Today's quiz - can you identify these GOP deplorables?

EDIT  From left to right:

Sarah Huckabee Sanders, George Soros, Lauren Boebert, Matt Gaetz, Marjorie Taylor Greene

Arkansas Gov. Sarah Sanders (R ) called for a new generation of Republican leadership in her response to President Biden’s State of the Union address on Tuesday. [07 Feb 2023]

The dividing line in America is no longer between right or left,” Sanders said from the governor’s mansion in Little Rock.

The choice is between normal or crazy. It’s time for a new generation of Republican leadership.”

The NY Times - Opinion - Marjorie Taylor Greene Didn’t Like What She Saw

13 Feb 2023

(Referring to President Biden's State of the Union speech)

On the subject of Republican hecklers, what a disgrace.  Never mind the geriatric president; the real danger is the prepubescent opposition. ...

Being called a liar by Greene is like being accused by Donald Trump of having a low I.Q.  I believe that’s what Freudians call projection.

It says a lot that the US seems to get lumped in with Liberia frequently, a nation considered to be an outcast in the international community.

But even Liberia can be more progressive than the US. They did away with the death penalty in 2000.

Wikipedia: Grand Jury

A grand jury is a jury—a group of citizens—empowered by law to conduct legal proceedings, investigate potential criminal conduct, and determine whether criminal charges should be brought. A grand jury may subpoena physical evidence or a person to testify. A grand jury is separate from the courts, which do not preside over its functioning.

Originating in England during the Middle Ages, grand juries are only retained in two countries, the United States and Liberia.

The liars got caught out!! Even they didn't believe Trump's bs, but started singing from his song sheet when they realised that those who embraced The Big Lie were leaving Fox and heading elsewhere.

From the state that dumped Liz Cheney, because she opposed Trump's attempted violent overthrow of democracy, two obserations:

1) One party seems to have more child sex groomers, and it ain't the dems.

2) Republican state senate president seems more interested in keeping private conversations private, than the morality of marrying a child.

CowboyStateDaily.com: Wyoming Lawmakers Spar Over Child Marriage, Scolded By Senate President

A proposed Wyoming law forbidding people 15 and younger from getting married passed the state Senate on Thursday after fending off some attempts to change it.

House Bill 7 would allow teens ages 16 and 17 to marry with a guardian’s permission, but would outlaw marriages for younger teens. People 18 and older could still get married without special permissions.

State senators launched into a debate that prompted Senate President Ogden Driskill, R-Devils Tower, to chastise them.

It began when Sen. Lynn Hutchings, R-Cheyenne, proposed an amendment to HB 7 that she said would have set the legal marriage age at 18 but would allow anyone younger 18 to get married with permission from both a judge and a guardian. The Senate rejected that amendment.
...
[Republican state senate president] Driskill told both senators after the debate that if they reference private conversations with legislators during a debate on the Senate floor, he will be more strict in the future and shut it down.

Wyoming law now says there’s no bottom marriage age, but people 15 and younger only can get married with guardian permission and special approval from a judge.

The Independent UK: Murdoch and Musk’s Super Bowl confab gives the game away

Elon Musk and Rupert Murdoch were spotted sitting together and chatting at the Super Bowl.

This shouldn’t be that surprising. Murdoch is the owner of Fox and Musk is the owner of Twitter; they’re both in the media industry. And, of course, they’re both obscenely rich. Even after his disastrous tenure at Twitter, Musk is estimated to be the second richest person in the world, with a net worth of around $146 billion. Murdoch has around $19 billion, which makes him the 31st wealthiest person on earth.

The sighting was newsworthy, though, because the two men have different branding. Murdoch mostly stays out of the spotlight; he’s a typical staid businessman who sits behind the scenes and rakes in cash.

Musk, in contrast, is constantly tweeting; he presents himself as an accessible dude who smokes pot on podcasts and listens to the voice of the people through various twitter polls. “Vox populi, vox Dei!” he likes to say. He’s even claimed to be a socialist.

But while they present themselves differently, Murdoch and Musk are in most respects indistinguishable. Their Super Bowl confab gives the game away. Their public personas may be different, but their ideals are the same. Those ideals being the empowerment of the far right in the name of preserving a status quo in which incredibly wealthy white men like themselves are at the top.

NewsWeek: As New York congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez heralds Denmark McDonald's minimum wage, here's how much a Big Mac costs there

McDonald's workers in Denmark and the costs of the country's Big Macs have once again been brought into the debate around whether the U.S. should more than double the minimum wage to $15 an hour.

New York congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, who has long advocated for the wage hike, condemned the decision by the Democrats to not include a rise in hourly pay in their COVID-19 bill, while mentioning what workers in the European country make.

"It is utterly embarrassing that 'pay people enough to live' is a stance that's even up for debate," Ocasio-Cortez tweeted.

"Override the parliamentarian and raise the wage. McD's workers in Denmark are paid $22/hr + 6 wks paid vacation. $15/hr is a deep compromise—a big one, considering the phase in."

Ocasio-Cortez's figures are correct and McDonald's workers in Denmark make around $22 an hour as a result of heavily unionized de facto minimum wages set in the country, on top of other benefits.

A 2014 opinion piece on Reuters, entitled "I'm making $21 an hour at McDonald's. Why aren't you?" also states that employees younger than 18 make the equivalent of $15 in Denmark—more than double what many adults in America earn working at the fast-food chain at the current minimum of $7.25.

One argument that is frequently brought up against the raising of the minimum wage to $15 is the suggestion that it will have a knock-on effect and the prices at affordable fast-food restaurants such as McDonald's and Taco Bell will also substantially increase.

In rebuke, many use the price of a Big Mac in Denmark as proof that such claims are unwarranted. On social media, a number of Twitter users state that the cost of a Big Mac is around $5.15, compared to $4:80 in the U.S.—even with the vastly different staff wages.

Stuff: Priest performs wedding ceremony, then has affair with the bride

An Anglican priest has resigned from his position after having an affair with a woman he officiated a marriage for a few months earlier.

Reverend Pitotori (Peter) Naera, from the Far North, told an Anglican Church tribunal he “didn’t know it was against the rules”.
