For eight months, there were no adults working in the House Republican day-care center.

Day after day, the toddlers of the far right threw tantrum after tantrum.

But instead of giving the brats in his caucus a timeout, House Speaker Kevin McCarthy tried to quiet them with lollipops, ice cream and sugary drinks.

Finally on Saturday, with just 12 hours to go before the federal government would shut down, McCarthy declared himself a grown-up.

“We’re going to be adults in the room, and we’re going to keep government open while we solve this problem,” he told reporters as he rushed to the floor in a last-ditch attempt to fund the government at current levels for another 45 days.

And if Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-Fla.) and the other children try to evict him from the speakership with their threatened motion to vacate the chair?

“You know what? If somebody wants to remove [me] because I want to be the adult in the room, go ahead and try,” McCarthy dared them. “But I think this country’s too important.”

Who is this man and what has he done with Kevin McCarthy? ...

Michael David Fox of New Mexico doesn't seem like a very nice person. Look at this transcript of a voicemail he left for a Texas congresswoman, identified as "V1" in the criminal complaint.

"Hey [V1], you're a man. It's official. You're literally a tranny and a pedophile, and I'm going to put a bullet in your f*cking face. ..."

Mr. Fox, a faithful member of a QAnon cult, [the Q2 Truth Movement] admitted to the FBI that he'd made the call.

[Cult members] believe that all over the world there are transgender individuals running governments, kingdoms, and corporations.

Fox explained that he had run V1's skull features through forensic analysis and determined that VI was born male and is now transgender.

Fox discussed his military service with the United States Air Force, Q the Plan to Save the World, and how God communicates using numbers.

Fox continued to reiterate several different types of conspiracy theories indicating extreme far-right ideologies as his explanation for why he conducted the phone call to threaten V1.

How do people get this crazy? How did transgender people get caught up in this? Why do idiots jump on this kind of crap? Why aren't there conspiracy theories about Trump harvesting the hair of children to work into his weave? (No, I don't know this to be true - just trying it out to see if it catches fire).

Representative Matt Gaetz introduced a resolution Monday evening to remove Speaker Kevin McCarthy from his leadership position, triggering an expected intraparty clash and setting up a showdown for the House to decide whether to depose McCarthy within 48 hours.

The effort to dismiss McCarthy has alarmed many House Republicans, setting up an internal civil war between his allies and those who have pressured him repeatedly with a variety of, at times unrealistic, demands. A serious effort to remove the speaker is unprecedented and threatens to throw the House into chaos if successful.

Gaetz (Republican Florida) and a handful of hard-right Republicans had repeatedly threatened to go after McCarthy’s speakership if he relied on Democratic votes to pass any spending legislation, which happened Saturday after McCarthy (R-Calif.) could not secure the passage of various proposals to fund the government with only Republican votes.

McCarthy seemed to need the cray votes to get in originally. This may be his opportunity to dump the crays for saner reliable support in return. Gaetz might be in it to get some concessions for backing down anyway. The consequences for normal functioning as a result of this falling out seem minimal. These fights used to be subtle..

The House on Tuesday voted to oust Kevin McCarthy from the speakership, a move without precedent in modern history that left the chamber without a leader and plunged it into chaos.

Democrats joined with a small group of hard-liners in Mr. McCarthy’s own party to strip the California Republican of the speaker’s gavel in a 216 to 210 vote.

It was the culmination of a bitter power struggle between Mr. McCarthy and members of a far-right faction who tried to block his ascent to the speakership in January and have tormented him ever since, trying to stymie his efforts to keep the government funded and the nation from defaulting on its debt.

The interim speaker, Patrick McHenry, recessed the House so both parties can find a path forward. The House floor will be paralyzed until a new speaker is elected.

Maybe someone was right about 'Deplorables.'

So nothing gets done in Government, you won the prize of Power and just tossed it out of the cot.
Cos you had so many anti-ideas, but no practical ideas on how to move forward.
All or nothing usually leads to nothing.

There are things that there is bipartisan support for if a speaker would put those bills forward, but its unacceptable.

We are also going to get a bit of this ourselves with anti's getting places in councils and maybe Government here.
Already issues of disfunction in some councils as the normal daily business of council gets derailed.

There is some time to go before the next Military pay round.
That deadline will see them along with Government workers contacting their rep and appearing in media asking when they get paid.

It causes real hardship as business in America is not up for 'pay when you can later'.
Extra costs to take loans for those that can, or depleting savings needed to fund education etc.

Those actually defending the flag will be asking their congress rep what are you doing?
Republicans love to wrap themselves in the flag as uber nationalists and patriots.

That might be a hard question from those serving they are causing suffering.

I just (regrettably) witnessed (another) cheap shot by Luxon making a Covid 'joke' against Chris Hipkins. It disgusts me that this classless SOB may become the next Prime Minister. He dirties everything he comes near.

I read that a number of Democrats were going to support him initially, but then changed their minds due to the way he handed the January 6 riot, as well as opening a pointless impeachment inquiry against Biden.

Can't say I blame them, while you could argue My Kevin better than some people in the American political system, he's hardly done a good job in the role.

I also read (I think on CNN) that he may try for the speakership again - but would he win again after it took 15 tries last time?
