jeffnz: its the behaviour of some that I find interesting, the wolf pack term was nicer that what I was thinking of putting.

I think you are right there has been some good points of view from both sides of the argument and think we reached an impasse when it finished last time, nothing really new is being brought to the table so what are people hoping to achieve or is it just some tribal ritual.

jeffnz: well that just about sums up Alasta's post. Anyone else feeling the need to vent or make a point about nothing much.

jeffnz: this is just getting silly now, as I said earlier there is nothing new being added to this thread

Interesting comment to make!

This thread was dead and buried it was resurrected for some reason

jeffnz: Cool we can get the thread closed then

It appears you are the only one with a major issue with this thread. Perhaps just stop reading it if it is so pointless. :)

Nah, he's not the only one. I find a few of the statements you and others have made - for example, the the one jeffnz picked up - quite narrow minded and... well, honestly... smug. So the law has changed? So you "won"? That doesn't invalidate the opinions of people who don't hold the same opinion as you. There's no excuse for rubbing it in and lauding it over people as you appear to be doing. Bad form.

At the end of the day, there is no "won" and "lost".

Ultimately society will decide what is morally right and acceptable and no amount of legislation will change this.

Look at marijuana - legally not good society generally accepts/turns a blind eye.

Whatever the law says, I (and many others) still deem marriage between one man and one woman - and I still deem this to be the ideal family unit that society should aspire to.

As I have noticed many times before, this country seems to have a massive pro-gay agenda going on and I feel that the majority of society has been railroaded into this decision without full and robust debate.

The good part about this is that if another party is established tomorrow (Klipspringers New Statesmen of Haltenprice and Howden has a good ring to it LOL) with repeal of SSM as one of its principle tenents then the public can vote on this - nothing is set in stone!

Ahh, the good old "gay agenda" argument. Of course, I could say that Christianity (or <religion here>) has had an active and "out" (hah) agenda as well, it just so happens to be the opposite of the "gay agenda" which is why they make such a fuss, because we're opposing you.

Dunno about pro-gay, any more than I'm pro-straight (wooooooh I like poontang! *high five*)
More pro-equality. I just don't get why my gay mates didn't have the same right that myself and my partner do.

Well, I guess this will settle the arguments raised about marriage being 'defined' as between man and woman. :)

What does that leave them with then?

"It's not natural."

"My sky-daddy doesn't approve."

"It's a slippery slope to polygamy/beastiality/eating children."

Firstly I'm not religious - don't go to church, never have never will but for those who want to - fair enough.

Wouldnt recognised civil unions give gays legal equality?

The rest is semantics.

I don't necessarily think its a slippery slope to polygamy - but all of the arguments used to support gay marriage can be used to support polygamy also so logically given that the gay marriage argument "won" doesn't this mean that the argument for polygamy will also "win" - given its the same argument ?

One year today since it was legalised. And the world is no different than before.

I don't think opinions have changed either, actually not sure why this would even be brought up given the divisiveness it caused last time

Anyone opposed to it would argue that the damage was done when it was legalised per se, and that legalising or not legalising homosexual marriage is a debate akin to shutting the stable door long after the horse has bolted....

There is no evidence that it has had any benefit either.

In my view the biggest mistake was that when civil unions were introduced the concept was set up to compliment marriage, whereas it should have replaced marriage.

But look at the weather at the moment...

Rain, storms, the end is nigh... Its a sign a sign.

Never used to have such storms before the law passed.

;-)
