It's just a blame China article to excuse the ineptness of most countries to respond appropriately.

Taiwan started screening all passengers from Wuhan end of December, and sent a mission to Wuhan to investigate first hand what was going on. National members of parliament in January 2020 were urging the Govt to do more to tighten our porous borders pretty much all in vain. Maybe having a former spy trainer for the CCP in your ranks does help. Whereas the highly vaunted 5 eyes completely failed.

I have a strong dislike of Simon Bridges, both for his politics and some of his actions, but I was about to give credit where due and compliment him on being a loyal opposition leader in this time of crisis and quietly doing his job without the usual political BS. But then I just read about him commuting in his car between Tauranga and Wellington every week and trying to justify it.

It is not about your exposure, opposition leader. It is about you having an accident on the way and exposing those who have to come and help you. Or about a breakdown with the same consequence. It is about the optics of someone in a position of great responsibility who should be setting an example. Just ask David Clark. It is about not telling ordinary people they can't do something, then doing it yourself. My god, man, didn't you learn anything from the Clark example? Are you so filled with a sense of superior entitlement that you just assume you are an exception to the rules that others have to follow? Big fail!

He's an essential worker I would think. Like the Deputy PM who continues to work despite being over the age of 70.

The car accidents I've seen reported are people driving into trees, or driving into cyclists.

I thought he was doing essential business. He did not move to Tauranga during the lockdown, he's always lived in Tauranga.

The govt pushing non essential legislation during shutdown however...

Jacinda Ardern touched down in Rotorua on an Air Force Beechcraft King Air on Thursday morning, justifying the form of transportation because "regional New Zealand timetabling doesn't always suit scheduling".

Except, the timetabling meant the Prime Minister's plane landed at almost the same time as the Air New Zealand flight she was originally booked on.

In her defence, flying is safer than driving, even if the roads are deserted.

The only argument that even slightly justifies the commute (and this is a stretch) is that internet at his home was not good.

But if that was the case he is an essential worker so could have traveled the short distance to his electorate office (which should already have had UFB) and worked from there. It's not like UFB hasn't been available since Sept 2011....

In practice this depends how it is configured, deployed and used. Presumably there's a parliamentary IT services or similar service responsible for those things.

They know about the encryption problem and are switching to other methods when discussing sensitive issues.

There are reports of schools using Zoom being hacked with stolen passwords etc.
