Looks like the "let's gang up on Trump" tactic has totally backfired 100%.

And apparently there is some vote rigging going on in the Democrats, I was told if you were voting Sanders they change your vote to "independant" thus giving further unfair but illegal advantage to Hillary - any truth in that?

And why are people calling Sanders the only true champion of democracy amongst the four?

I guess because besides Trump (who is an old rich white clown) the rest come across as (and, really, are) establishment-backed rich old white men. Not that Sanders isn't rich, old(er), or a white man - but he has a very different vision to the rest of them. I've heard him described as a communist. If that's true, then a small dose of little-c communism would do the country a lot of good, I think. Give some power back to the people.

But... it's not going to happen.

Not surprising really...

Republicans are choosing to Trump because they don't like the establishment, represented by the smooth glossies Cruz & Kacich. The best thing that the establishment could do to undermine Trump would be to publicly support him. Which they may have to do after the Convention.

I detest Drumph but he won't start World War III. For one thing, he pretends to be stupider than he actually is. For another, the power of the President is actually very limited. The President sets the tone, but even in today's world there are plenty of checks and balances. During the final drunken days of Nixon's presidency others quietly made sure to keep his hands off the button.

The president commands the armed forces. As the war on Iraq showed - raise the tone pitch high enough and the checks and balances are meaningless.

Edit: also don't forget to call rational opponents traitorous surrender monkey peaceniks

After the Kennedy, Johnson, and Nixon Administrations spent nearly a decade committing U.S. troops to Southeast Asia without Congressional approval, in 1973 Congress responded by passing the War Powers Resolution. The Resolution sought to halt the erosion of Congress's ability to participate in war-making decisions, an aim furthered by the Resolution's requirement that the President communicate to Congress the commitment of troops within 48 hours. Further, the statute requires the President to remove all troops after 60 days if Congress has not granted an extension.

So it seems the President can run a war for up to 2 months without Congressional approval.

This is called "being Presidential".

Other "Presidential" options include suggesting to someone that it's OK for them to invade Kuwait, then liberate it. Or just invade a small Communist Caribbean island. Or finance jihadists/revolutionaries in a country. Or blockade a country until they fight or capitulate. Or provide arms to a country's enemies.

I'm still trying to work out what the issue is with Trump potentially winning the Presidency....

According to the democratic process, it can only happen if most of the voters choose him.

Irrespective of the messages he gives, he is still winning more votes than his competitors.

Perhaps the people who dislike him so much should start looking at WHY he is gaining the votes, instead of simply calling him out FOR winning them.
