A pack of wealthy, middle-aged, conservative men - in a huddle with christian fundamentalist VP, thrashing out a deal that will include deliberately restricting/discriminating against women's access to women's healthcare.

How is this any differetn from John Key calling the maori party in

Seems obvious to me -- The Maori Party are not a pack of wealthy, middle-aged, conservative white men.

Trump Blames Democrats as Major Push to Repeal Health Law Fails  [New York Times]

Apparently Trump doesn't understand democracy... the Democrats would be entirely irrelevant IF Republicans supported the new bill.

Or, more likely, it's just another Big Lie... it doesn'y matter what you say, so long as (a) it doesn't make you look foolish (in your own eyes), and (b) you have a minority to blame.

And to take this a step further, its not about Republicans vs Democrats, its about Trump vs Republicans. That is totally, totally bizarre. It will become increasingly normal to not back the leader of your party,

Ummm... unlike the NZ PM, the POTUS is not the leader of the majority party. Obama, for example, was a Democrat with Republican majorities in the House and Senate. Trump was never really a significant Republican Party leader. I'm not sure exactly who the leader of the Republican Party would be in the NZ sense though.  Mitch McConnell (Senate Majority Leader)? Kevin McCarthy (House Majority Leader)? Paul Ryan (Speaker of the House)?

Fred99:

There are a couple of serious issues:

To quote Paul Ryan:

“The idea of Obamacare is … that the people who are healthy pay for the people who are sick,” Ryan said. “It’s not working, and that’s why it’s in a death spiral.”

That's basically an admission that he has no clue at all how insurance works. Though he probably does know how insurance works, but it doesn't suit his cultist libertarian leanings.

Another issue is summed up by a photo:

A pack of wealthy, middle-aged, conservative men - in a huddle with christian fundamentalist VP, thrashing out a deal that will include deliberately restricting/discriminating against women's access to women's healthcare.

when you need to pass a bill you look for votes, that is what this photo shows, a meeting with a small group called thee freedom caucus.  How is this any differetn from John Key calling the maori party in and talking soley to them when needing votes?  No doubt there are a few groups that are being negoiated with to try and get their votes, just the media likes to jump on the picture and turn it into a huge story, just like the media always did in NZ with Key.  ever thought.  surely you understand if you need to pass a bill and there is a group of 30 people who are not wanting to vote for it you call them in and negoiate with them, which is happening in this photo.

You missed the mark. These people are working on a healthcare bill with specific items affecting women's health in that country - and you don't see a single woman there. That's the point. It's not representative of the people.

Do they negotiate for votes? Sure, exactly like you said. And like noted they do it in the worst way possible.

It was also a rushed piece of legislation that had not thought out the consequences anywhere near well enough. It was simply bad legislation that Trump didnt understand in the fist place. The original legislation took years to put in place yet its replacement was drafted in a few weeks.....shame on you Trump and Ryan.

It is good to see that some republicans at least could see through the politics of this and understand the consequences of its passing.

White House credibility at all time low and seen by majority of western world as a joke. SAD.

Not sure why but I cannot quote MF's post above - the system just hangs and never gives me a page.

I was going to say that there are people in that meeting that you can't see in the image, as the bottom right and top left parts of the table are completely missing.

No idea who was sat there - if anyone - but you can't really draw conclusions from half a photo.

The Republicans have been trying for years to replace Obamacare. As they've controlled the house and the senate they could have done so, even with Obama was in power. Why didn't they then? For the very same reason they can't now - their party is just far too fragmented.

Not quite correct:

These actions and orders will likely have a profound and negative effect ....so he is doing stuff - very little of it good.

There isn't  a lot there at all. Made up of small stuff that isn't very good, reviews (a review means nothing) stuff that has since or will be cut The big ticket items, the bans, AHA, wall, trade tariffs to the globe, and China specifically. Nothing.

Yep agree they are reviews at this stage - but the intent is clear.

That said the smackdown of Trumpcare getting pulled is well encouraging in terms of showing the limits he may have placed on him going forward.

And in that regard I did like this quote from the Washington Post article:

"In short, Trump now stands as the emperor with no clothes - vulnerable, weakened and mocked. Sad!"

Tis a ray of sunshine after months of worrying sh&te.  :)

The photo was posted by VP Pence on his twitter account.

There was apparently only one woman present at the meeting - Kellyanne Conway.

I think the issue that you're having with with quoting that (and other) posts relate to the fact that the original image was pasted (by me) rather than "linked".  Not sure what web browser etc you're using and/or security settings on that browser (javascript enabled?) - it may be not recognising and parsing/rendering the Base64 code as an image, then you'll see gibberish.  Why the browser would be able to parse it so you can see the image when viewing the page, but not when it's in the "quote" edit window is beyond me.  I do know that there's a very short delay (fraction of a second) when I quote a large size "pasted Base64" image, but I'm using a fairly fast PC most of the time.

I fully agree with the intent, that intent worried everybody. Two bans overruled, health fails dismally within his party, it all looks good. The trade is a major issue, thats gone really quiet, the intent to add a tariff on everyone exporting to the US as they are being ripped off.

Fair enough, I meant him being the leader of the US and is a Republican party member. But not the leader of the Republicans.

The "short delay" is because since this is an image embeded on the page your browser needs to parse the content, which is almost 300KBytes. Because it's embeded on the page and the page is not cached (dynamic content) then every time the page is loaded that whole image is downloaded with the content and parsed.

If instead you save the image to your computer and upload it then it will be cached, distributed through a CDN and won't block page rendering.

i think what we are seeing is more than that, I think it is also the intelligence agencies vs trump.  I believe one of two things will happen.  he will turn out to actually be a good president or he will be killed

I don't believe there is any way he will become a good president. But I certainly hope he is not assassinated, that would turn him into a martyr in the eyes of his supporters and could pave the way for someone like Bannon to run in 2020.

Ah. I see, said the blind man to his deaf daughter, shaking his wooden leg as he got up and walked away.

Using Safari on an iMac with a 4Ghz i7 chip and 32GB RAM. Should be enough horsepower I would think?
