Comey's prepared testimony. Interesting read.

...
The President began by asking me whether I wanted to stay on as FBI Director, which I found strange because he had already told me twice in earlier conversations that he hoped I would stay, and I had assured him that I intended to. He said that lots of people wanted my job and, given the abuse I had taken during the previous year, he would understand if I wanted to walk away.

My instincts told me that the one-on-one setting, and the pretense that this was our first discussion about my position, meant the dinner was, at least in part, an effort to have me ask for my job and create some sort of patronage relationship. That concerned me greatly, given the FBI’s traditionally independent status in the executive branch.

I replied that I loved my work and intended to stay and serve out my ten year term as Director. And then, because the set-up made me uneasy, I added that I was not “reliable” in the way politicians use that word, but he could always count on me to tell him the truth. I added that I was not on anybody’s side politically and could not be counted on in the traditional political sense, a stance I said was in his best interest as the President.

A few moments later, the President said, “I need loyalty, I expect loyalty.” I didn’t move, speak, or change my facial expression in any way during the awkward silence that followed. We simply looked at each other in silence. The conversation then moved on, but he returned to the subject near the end of our dinner.

Indeed he has, and coincidentally number one threat (ISIS) has launched attacks in Tehran.

Trump is playing a very dangerous game there. The kind of "extremism" that most bothers his new friends in the ME isn't ISIS.

It's very odd. Suddenly the whole focus of ISIS (and Qatar and Saudi Arabia) appears to have changed to be about Sunni vs Shia rather than Muslim vs Western. Except that the latest London attack was only a few days ago.

Isis have always been like that. Most of the people they kill are Muslims who do not agree with them.

Edit:have to say I thought it was weird one of the attackers is said to have taken a cyanide pill..

I wonder if the the latest "news" is just spin, perhaps to reassure the British public ahead of the election that this isn't as big a problem as they thought?

I don't understand what you are saying or driving at one bit there?

It's a bit more complicated than that.

Shia - Sunni - ISIS - Europe- Russia- US etc

There was a cartoon showing this - wish i had saved it. Said it all perfectly.

This is not new, it's just history on repeat playback.

It is said that one of the demands Saudi is making of Qatar is: Shut down Al-Jazeera - now.

Al-Jazeera has it's blind spots but it's an essential media for the middle east area and beyond.

I do wonder if some of this is designed to take the heat off Saudi in the event that the UK government's suppressed report on terror funding is released. Corbyn has a good chance of getting that released in an election year, but as for what's in it or the quality of the report who knows.

Anyway, as usual for anything that Trump is involved in, it's not looking good going forward.

Yes it seems like that.
Notably, the ones committed to kill you and I for being apostates are Wahhabi/Salafi Sunni extremists.

They won't be from Iran. They might be from (or associated with) Saudi Arabia.

James Comey Testimony: Here Are 9 Key Moments from the Hearing

  • Comey accused the Trump administration of spreading "lies, plain and simple" about him
  • Comey said he was "honestly concerned" Trump might "lie" about their interactions
  • Comey said he is "sure" the special counsel will look into whether Trump obstructed justice
  • Comey wants Trump to release recordings - if they exist
  • Comey said he believes he was fired over the Russia investigation
  • Comey said he leaked his memos in hopes that might lead to a special counsel
  • Comey said there were facts that would make Jeff Sessions' involvement in the Russia investigation "problematic"
  • Comey wanted to be clear: Russia interfered in the 2016 presidential election
  • Comey declined to say whether he believes the Trump campaign colluded with Russia during the election - "It's a question I don't think I should answer in an open setting."

3 winners and 3 losers from James Comey's testimony to the Senate Intelligence Committee

We’ll let you guess which category Donald Trump falls into.  wink

So far Trump seems to have been able to keep his little fingers off the keyboard.

His lawyer has issued a statement that's IMO more of a "Press Release" / instructions for the faithful in how to fight back, mainly:

Much of Comey's testimony about what Trump said is hearsay - so all of that can be denied.
There's no evidence that Russia's interference resulted in change to one vote.
Comey "leaked".

That's all probably true. (How do you "prove" that Russia's interference actually "worked"?)

So IMO there's no impeachment coming directly from this - for obstruction of justice.

I don't know what happens to POTUS approval polls - as that's what actually matters apparently. Those convinced that Trump is a crooked liar don't need any more convincing, and the "faithful" won't be convinced that he is indeed a crooked liar unless every last excuse is used up.

Until a few days ago, it was portrayed as ISIS (and, by implication, Islam) vs the West, with attacks mostly in UK and France. Now, the focus has shifted to ISIS vs Shia... i.e. there's no particular focus on the UK, no real danger, Theresa May is doing a wonderful job.

Agree, circumstantial. But, it all adds to the growing list of bad form.

Agree.

Without hard evidence, it's Twitter vs Clinton [fake] News Network it seems.

So far, Twitter has dominated regardless of accuracy of fact.

We need to remember that Comey brought down Clinton and now he wants to bring down Trump. Whilst I want Trump gone, I suspect Comey isnt all he seems.

I just can't get over the comments from Trump supporters saying that Comey's testimony completely vindicates Trump. What planet are they living on?
