Five secretaries of state plan to send an open letter to billionaire Elon Musk on Monday, urging him to “immediately implement changes” to X’s AI chatbot Grok, after it shared with millions of users false information suggesting that Kamala Harris was not eligible to appear on the 2024 presidential ballot.

The letter, spearheaded by Minnesota Secretary of State Steve Simon and signed by his counterparts Al Schmidt of Pennsylvania, Steve Hobbs of Washington, Jocelyn Benson of Michigan and Maggie Toulouse Oliver of New Mexico, urges Musk to “immediately implement changes to X’s AI search assistant, Grok, to ensure voters have accurate information in this critical election year.”

Within hours of President Biden’s announcement that he was suspending his presidential campaign on July 21, “false information on ballot deadlines produced by Grok was shared on multiple social media platforms,” the secretaries wrote.

The secretaries cited a post from Grok that circulated after Biden stepped out of the race: “The ballot deadline has passed for several states for the 2024 election,” the post read, naming nine states: Alabama, Indiana, Michigan, Minnesota, New Mexico, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Texas and Washington.

It pisses me off that Musk has sullied the excellent science fiction novel of Robert Heinlein by hijacking that name. Also that our group didn't copyright it when we used it for our little magazine in 1960s San Francisco.

I just wish he would piss off back to his own country instead of trying to interfere with elections via many online methods including the registration portal that just collects user infomation in battleground states but does not register them, instead they will get spammed with Trump ads and Trump door knocking. Just messed uo.

Who the flap does this guy think he is?

He was raised in apartheid and only left Sout afr to draft dodge.

Thiis sums up everything 3 mins, crazy Trump unfit to serve, they should lean into that hard and rattle him some more. But how do you change morons like the guy at the end saying he votes Trump for policy and substance and how it effects his wallet, yeh you clearly have analysed what world economic experts have said if Trump gets in office to inflation. Damn I wish there was a way to get a Dem on speaker right now so they could push through that bi-partisan border bill Trump squashed.

Trump's campaign is so badly in free fall that if he doesnt add substance, appeal and quit the personal attacks quick,

We've seen this movie before. Trump is out there trolling and doing what Trump does best. Responding to the trolling just gives him more oxygen to burn. The Harris campaign has fallen for that early a couple of times. The media as evidenced by the number of pages recently pointing out inconsistencies really in excess of what Trump is generating = Trump oxygen. Some of that has to be done. Some of it is just excessive. Harris' campaign probably already has Trump beat on strategy. Don't blow it.

I actually think the Harris campaign has just kept on moving on, all Harris said is its his usual divisiveness and america deserves better.

I think Harris is being kept in a cocoon of keep the eyes on the prize. She knows ignoring him or teasing him is just making him more unhinged.

The media on the other hand have a had a field day. lol. But I think by today they will have a new Veep Veep to discuss. Which is going to make Trump and Musk lash out more, but the only people buying it are the MagaTs.

I can see her putting on a 7-10 point spread by the end of the next two weeks, Veep, DNC, Campaign. September she will prosecute Trump on abc and I think he will at minimum end up with an ankle bracelet and harsh probation which will tax him.

EDIT: The Republicans against Trump, Republicans anybody but Trump and the Republicans for Harris are growing exponentially. Musk can artificially make an anti Harris comment daily. But at same time guys like Mark Hamill and all the Republicans who are putting country over party are drowning out Musk, who is only reaching magat-nazis. I think she will get that 15% Nikki Haley protest votes and a lot more. Give it 6 weeks. The more Trump appeals his sentecing and his gag order being declined, the more I think his worst nigtmare is on his mind, not going to prison as he would be safe, but just being finally pinged for a felony and the sham involved. Loser, his worst nightmare.

a pretty good easy to digest synopsis by abc of where Harris is now with the swing states. Given where she started, if this momentum continues, which it should despite the attempts of Trump, Vance, Musk and others, she will have won this race by late September, with both the Rust belt but also the Sunshine belt states.

Oh boy, as I suggested, a new poll of 12000 RV shows Haris up by +4 now in the general, on top another smaller poll of LikelyVoters with +3.

He line since she has joined the race has rapidly intersected Trumps and is pulling away now.

President: general election : 2024 Polls | FiveThirtyEight

She is very nearly at the +2 which is widely considered to be the minimum for an outright lead, she is at +1.9

National : President: general election : 2024 Polls | FiveThirtyEight

& more favourability polls making those two lines come abruptly toward each other, unfavorable only +5.9 now. Trump is still at +8.5 unfavorable.

Kamala Harris : Favorability Polls | FiveThirtyEight

Not significant yet but preferred party has increased for Democrats to 45.7 vs Repub 45. This is important for the House and Senate, if it takes off like its started too, it could be the end of the beginning.

Typical synopsis from Fox aussie, trying to sell this as a positive with Trump having plenty left to beat her.

But its so obvious somebody is funding aussie media to try and tip perceptions. Clearly Murdoch but I would think there must be somebody funding it, he is Red but doesnt normally fund TV clips on YT every 10 mins mostly on the US pres election.

Im a bit worried about the US shares falling in anticipation of a Recession which couldn't come at a worse time for Demcocrats. Is it possible a Repub Billionaire is flooding the stock exchange to cause panic?

Most seem to be suggesting its global but effected by a dip in US record highs and less jobs than the record high. Most also seem to state its also compounded by the FedBank not cutting interest rates fast enough, they have said Sept but many saying it should have been done in line with lowered inflation.

That's a bit conspiracy theorish (is that a word?) isn't it? More likely worries over overpriced tech stocks (NVidia delaying new AI chip) and fears of a major middle east war.

No, just a question :-). Not suggesting that occured, just curious if that could happen. Not, this is possibly what happened.

See my other points re Jobs and Stock highs falling plus the FedB slow to respond to cutting intrerest rates, the likely cause.

Seems to be multi faceted, but interestig the comments re spending on AI with no results etc. The US was so red hot my gut feeling is, it had to slow or dip. I feel that the media are blowing the big scare rather than the reality etc.

International Stock indexes have been hitting al time highs for the last 6 months as markets convinced themselves that the US had engineered the perfect Goldilocks soft landing, the Unemployment data pointed out that things might not be as rosy as they are expected,

And as employment data is a lagging indicator it implies that the fed may have kept rates to tight for too long,

BTH having a 5-10% correction on the Dow/Nasdaq is not a bad thing after such a strong run up... there is an awful lot of froth out there

I agree completely with what you have said as Ive been riding the rocket ship. Im out so not feeling it much now.

Im just concerned, Trump will finally have a factual Rhetoric point. However if it softens by next week it will on the flip side give Kamala a strong talking point, economic success.

However, people are hurting out there. Can the US Govt micro manage internal impacts on CPI like, can Biden influence the Fed to get prices down? I think they need to start addressing the problem now, not just talking about what they will do.

Interesting she is 54% with low income workers. I think if this softens, its not going to impact the citizens, but influencing price/interest reductions now, cuts off any possible Rhetoric by Trump like this vid points out.

TeaLeaf: ...can Biden influence the Fed to get prices down?

The president has never had much influence over the The Federal Reserve, the central bank of the US.

Here's a classic Fed action: increased its total assets from $4.17 trillion in 2020 to $8.33 trillion in 2021, in an effort to stabilize the economy since the COVID-19 pandemic.

Unrelated since the "Black Monday" 1987 stock market crash, there have been three US crashes: Dotcom Bubble Crash (2001), Subprime Financial Crisis (2008), COVID-19 Crash (2020).

The presidents really didn't see any of these coming, and there really not much he could have done even if he had a perfect crystal ball warning him.
