Dylan has been writing about this in other sites - Stuff is a bit late to the party but brings more information too. Original report here Sovereign Sheriffs vs. the New World Order - by Dylan Reeve (substack.com)

From the Stuff article

or more than five hours, the group discussed the supposed crimes that had been committed. Among those on the Zoom call were John Ansell, the former National party ad-man, and Jamie Mansfield – who uses the pseudonym Jae Ratana – who was involved in setting up the occupation at Parliament.

It was a confusing swirl of grievances; abuses committed in state care, the family court, Covid-19 vaccination. At one point, the jury discussed whether prime minister Jacinda Ardern has been replaced with a body double.

Specific grievances aside, the meeting was driven by a thirst for vengeance.

“We’re at the point where we’re voting on the death penalty in your country,” Crack said. “For child abuse, genocide, classicide, murder – which is Covid.”

One by one, the jury voted to adopt the death penalty for these crimes.

Days later, one of the meeting’s participants, Kerre Reddy - a horse whisperer from Eketahuna, who calls herself the chief sheriff of New Zealand - posted an eviction notice on a Facebook group she administers.

It warned “any politicians or Ashley Bloomfield, Michael Baker Governor general (sic)” that they had three hours to leave the country. In a comment, she clarified this meant they were liable to be arrested (The post has since been removed from the Facebook group, which has more than 11,000 members. Reddy did not respond to a request for comment.)

One of her “sheriffs”, Wellington man Rob Thomas, shared the eviction notice on Telegram with a message: “Are you ready to stand and arrest and remove these criminals?”

All this because they are against vaccine? Nah. This people are simply deranged and are the latest extremists. They have no respect for law and live in a world of fantasy.

At best they need mental health help, at worst they need to be in prison as soon as they move to kidnap anyone in their list (and yes, it's not "citizen's arrest" it's "kidnap").

@freitasm: It occurs to me to wonder if Geekzone or you personally have been subjected to threats or attacks as a result of the site's liberal attitude and the clean-out of alt-right sympathisers.

There is one case of someone who was persistently contacting us via email. As per our policy we do not reply to requests by people who are banned.

A few disgruntled post in places like Reddit to complain of being banned. If you see someone complaining about being banned, then it's likely they are complaining about their "freedumbs" being infringed. From what I see on Reddit, most people complain with "I didn't do anything wrong, freitasm is a dictator." - they are usually blind to their stupidity.

Then there's this stupid action.

Just yesterday we have banned someone for posting racist comments. The person made a point of registering again from another address to ask "why did you ban [username] without warning? Pretty one sided..."

The FUG is clear. Banning can happen at any moment and usually without warning. If you are a racist idiot and post racist stupidity then you will be banned. There's no need for any of us to negotiate.

The alt-anything movement is a problem when these people can live the duality of being convinced they're being oppressed as a vocal minority but speak for an unspoken majority.

The Sov Cit movement is also making major inroads into Maori communities where distrust of traditional legal systems is low, often for extremely valid reasons. We're at a unique point in history where these people are prepared to put their actual disagreements aside to just unite behind the idea that they are getting hard done by somehow and the only valid response is hanging journalists and MPs.

It's quite deluded. People convincing themselves about this have no idea about power and authority.

I was quite amused to read about a dreamer trying this in court recently only to have his claims ignored by the judge and then getting manhandled into the dock - the power of the state in action.

There is nothing amusing about these people at all. The spread of their ideas represents a real threat to the rule of law and social order. As the Spinoff article above points out, I think this trend represents a genuine danger that needs to be taken seriously.

I think you meant either "where trust of traditional legal systems is low" or ""where distrust of traditional legal systems is high".

Yes, but that's something we all, but especially politicians, need to be aware of. 'The state' only has authority and power over us when enough of us agree that it does. The moment a large proportion of people disagree with this notion, the whole system breaks down and you have an uprising on your hands.

The police can cope with 300 hundred protestors camping at parliament but not 300,000.

That's why it's so important that politicians not only act for 'the greater good' but for everybody to think they do as well.

How is NZ doing in this regard? The view on GZ is the sovereign citizens are lunatic fringe but elsewhere are they getting traction? Real traction and not just a few 'hell yeahs' ?

The Sov Cits aren't new. The ability to surround themselves with people who are deranged in a slightly different way across multiple causes and obsessions to constantly reinforce each other in their own bubble is.

The US has in recent years fingered them as a cause for national security concern. Looks like we are having our moment as well.

Does anyone think the vaccine mandates may cost Labour the next election? I see a few p'd off people online raging about losing their jobs due to choosing not to get vaccinated (idiots), saying they'll never vote for Labour ever again...or are they just a very noisy minority, whose vote probably won't make much difference?

Or will they be ancient history by Election Day 2023?

It will be irrelevant. The next election will be fought on the economy. If that doesn’t improve Labour will lose.
