I think the whole point is that Key is arguing the GCSB can only get metadata under a LI Warrant. That requires at least a shred of evidence to indicate that the individual is up to no good.
What I think Greenwald is saying is that isn't true and there is indiscriminate/wholesale gathering of metadata by the GCSB.

Let me state again.

The Internet is not secure.

Any one can gather the data and metadata.

Both Internet cables are already monitored by Five Eyes nations and any intel gained could be handed to the GCSB if the monitoring nation (US) deemed it appropriate.

Can't wait till the day dotcom boards the plane to extradite him to the U.S.

NZ will be just a little more peaceful and dotcom will be nothing more than a footnote in NZ's history.

he's innocent according to him.  So he could jump on a plane to the US right now today and go and clear his name, would have saved him the $4.5M spent on his pet NZ political party

common, they spy on Chancellor Merkel, they spy on Putin, they spy on Kim Jong Un.

so what if they spied on everyone else in the world?

in fact someone hacked into J Law too, by the way.

they point is that now everyone knows their tech is not secure. it's just not.

Unless you are encrypting your Internet traffic then any one can read it.  There is nothing secure about the entire Internet Stack, from layer one right up to layer eight.

HTTPS to popular sites can also be decrypted if they have the master keys and we know the NSA has leant on US companies for keys in the past.

Am I missing something or wasn't the big presentation supposed to be producing hard evidence???

Where are the documents, where was the email leaked earlier.

If I was John Key I would be pissing myself laughing about now, what a complete waste of time this turned out to be.

Those who would give up essential Liberty, to purchase a little temporary Safety, deserve neither Liberty nor Safety.
