 [mawr-on, mohr-] Spell Syllables

  • noun 1. Informal. a person who is notably stupid or lacking in goodjudgment: I wonder why they elected that narrow-minded moron to Congress. 2. Psychology. (no longer in technical use; now considered offensive) aperson of borderline intelligence in a former and discardedclassification of mental retardation, having an intelligence quotient of50 t

You are being excessively sensitive. Clearly, I am using the term in the accepted general sense. I am not offering a diagnosis. I stand by what I said. Based on his actions and statements, Trump is a moron.

it would very difficult to make an assessment remotely and why professionally it is not allowed. Given 99% of the news coming out of the US is politically biased in either camps, in accurate, poorly reported (something that afflicts news agencies globally) correct or outright false. Now I am not a fan of Trump at all but I accept that he is of average to above average intellect that is not to say he is infallible he is after all mortal. He has policies that from outside the US looking in seem to be wrong and his foreign relations policy is very much influenced by the belief that the USA is the king of the block, the World police a role the rest of the World has put them in.

He plays to his audience, he knows who voted for him and who will vote for him in 2020. He may not be a good politician, he is probably an awful President ( jury still out on that) but he won against the odds, he will  probably see through to 2020 and he may well be re-elected.

Here is a crazy notion, lets give peace a chance.

They should put it in the middle of the river, then they get half a river each! tongue-out

I had a look at the Rio Grande river on Google maps; it's a very long natural separation border. No matter which side this proposed wall went on, WTF would they do with tributaries to the river? Block them off with more frigging walls? yell

At the eastern end particularly, it meanders all over the place, the course has shifted since it was surveyed, so the border is no longer in the middle of the river, but crosses it many times.

Example below of a farm which is in the USA -  if Trump builds a wall on the border it would be almost completely encased by wall and you'd need to swim across the river to go anywhere - 'cause the only road access is through Mexico.

They may have to rename that bridge as well :)

Why do you defend him?

If the term 'moron' bothers you so much, I am happy to substitute 'idiot'. I think Trump is an idiot who just happened to tap into voter resentment at the right time and got lucky. Note I say 'idiot', not 'idiot-savant'. Trump is a person of limited intelligence with an inflated opinion of himself. Stupid people never realise they are stupid because ... well, they are stupid.

This goes way beyond partisan politics and media with an axe to grind. Trump has repeatedly said and done things that damage his own interests. This is not false news. It is reported everywhere. There has also been plenty of historical media coverage of Trump, long before he entered politics. There is plenty of information from many sources to confirm the notion that the man is a mor... sorry, idiot. At best, he is a bumbling fool. Admittedly he is a fool with money, though exactly how much money seems to be another matter of dispute. Certainly there is no doubt that he has lied and cheated to acquire at least some of his wealth, and the rest probably came from his father. There is evidence that he has lost more money than he has made. He uses bankruptcy as a tactic to avoid paying his debts. Perhaps there is a degree of animal cunning there, but I don't think it qualifies as intelligence. Trump is an idiot who got lucky, possibly because he is a useful tool to others who actually are smart, and for that reason are prepared to keep propping him up.

Trump does not like to read. This is not the mark of an intelligent person, even one with psychopathic tendencies. I continue to stand by what I said. The man is an idiot.

Not defending him. As you know I hate name calling, I believe that using derogatory named lessens the opposing argument. Time will judge Mr Trump but really two months is not enough time to make a judgement. He is an inexperienced politician and his lack of political nous it handing him some valuable lessons. How he takes these lessons onboard is what will eventually determine his success or failure.

It doesn't on Google Earth/Maps - and in fact the "island" even shows with the postcode marked in it on US postcode maps.

I presume the border would follow the centre of the natural course of the river - perhaps a channel was dug here to divert it to the present course.

Very odd.  Anyway, if the US want a border wall, they have no real choice but to build it well back on US territory, which means buying private land, which means more money they'll have to get - presumably not from wealthy americans.

As for the people who own that farm - whether it's in the US or Mexico, perhaps they should paint a flag on the roof of one of the farm buildings.  It would be a bastard to be bombed by your own team in case of war - far nicer to be bombed by the other team.

I do think there's a tendency where strongly meritocratic capitalist ideology prevails, to over-associate wealth with success, then assume that wealth must be a reasonably reliable indicator of "intelligence". It isn't.

I think where you've gone wrong is to conflate capitalism with meritocracy.

In a capitalist world, wealth *does* equate with success. "Capitalism is an economic system based on private ownership of the means of production and their operation for profit." What that boils down to is that those who have wealth control wealth-producing industries and become wealthier. Intelligence is largely irrelevant, except in competing against other wealthy people.

You must be very tolerant of fools.

His bizarre inauguration speech was enough to convince me that becoming POTUS hadn't changed Trump from being a dangerous malicious lying idiot into a statesman.

He's as bad as ever - fortunately mainly rendered impotent by his own party and the judiciary.

I was just saying this to someone earlier this morning. It doesn't matter what you think of him as a person and/or politician, he gets the ratings!!

Capitalism is conflated with meritocracy - it makes it "acceptable" to believe that advantage can be earned, that there's some equality of opportunity.  Partly true.  Not in Trump's case of course - he was born wealthy, son of Fred who was probably a KKK member and was a NY slumlord. Of course he also gave to charity - which makes everything all right.

Poor Trump. It is so unfair to be born into moral poverty. He never had equal opportunity to become a caring and compassionate person.
