it won't effect his approval ratings - but it may well lull his detractors into a false sense of security that "he's just a baffoon, he can't make any real changes". Bannon may even be encouraging it for this very reason.

actually he is trying to do a lot one of the things he is trying to do is bring down the cost of medications.  Something that is long over due.  One of my medications that cost me $NZ5 for a months supply in NZ cost between $US150 to $US225 a month in the US.  Once you get  past some of the hype and look at some of the things he is trying to do like reduce the cost of medications for americans it is things that are more than needed.  The EPI pen in NZ cost just over $NZ120, in the states you are looking at around $US600

Nope. Probably more competition in the NZ market:

http://www.pharmacydirect.co.nz/epipen-adult.html

USA, FDA, insurance, etc. That said I'm not sure the price comparison is entirely accurate above.

Im sure there are small things he can do, note the can do. Like you example. But all the issues over bans, walls, Obamacare (which is the latest major promise that will hit the wall, and no effect on global issues such as trade, NATO, etc, nothing in his hard hitting "I can fix it" is happening. Its 90% talk, and the 10% action gets stopped as its poorly planned

Article here on the topic doesn't sound very hopeful: http://www.newsweek.com/trump-drug-prices-big-pharma-552295
Sounds to me like meds less proven to work and more proffits for companies. If I were Pharma I'd be chuffed with Trump.
Plus
''He also questioned policies that enable other countries to, in his words, pay too little for prescription medications. “We are going to be ending global freeload.”'
no doubt includes NZ.

At least the end goal was worthy.

Well the issue is the rort (hmm why is spell check saying it is wrong - rort is a word right?) in the healthcare system of the USA. It's stuffed.

Privatisation means the market has no price check. Everybody charges what they want. You see how much a Toyota/Honda key costs in NZ? Thing is you don't have a buy the key. See how much it costs to build/renovate a house here? THing is, you don't have to build/renovate your house.

But with your health - how do you know what you need? The doctor says you need this operation, this pill, to see this specialist, to etc ... it costs a huge sum. They don't even let you die in peace, instead prolonging the inevitable by dishing out treatment that is not necessarily what a dying person wants, with or without their permission (say already in a coma for example).

The NHS, is the other extreme. Everything is so controlled. Sometimes (usually) too controlled.

Not quite correct:

These actions and orders will likely have a profound and negative effect ....so he is doing stuff - very little of it good.

There isn't  a lot there at all. Made up of small stuff that isn't very good, reviews (a review means nothing) stuff that has since or will be cut The big ticket items, the bans, AHA, wall, trade tariffs to the globe, and China specifically. Nothing.

There are a couple of serious issues:

To quote Paul Ryan:

“The idea of Obamacare is … that the people who are healthy pay for the people who are sick,” Ryan said. “It’s not working, and that’s why it’s in a death spiral.”

That's basically an admission that he has no clue at all how insurance works. Though he probably does know how insurance works, but it doesn't suit his cultist libertarian leanings.

Another issue is summed up by a photo:

A pack of wealthy, middle-aged, conservative men - in a huddle with christian fundamentalist VP, thrashing out a deal that will include deliberately restricting/discriminating against women's access to women's healthcare.

I Haven't followed this topic much lately, but it does seem from what I glanced at that Trumpcare is in doubt?
